5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Upgraded from the old Antec 300 to this. Blown away. Temperatures are lower while being whisper quiet (Antec 300 used 4x 120mm and 1x 140mm, Midi R2 using 4x 140mm with three on 7V). This isn't even designed as a quiet case, but it is.

All the stuff people expect from cases nowadays were completely new to me. Removable drive bays are way more awesome than I imagined, gives a lot of extra room. Frontal dust filter can be popped off by pressing it at an angle, no need to open case. Cable management cutouts in all the right places, with the front panel connectors already routed down the back out-of-box.

Looks great too. I'm not a fan of those extremely fancy looking cases, so this was ideal.

Cons: Floor fan grille is a bit flimsy. It pops outward or inward if you press in either direction. Manual contains very little information; could be an issue for first time builders.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat case

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: This case is great! I bought this about a year ago and have had no major issues.

I got this case for around $60 USD on sale. Would I have bought it if it was at the retail price of $109.99? Probably not. Not because it's not worth the asking price, but I just feel you shouldn't be spending all the much on a chassis.

Cons: I got the windowed side panel version and have had few issues with micro-scratches.

If you get the windowed version, while cleaning try to stay away from paper towels and stick to microfiber cloths.

5 out of 5 eggsBlown Away - Brilliant Design

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I would like to begin with a few things that might seem trivial but I think show the level of thought and attention that went into designing this case (i.e. Bon Jovi's Brown M&Ms - if you don't know the reference Google it.)

The case comes with a little box for the parts. Each set of screws has it's own right sized little bag, and all of the screws are high quality and painted black to match the case. There are even a whole bunch of extra black thumb screws which are quite rare to get extras of. But here's the thing that got me - the little box for the parts is a weird size, not your usual little square brown cardboard box. Then it dawned on me - the box is the same size as a hard drive and slides neatly into an unused bay, it's even black to match the case. No more hunting for the case parts - they're right there neatly and unobtrusively stored an a bay - brilliant!

Other wonderful things:

The case is amazingly roomy for its size, it's almost like an optical illusion. I'm coming from a Storm Scout and when I put the two side by side and you'd think they are about the same size, but open them up and there's no comparison. I always struggled with the Scout, especially around the edges of the motherboard where the SATA and power cables go and also behind the motherboard, whereas the Midi is perfect with large grommet holes to run cables and with room above and below a standard ATX board to run cables without having to remount the MB. I was seriously considering going full size so I'd never have to fuss with tightness, but this case has all the room in the world in a mid sized design - so happy!

I hate dust and the dust cover system on this case makes me want to weep with joy - top/front/psu filters, all removable. The front fan is mounted in the middle of the case which is a much better position dust-wise than a bottom mounted fan.

The feet look like they belong on a high end stereo receiver - very, very classy.

Oh, and by the way, the case is gorgeous. The look is very refined, mature, and runs a beautiful balance between elegance and extreme seriousity.

My build went super smooth and I really enjoyed it - all the little things were so well thought out. If you appreciate intelligent engineering, this case will give you that warm happy feeling of owning a machine that borders on art.

10 Stars!

Cons: Just a couple of suggestions for the next version of this great box:

I would love it if I could swap the locations of the bays and just have the five bay box mounted at the bottom - this would add a lot of flexibility and allow the middle space to be left empty for better air flow.

Also, more tie down positions behind the motherboard would be nice - especially above/below and to the right of the heat sink cutout.

Lastly, it would be better if the PSU filter slid out to the side, most cases are positioned such that having the room to remove the filter backward is awkward.

The above are totally just my personal preferences and should no way deter you from buying this case and paying extra to have it over-nighted to you so you won't have to wait another day for the joy this case brings.

Other Thoughts: You'd have a fight on your hands it you tried to take this case from me.

5 out of 5 eggsperfect and very open

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: it has dust filters on every fan opening so no dist gets inside. i removed the fan on the top and put in my h100i and moved that fan to the front and now all the fans are full and the airflow is amazing it even has a fan controller for the 3 case fans it comes with so when your not doing anything the fans can be ran at 5v and when your gaming you can put it up to 12v and with productivity i can run it at 7v. with the included fans when i change it from 5v to 12v i dont even hear a difference but i can see the difference when i look at the fans.

building in this case was very easy with multiple rubber gromets to hide the cables in and with the hdd bays i have it nearly filled up and i was still able to manage the cables to fit nicely. came with alot of cable ties. the thumb screws were awesome plus it came with extras.

Cons: scratches somewhat easy but not that noticeable. the front fan filter can be a bit difficult to open because it has 2 latches but it could also be considered a plus because it wont just come open randomly. i wish it had a few more tie down spots in the back for better cable management.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for your buck!

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: 1) cost/features ratio
2) appearance (personal taste)
3) performance

Cons: Nothing worth mentioning

Other Thoughts: If you are building a system similar to mine:
1) you plan on going for a strong OC
2) you don't want a case that weighs down your desk and screams "Gamer"
3) you are going to install a massive aftermarket heatsink
4) you plan on using 4 or less hard drives (just remove the top hard drive cage)

Then I can't think of a better case for you!
Here's what I have going:
AMD FX-6300 @ 4.5GHZ, Noctua NH-D14 heatsink, R7870 GPU, 1 SSD (OS), 2 HDD's (RAID 0 for storage)

You can install a 120mm side intake fan under the heatsink (if you use cable ties)

