5 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: - Great look, great airflow. Tinted window but not too tinted, motherboard tray all black. I have 2 140mm green LED fans in the top and 2 in front (with all the drive bays removed, SSD mounted behind the motherboard), Cooler Master Nepton 140XL cooler mounted in the back. Makes the inside light up just enough to make you want to stare at your awesome build creation all day. Case and components all stay real cool.
- Ease of build: Everything came together quickly and easily. I haven't built a machine in about 14 years, and this case made it really simple. Everything fit as it should. Cable management situation is pretty good if you take the time to make it look nice. I went with a fully modular PSU and can imagine it would be more annoying with a non-modular one.
- All the screws & hardware you could possibly need
- Quality dust filters
- Three 140mm fans included (even though I swapped them out)
- Built in fan controller (even though I didn't use it)
- Smooth edges on everything
- Cool metal chrome looking feet, so many good decisions went into this design

Cons: - The side panel doesn't seem to fully lock in flush to the front panel, so there is some light bleed from the LED fans where the side panel connects to the front. Not annoying enough to dock an egg, though it's something that should be fixed in future designs I think.
- Not really built for silence, if you want a totally silent machine, you might want to look elsewhere. This thing was built for looks and airflow. Still pretty quiet though with speed controlled fans.
- Not a fan of the white PCI slot covers. I ordered a set of black ones to replace them and cure any of my OCD left with this thing.

Other Thoughts: If you want a semi-flashy/semi-professional looking machine that comes together easily and has tons of options, this is the case for you.

My build:

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic case

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Storage potential (8 x 3.5" drive trays + 2 x 5.25" bays)
Cable management
Cooling
Ease of assembly
Build quality
Fan controller
Plenty of "extras"

Cons: Included fans a little noisy

Other Thoughts: I got this case on sale in late 2013 for $85.99 CDN and haven't looked back since.

I didn't do a standard gamer build (already have my main rig in a Silverstone TJ04-E). This case was bought for a NAS (FreeNAS) build. What sold me was:
# of 3.5" hard drive bays
Cooling for the bays
Fractal Design (already had the Define Mini, and love it)
Price was a bonus, and made it a no-brainer.

While putting together the NAS system, I seriously fell in love with this case and considered using it for my main rig. It's a really easy case to build in, there's plenty of room behind the motherboard for cable management. Fractal goes above and beyond providing you with extra screws etc...

The cooling system is fantastic. Being a Noctua lover, I immediately swapped out the front fan for 2 x PF14 in the front. All 8 hard drive bays are filled, and the temps never exceed 35C on the NAS, even after heavy load.

The included fan controller is a bonus, but I just leave it on the middle setting (Low doesn't push enough air, High is too loud, Medium is JUST RIGHT!!!)

For those looking to OC and use AIO cooling, you have space for 3 x 120mm or 2 x 140mm fans at the top with an easy to use removable filter. The front of the case also includes a removable filter, as well as the bottom (covering PSU/fan mount at the bottom).

You could go totally nuts and build a beast air cooled system, or do the same with AIO liquid cooling. The looks are a little understated, but this actually works for some people. Like most Fractal cases, most of the bays/cages including the 5.25" bays are removable, so the case is flexible to fit your needs, especially if you're looking to maximize airflow.

This case is suited for a gamer/overclock system, and is underrated as a NAS/server system.

Components used:
Supermicro X9SCM-iif motherboard
Intel Xeon 1230 V2
2 x 8GB Kingston DDR3 1600Mhz ECC RAM
3 x Noctua PF14 140mm case fans
8 x Western Digital Red NAS HDD 3TB
Kingston Datatraveller 8GB USB Flash Drive

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Choice

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Everything.

Cons: Not a con but it would have been nice to have some sort of bracket behind the MB for the SSD's. If you want to remove them, you have to remove the MB. I ended up putting them in the lower drive cage just for convenience if/when I change out drives.

Other Thoughts: Upgrading my 1st build from a hand me down old Antec. I absolutely love this case. Plenty of configuration options and space. The fans are a little loud on the highest setting but I find myself only needing the low to med setting. The 3 fans also keep my CPU 8c cooler than the old case

4690K
ASRock Extreme 4
8gb Gskill 1333
XFX Radeon 6950
Samsung EVO 250gb
OCZ ARC 100 240 (steam drive)
Seagate Barracuda 1tb 7200
Corsair CX600

I highly recommend this case

5 out of 5 eggsBlown Away

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: I am blown away by this case, whether it's the simple but stylish design, build quality and most importantly FEATURES. This case really has it all, from included dust filters, three included 140mm fans, removable and adjustable drive cage, thermal and acoustic performance, cable management and so forth.
Other than listing all the great features of this case, there is possibly only one con (if you will), this is that the version with the clear side panel doesn't have a side-opening for a fan. But the great thing is that FD offers the case also in a "solid side panel" version which replaces the clear window side with a solid panel which has a fan opening. (This solid side panel can actually also be purchased extra for a ridiculous low price, €7+s/h). I don't care for a side window (my PC is at the wall) but like the option for an extra fan on the side eg. for additional GPU cooling.
I cannot find anything wrong with this case. It's really like Fractal Design knows exactly what PC builders want and implemented this, this case is ridiculously good and therefore an absolute recommendation.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: This case is very solid. The matte finish looks very nice. The fans are quiet and seem to keep the device cool. I'm not a flashy case fan so this case is perfect for me. It has all the features of case built for gaming and OC, and the elegance of a basic black case. It has a window. I don;t care to see my components, but there they are. I was torn between the R4 and the R2 and settled on the R2 because I did not want to have to deal with a case door. You can't go wrong with any Fractal, but I think I made the right choice for me.

