5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Best case I have owned so far, quality pricing ratio is excellent.

Cons: Case nut screws can be hard to remove and re-install. Only 3 fans included, it could use a 4th fan considering the size of the case.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Purchase

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Built in fans are super quiet, keeps everything cool, easy case to build in, great first case

Cons: The side panel thumb screws don't line up perfectly on my case so it is a little hard to unscrew them by hand

5 out of 5 eggsHeavy

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: More room than you would actually believe. I consider this a pro, some may consider this a con, but the case is very heavy. I like this because there is no chance of it getting knocked over by anything (such as little kids). If you are a little person you might consider a lighter case, after you add in several hard drives, power supply etc. you will likely be at 45 - 50 lbs easy.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The only other note I will make is, you likely will need long sata cables. I had to change my short ones because of where the hook ups were at on my mother board and just because the case was so large.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: In 25 years of building computers, this is hands-down the best tower-style computer case I have ever used. Tons of space, tons of ventilation options, built like a bank vault.

Cons: Absolutely none if you are aware that it is BIG and HEAVY.

Other Thoughts: Worth every penny!

5 out of 5 eggsBig and silent

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: This case was a blast to work with. I haven't built a gaming/work rig in almost 10 years and my things have changed as far as cable management goes. This case has an awesome section in the back to route as many cables as you want without your case looking like a mess.

Another huge plus is how silent this case is. I took the top panels out to install a Corsair 100i water cooler for my CPU and I can only hear anything coming from my case when I crank my fans ALL the way up.

This case looks really professional to me. No frills. Solid.

Cons: None really. There is a very tiny chip in the back where the paint was knocked off but that's not the case's fault.

4 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Incredibly roomy, no problem at all fitting the 12 inch r9 290 i purchased, Ample Drive bays + Removable Bays....it is very pretty....So many ports to run wires from PSU making it very easy to hide wires...3 Additional 120-140MM Fan slots (screw holes fit a variety of sizes)

Cons: DOA! returning

VERY HEAVY...its very heavy when its empty and even more so when its full built.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: This case has a lot of room available. The included fans are quite decent as well. The included fans, which run off of the included front-panel controller work well. I have only added a single quiet fan to vent out the top of the case (along with a Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler, which I am running with both fans (the second fan if shifted up a bit and I am running low profile RAM)). The side panels do a great job of quieting any internal noise. Although, once after opening and moving the case to add an extra HDD I heard a constant rattling sound. I thought it was a side panel, but after ten minutes of moving panels and sticking my head inside the case I realized it was just the bottom fan filter insert that had shifted a few millimetres. All in all, I am completely happy with this case.

Cons: I seem to be very sensitive to low-frequency sounds. I have this case sitting a few feet beside me (to my right) on the floor, and from where I sit it's very quiet. But when I walk beside my desk (on the right side of the case) I hear a low pulsing, rumbling sound that sounds like it's coming from the fans. When I heard this I was annoyed, but from where I sit compared to the case, I don't really hear anything obvious from the fans.

5 out of 5 eggsOverall excellent case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Heavy duty case, the fans have rubber grommet to keep them from having a rattle, the case overall is very quiet.
The case looks just as good in person as it does in the picture.
Cable management is very easy with this case.

Cons: The case is very heavy so beware
The power light is very bright (lights up the entire corner of my living room)
My only real issue that I have with this case as of today (about 4 months since purchase) is that I noticed on the side panel on the upper corner the paint is peeling, and if I touch it it falls off.

3 out of 5 eggsworks with SSI EEB

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Looks nice in my opinion, good design.

Cons: Unofficially support SSI EEB if you are ok with leaving few holes unscrewed. I don't see a reason why they cannot add few more holes to support wider range of boards like SSI EEB officially.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat case, broken front panel

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-TI Titanium Grey Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Excellent, well designed case. The rubber cable guides are particularly classy, there is plenty of room for giant motherboards, coolers or power supplies, and the plentiful array of hard drive bays come with a full set of removable trays. The case chassis itself is heavy, with high build quality, and virtually every surface is covered with soundproofing material.

My only complaint with respect to the case design is that the upper thumbscrew for the removable 3.5" drive bay is partially blocked by the 5.25" drive bay, making it difficult to remove (especially since all of the case thumbscrews were *extremely* tight from the factory).

Were it not for the problems with the removable front panel, this would have been a five-star review (see below).

Cons: The removable front panel (containing the front USB and audio ports and case doors) came heavily damaged. Most of the posts, which connect the panel to the case chassis, were snapped off of the panel. The remaining posts hold the panel on, but it's extremely loose due to all the broken posts.

One of the latches of the inner front panel door covering the front fans was also broken, so the fan door does not open or close properly.

Many of the ventilation slots along either side of the front panel are even cracked or broken as well.

Based on the original product packaging and nature of the damage, it's clear that either the front panel was compromised during installation and shipped anyway, or that the front panel was already compromised and installed anyway.

This is a very nice case, but the front panel attachment posts are fragile and under-designed. My problems with the damaged removable front panel make for an extremely disappointing addendum to what would have been an otherwise perfect build.

I don't feel that it's worth completely deconstructing my build in order to return the entire case, but individual front panels are apparently not available. I wish I could recommend this otherwise fantastic case, but I worry that quality control issues such as this would come back to haunt other purchasers.