5 out of 5 eggsWorth Every Penny

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: The Arc Midi R2 is definitely worth the $90 USD that I spent, especially since this seems to be the only case on the market that costs less for the windowed version. Can you believe that? It’s almost like metal is actually more expensive than plastic. Go figure. The case is sturdy, well built (everything is metal except the front cover and filters), every piece is painted, and the Scandinavian design is perfect for my preferences. It’s elegant in its simplicity. All fan locations are filtered, except for the rear, which should always be an exhaust. These filters are all removable, safe to clean, and only take a few hours to dry. The case comes with 3 Silent Series fans pre-installed. The fans are incredible, even at 100% fan speed, they are barely noticeable by themselves, let alone with the CPU cooling fan. This is bundled together with a fan controller rated at 3 different voltage settings, which is slightly redundant since the fans are almost silent, and no off position. Don’t take my word for it, but this case probably started the customizable HDD cage fad. Who needs 8 hard drives? Come to think of it, who needs 4 optical drives? Most case manufacturers think that everyone does. Not Fractal. With 2 ODD bays and your choice of 3, 5, or 8 HDD bays, this case is designed with versatility in mind. There is also an extra, vertical expansion slot for accessories. I’ve chosen to fill this with an NZXT white LED strip. Since this version comes with a large window as you can see, this LED strip, while showcasing my choice of hardware, also shows everyone my cable management. This case comes with grommets surrounding the motherboard. Each cable can make the shortest trip possible to its destination, meaning a very sleek look that really brings the case together.

Cons: On the other side, I find that the tint is too strong, however... this is an opinion, and a rather nit-picky one at that. The light strip looks better with a tinted window along with my LED CPU fan, however, without any interior light, the tinted window is a little self defeating. The window is also easily scratched, mine coming with multiple minor scratches upon arrival. Hardly noticeable without looking for them. I have a fairly high performance CPU fan, and the case does little to reduce the noise level, but that’s what the Define R4 is for.

Other Thoughts: The ultimate choice for me was between the Define R4, and the Arc Midi R2. With only a $10 price difference at the time of purchase, the Midi pulled ahead slightly. Now, the real choice between the 2 was silence, and heat, vs airflow and cooling. Obviously I thought airflow was more important, as I’m not writing a review for the Define. The computer sits immediately to my right, less than a foot away, and the noise isn't noticeable, unless I’m gaming or benchmarking. Even with my open headphones, I can’t notice a thing. All things considered, I don’t think I could have made a better choice. No other case fit my budget, and no case offered my aesthetic preference.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Looks great, build very well, let's in no dust, has good cable management, lots of storage for HDD and SSDs, semi modular HDD cage for better airflow/looks, good quality included (quiet) fans (3), water-cooling flexibility, great airflow, built in fan controller, top mounted I/O ports, easy to build in, window to see your sexy hardware, and you basically never have to clean your components again.

Cons: The side panels are a traditional style (they have tabs that need to be lined up and slid into place) where as something like Corsairs design where they act like doors would have been MUCH more preferred, but that's only a bother when you have to open it (which isn't often at all).

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I used this case for a mid-grade build and was pleased with the results. The case is very large and had plenty of room for larger components like the Noctua NH-U14S and the Gigabyte Windforce Cooler.

The cable routing was very nice as well. There was plenty of room to route all the cables behind the MB. Everything cleaned up for a very tidy build.

The cooling of the case is very nice as well. Not only do you have plenty fan mounting options, the case can also be configured for various liquid coolers. There are also filters in place for any fan locations that might be used as intake fans. Overall very nice cooling.

The case is also very sturdy. It does not feel "flexy" as some of the less expensive cases do. With a few exceptions, the fit and finish of the case are very nice.

The Window is a nice touch, but had the case without the window been available when I purchased mine, I probably would have saved the $10 and gotten one without a window.

Over all it is a great case that looks great as well. It was very easy to build in and I would buy it again.

Cons: There are very few cons with this case and most of them are just being picky, but they are there.

1. Screws for the side panel. It would have been nice to see a side mount panel with latches.

2. The top filter/panel of the computer has to be unscrewed to clean the filter of the top fans.

3. The fan filters show dust circles on your intake fans. I know that it is good that they are working, but it would have been easy to mount them just a hair back from the front panel mesh so they would not show the dust so easily.

4. The power switch and fan controller are adequate, but feel cheaply made and not up to the quality of the rest of the case.

That is about all that bothered me in the case. It is a very nice case.

Other Thoughts: Overall great case. You should not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 eggsGood case, but not trouble free

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I bought this case because it was black, sleek and minimalistic.

Cons: I've had this case for over 6 months now, and for the most part, it's been trouble free. But, there are some
annoyances:

1. The case uses thumbnail screws for everything. I hate thumbnail screws. I need a screwdriver to remove them because they are so tight.
And one of the thumbnail holes was stripped. It spins around and doesn't tighten. I must have gotten a bad case.

2. The outside case design is sleek and boxy, however, some of the corners are too sharp. They need to be rounded out more.

3. The USB 3.0 cable that connects to the motherboard can be very loose. This is because the USB 3.0 cable is very thick and heavy,
so it practically falls out of the connection. I had to jerry-rig a a tie-on strap to fix it into place so it doesn't move.
If this isn't fixed, your USB 3.0 connections may fail to work.

4. The foam dust filters are not replaceable. If they get damaged, you will not find any replacements. After 6 months, my foam
dust filters are slowly ripping and disintegrating because they are so thin. The 120mm fans may be slowly eating them away.
I emailed Fractal Design for a replacement, but they ignored my emails.

5. I searched the entire Fractal Design website for any replacement parts for this case, and they offer nothing at all.
If you need a new front panel, new dust filter, more thumbnail screws, etc... you will find nothing.
Fractal Design doesn't seem to be in the business of selling replacement parts.