Cons: Not really a con, but the case is larger than I pictured. I wasn't prepared for the extra space that I would need so had to move things around.

Other Thoughts: Ive only had it powered on for a few hours now, but the case is beautiful. Component install was a snap. Cable management is nice and clean.

4 out of 5 eggsFractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Solid, durable steel, ive bumped into stuff moving this thing and it keeps everything together. lots of room for building even with a regular ATX board. FANS EVERYWHERE, and you can even add more. usb3.0 on the front great for flashdrives. thumbscrews on the back. detachable covers for cd drives looks slick. Solid box. back panel for great cable managment.

Cons: Sometimes the top fan will make a raddling nose against the cover cage. cables are short (but nothing that affected me) for usb3.0 plug in. Side panel is tinted, horrible because i cant see my beautiful machine clearly :(

Other Thoughts: Great case, Could use this thing as a battering ram, I highly suggest this case. Every case has its problems but if your not getting the R4 this is the one you should get. Unless you wanna be all flashy then I wouldnt get this case.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Mid-Tower

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Compact chassis
140mm Fans
Filters
Configurable HDD cage(s)
Liquid cooling options
Smoked window
Nearly an inch behind motherboard tray for cables
Quiet fans

Cons: Would have liked this chassis to be just a little bigger. Another 1/2 inch behind mainboard tray for the power cables would have been handy- power supply cables on a hefty power supply tend to be long enough for supertowers. An additional 1/2 inch in front of power supply would have allowed moving the HDD cage away from the front panel. Fractal 850w fits just fine but there's not quite enough room to move the HDD cage to the alternate position.

Removing the side panel could have been made easier, as it is you remove two thumbscrews which do not remain attached to the panel, and slide the panel back 1/4 inch to remove it. This solution is not improved from the generic OEM method. A quick release button or even thumbscrews that remain attached to the side panel would have been an improvement. Once my build is finalized it is no big deal but the first couple weeks opening/closing the side panel is a hassle.

Other Thoughts: Pretty well-designed Mid-tower. I put a Thermaltake TD02 Liquid cooler with 38mm thick Deltas in the top without issue but couldn't fit an additional pair of fans on the bottom side of rad for push/pull because the second set of fans covered the waterblock mounting screws. Just so you all know. The offset mounting for 120mm fans on top provided room to clear Dominator RAM heatsinks, although just barely. Nice chassis.

Watch the video.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: - Lots of space to work with. Especially once you take out the middle hard drive cage. Decent space behind the mobo tray for cabling.
- Ease to clean fan filters on the top, bottom and front.
- Quiet case fans.
- Great options to install radiators. (I did an H100i on the top and moved a top fan to the front)

Cons: The cons for me are minor, I wouldn't take an egg of for them but here they are.
- Molex power connector for the front panel. I wanted to keep my system strictly SATA power but I had to add one more cable to my PSU just for that reason (I'm trying to avoid a mess of cables).
- My reset button does not work.
- My biggest issue is the lack of a removable* mount for my SSD behind the motherboard tray. If you're going to install an SSD, screw it in before you do your motherboard. A clip to attach it later on would have been nice.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Sturdy
Well-labeled standoff guides
Acceptable cable management
Spacious (I almost bought the full - glad I didn't!)
Easiest storage drive bays ever

Cons: The USB 3.0 header was BARELY long enough to reach the pins on my motherboard. I had to remove the zip tie from the opposite side of the case to get the last inch or so I needed. If it was even a single centimeter farther away it wouldn't have fit at all. My first attempt resulted in a lot of bent pins and headaches...

Had some trouble getting the optical drive in after installing a non-stock heatsink, but that's avoidable.

The grate on the front doesn't seem to be in there too well. It sticks out a little. Seems rather shoddy quality relative to the rest of the case.

Other Thoughts: Case made the build very easy; finished product looks great. Would hesitate to buy again regarding issues in cons.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

This review is from: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Upgraded from the old Antec 300 to this. Blown away. Temperatures are lower while being whisper quiet (Antec 300 used 4x 120mm and 1x 140mm, Midi R2 using 4x 140mm with three on 7V). This isn't even designed as a quiet case, but it is.

All the stuff people expect from cases nowadays were completely new to me. Removable drive bays are way more awesome than I imagined, gives a lot of extra room. Frontal dust filter can be popped off by pressing it at an angle, no need to open case. Cable management cutouts in all the right places, with the front panel connectors already routed down the back out-of-box.

Looks great too. I'm not a fan of those extremely fancy looking cases, so this was ideal.

Cons: Floor fan grille is a bit flimsy. It pops outward or inward if you press in either direction. Manual contains very little information; could be an issue for first time builders.
