5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Care

Pros: This is a great case. Super clean looking and stylish in its own way. Lots of room for pretty much anything you would need for your build and 3 fans included that keep everything very cool. Very nice hard drive trays and lots of room for cable management. 2 USB 3.0 ports on top, along with a fan controller for the 3 fans and microphone and headphone jacks. The window on the side is also nice to show off your build, although it's a little hard to see into. It's kind of tinted. Overall, I'm very satisfied with spending $110 on this case.

Cons: I can't really think of any cons.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth Every Penny

Pros: The Arc Midi R2 (FD-CA-ARC-R2-BL-W) is definitely worth the $90 USD that I spent, especially since this seems to be the only case on the market that costs less for the windowed version. Can you believe that? It’s almost like metal is actually more expensive than plastic. Go figure. The case is sturdy, well built (everything is metal except the front cover and filters), every piece is painted, and the Scandinavian design is perfect for my preferences. It’s elegant in its simplicity. All fan locations are filtered, except for the rear, which should always be an exhaust. These filters are all removable, safe to clean, and only take a few hours to dry. The case comes with 3 Silent Series fans pre-installed. The fans are incredible, even at 100% fan speed, they are barely noticeable by themselves, let alone with the CPU cooling fan. This is bundled together with a fan controller rated at 3 different voltage settings, which is slightly redundant since the fans are almost silent, and no off position. Don’t take my word for it, but this case probably started the customizable HDD cage fad. Who needs 8 hard drives? Come to think of it, who needs 4 optical drives? Most case manufacturers think that everyone does. Not Fractal. With 2 ODD bays and your choice of 3, 5, or 8 HDD bays, this case is designed with versatility in mind. There is also an extra, vertical expansion slot for accessories. I’ve chosen to fill this with an NZXT white LED strip. Since this version comes with a large window as you can see, this LED strip, while showcasing my choice of hardware, also shows everyone my cable management. This case comes with grommets surrounding the motherboard. Each cable can make the shortest trip possible to its destination, meaning a very sleek look that really brings the case together.

Cons: On the other side, I find that the tint is too strong, however... this is an opinion, and a rather nit-picky one at that. The light strip looks better with a tinted window along with my LED CPU fan, however, without any interior light, the tinted window is a little self defeating. The window is also easily scratched, mine coming with multiple minor scratches upon arrival. Hardly noticeable without looking for them. I have a fairly high performance CPU fan, and the case does little to reduce the noise level, but that’s what the Define R4 is for.

Other Thoughts: The ultimate choice for me was between the Define R4, and the Arc Midi R2. With only a $10 price difference at the time of purchase, the Midi pulled ahead slightly. Now, the real choice between the 2 was silence, and heat, vs airflow and cooling. Obviously I thought airflow was more important, as I’m not writing a review for the Define. The computer sits immediately to my right, less than a foot away, and the noise isn't noticeable, unless I’m gaming or benchmarking. Even with my open headphones, I can’t notice a thing. All things considered, I don’t think I could have made a better choice. No other case fit my budget, and no case offered my aesthetic preference.

4 out of 5 eggsOver the top layout & quality

Pros: The comsmetic appearance is very attractive, actually over the top. All the filters that are provided are of great quality. The plastic brushed aluminum-like front panel is very high quality. You will never notice it is not real aluminum. The factory fans are near silent, and the cable managment inside the case is above average.

Cons: My #1 complaint would be that Fractal Design does not sell replacement filters. SHAME SHAME. Had to reduce an egg for that. The nice front grille can only be bent and unbent to change the filter about 3-5 times before the tabs break off.

Also my motherboard did not line up with the backplate as well as other cases.

Other Thoughts: If you need to get the maximum life out of the filters, you will NOT wash them, rather blow them out with 90-125PSI compressed air in the opposite direction.

5 out of 5 eggsSuch a nice design

Pros: The design is one of the better one's I've seen. I replaced a antec 1200 with this and it's noticeably more quite. The best features are the front and bottom filters you can take off and clean without having to take the computer apart. The hard drive bays that point to the side are quite nice too. Removable drive holders with rubber mounts for the phicical hd's and you can also mount a 2.5 inch drive in any of the bays, if you fill up the two spots behind the mb. Also the power supply pulls in air from the underside of the pc and then blows the hot air out the back, so most of the ps heat isn't adding to the heat in the case.

I also have one with the windows on the side, either one works.

Cons: With a standar ATX board it is a little tight, but only a mild anoyance when putting it together.

Other Thoughts: Not a single scrape from a sharp edge, always a plus when they keep the sharp edges down.

4 out of 5 eggsFit for purpose. Stylish for a generic black case.

Pros: 8 internal drive bays.
Fractal Design fans are relatively quiet. Fan filters work.
Cable management uncomplicated.
Spacious interior allowed for install of Silverstone Tek Heligon HE02 on a GA-F2A85XM-D3H board.
Sturdy construction.
Side panel allows for a 180mm fan.
Matte finish is truly matte. Without indicator lights, the case would blend into the darkness under the desk.

Cons: Side panel clips needed to be pried open a bit to allow easy on, easy off of the side panels.
One of the installed fans had a faulty connection, intermittent power loss, then died.
The drive brackets lack the same quality as the rest of the case, but are perfectly adequate for their function.

Other Thoughts: Despite a fan dying, and a side panel that required some TLC with needle nose pliers to make the removal and replacement of the side panels easy I continue to be very happy with this case. It allowed just enough working room for a Silverstone HE02 to be installed without any extra hassle. I was looking for something that at least provided the illusion of offering 9 hard drives increased protection, and the steel construction provides that. Regardless of the case location I've never been concerned about it being knocked over, because of it's weight and very effective feet. Currently it sits on a piece of glossy finish cardboard so I can slide it around on the rug. Otherwise, it wouldn't budge.
A few things to be aware of.
1) The internal hard drive brackets are very effective. No rattle or noticable vibration transfer, but they aren't the same level as the rest of the case, so be careful. I leaned on one I had left out on the bench and that is now the drive that sticks if I need to swap anything.
2) The external bays have no recess or channel around the opening. I have 2x 2.5 mobile rack in the top bay which blends with the surface, and a fan controller below it which stands out from the case. Now it's black mesh, which blends with the matte finish so it's hard to see, but there are other cases that don't have the same smooth exterior surface.
3) The side panel allows for a 180mm fan which I have installed ( the Silverstone FM181 ). The fan filters are effective, so if you opt for a high rate of air flow, if you aren't in a dust free environment, it will show in short order.
4) For a tightly packed case overall temps have been relatively slow since the 180mm was installed. Averaging 27C drive temps with two 140mm fans drawing air in across the drives. Before the 180mm fan, the average was consistently between 34-37C.

5 out of 5 eggsBest case I've ever bought

Pros: The variety of the cases internal configuration is amazing. Lots of room, the air filters are such a smart design coming from a case that has plenty of vents and fans but with no filter, the dust build-up is a chore to clean. The removable HDD bay makes plenty of room for the large video card.

Cons: none so far

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect!

Pros: *tasteful engineering qualities
*beautiful cosmetic appeal
*spacious for mid tower
*fits well in a professional setting (i.e. work office)
*no side window

Cons: *somewhat pricey (with tax + shipping charge) near 130.00

Other Thoughts: I knocked an egg off for the price. Under 100 bucks this case would be a BEST BUY. However, it is not. I really enjoyed building the computer within this case, the design was really well-done. + Looks great in an office setting.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 1. Tons of space
2. Removable and rotatable drive cages
3. Dust screens
4. Cable routing
5. Motherboard tray has hole to access back of cpu socket

Cons: Not really a con, but I wish the depth was 6 inches shorter to fit in my desk better.

Other Thoughts: I totally love this case!

I had intended to mount a Corsair H100i at the front, unfortunately the tubing was too short so it went on top.
