5 out of 5 eggsWords fail me .... get this case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: 1. Extremely well thought out design and features. They really thought about everything.
2. Roomy. Love the extra >1" space behind the motherboard for SSDs, cable management.
3. Love the ability to take out / move disk cages to make space for a longer video card, etc. Fit my Noctua NH-D15 and Sapphire Nitro R9 390 easily.
4. Love the way the disk cages are snappable + face to the side so they are easily accessed ... this should be made mandatory for all cases ...
5. Cable management is outstanding. Generous location of grommets for every possible cable (CPU power, HD Audio, ATX power, SATA, Fans). I didn't have one stray cable (though I had to redo a couple of connections because I didn't make full use of the grommets .... they really thought about every possible thing)
6. Whisper silent. I can tell the PC is on but that is only because my ears are pretty sensitive. The wife can't tell if the PC is on. You can see a clear reduction in noise when you close the sound dampening panels. The minor hum, I think, is because of the exposed fan vents. But this is an outstanding case for noise performance.
7. Love the tool-less design, easily accessible, thumb screws. Most of them stay on the case after unscrewing, so no danger of them dropping them.

Cons: 1. It is certainly on the larger side (not a giant but is big) but don't let it bog you down. It's functionality and modularity speak for itself.
2. It is certainly not flashy / colorful LEDs, etc, etc. Just clean lines, simple design and outstanding functionality. Delivers where it matters.
3. Only suggestion I would offer to Fractal Design for R6: In addition to the ability to remove the moduvent covers on the top for adding fans, could you also allow us to remove some portion of the top of the case (I mean right now, there is a solid unibody grill at the top even after removing the moduvent covers ... Im sure it will not be conducive to the case's structural strength but ... )? This would allow my not so slender fingers to access and (re)route some of the motherboard connections with greater ease after motherboard installation. I had a Noctual DH-15 and while I understand it is a huge fan, I would love the ability to access/(re)route connections more easily. Im sure it will help a lot of other builders who tinker with their build with new devices, fans, connections, etc.

Other Thoughts: 1. Get this case and you will not regret it.
2. This was my 2nd build. First build was Antec 900 .... and I just cannot believe I paid a similar price for a kinda loud, zero cable management, zero modularity, dirt magnet .... shows you what 6000+ reviews and 5 star rating for the Antec 900 on NewEgg mean. Sometimes, the herd is really not right and poorly informed ....
3. After my Antec 900 experience, my requirements were low noise, good cable management, modularity, CPU backplate cutout, dust filters.

This was the near perfect case for me. I paid 100$ for this in Mar 2016. I would have gladly paid 150$ - 200$ for this case (guess Im too anchored to Antec 900 .... just can't believe I paid 100$ for that case in 2008 ... i should have paid more attention to the critical reviews but was swayed by the 1000s of 5 egg ratings [and at that time, Im sure I couldn't resist the shiny LEDs too .... :) ... aah ... the perils of youth ... ].

Fractal Design has earned my business and while I won't be shopping for a case any time soon, trust me .... Im going back to them for any of my future builds for myself or others ...

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: - Stylish
- Awesome cable management built right into the case
- Incredibly quiet
- Really good air flow for how quiet it is
- Hard drive bays are really easy to use
- Easy to add extra fans

Cons: Nothing.

Other Thoughts: My 3rd complete PC build in the last 8 years or so, and this case was so awesome to work with I won't be buying any other brands again. I can't believe how incredibly quiet it is with 3 x 12cm fans going. I highly recommend this case!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat case!

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: - Super sturdy, lots of room for fans and radiators
- Feels "expensive"
- Really great design, you cant ell lots of thought went into the overall case design
- Easy to install everything, took me longer than other cases I have worked with, but that was due to the ability to nicely run every single cable/wire and as such, I got a little picky in terms of cable management.
- Nice size, little shorter than my past case, but had room for a 240mm rad on the top
- Rear fan can slide up/down, so I was able to position is nicely for the rad
- Top panels drastically cut down the noise of interior fans

Cons: - No case speaker, minor thing, but makes diagnosing computer errors that little bit harder
- Front door (while reversible) only opens slightly more than 90 degrees. I have used ACER cases in the past with a full 270 degree opening ability. For the price of this case, I feel a better door design could have been done. Would have been the icing on the cake.
- Titanium inlay is basically plastic. I was hoping for real metal for the increased lifespan.
- Top USB ports ARE tight as other reviews have stated. Whether is is from them being new or poor design I'm not sure. I haven't felt like anything was "stuck" but if you were careless you could in theory break a USB drive

Other Thoughts: I would buy it again, in fact this case has me looking at other Fractal products for a computer build I am working on. I would have like to see them have dust covers or something on the top to help reduce things from falling in. I ended up making little props for the covers to help reduce the noise of my radiator and keep things from falling in. I would love to see them include little pegs or something to hold the top panels an inch or so above the grill. Just to have them there would be nice. I ended up making something to do it, but little extras like that go a long way imo

Overall I am pretty happy with the case, good case, nice price. Wish Newegg was out of 10, as I would give this case a solid 8 and a half or 9 out of 10. But I could not give it 5 eggs, as there are some minor things that did irritate me. But I can get past those.

5 out of 5 eggsThings keep getting better

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: Low price
Great look
Everything detaches / pulls out / swaps
Tons of extra hardware
The LED is not bright anymore!

Cons: Id prefer that they remove the 'fan speed' toggle w/ the extra wiring on the front panel and use controllable fans instead. I had to choose between: fan speed monitoring or fan speed control or replace the two existing fans since the provided fans are 3 pin. I'd consider this a high performance case, so why skimp on the fans?

Other Thoughts: 11th build, and this is the best case I've had. Previous 4: Fractal R3, Fractal R3, Antec P180, Coolermaster Praetorian

It's the little touches that make it good. The cables were exactly where I needed them. Velcro management and extra twist ties. Motherboard standoffs labeled in the metal so you don't place a standoff in the wrong place. The drive bays come out in segments because they are vertically connected with tabs instead of screws. The extra PSU mounting hardware (with shallow threads) saved me from a PSU (EVGA 650 GQ) RMA.

4 out of 5 eggsHigh quality case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: Foam really works, great dust filters!

I've got 3 fans cooling my entire system and its almost dead silent while also remaining cool and efficient.

Cons: SSD brackets behind mobo are too small for the Samsung Evo SSD's, mobo tray cable openings could be bigger as well.
Wish there was a sort "roof" for top fan openings, even with fans installed, there should be something blocking them from being completely open.

Other Thoughts: Looks soo sexy

5 out of 5 eggsMy new favorite thing

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: - Can't stop looking at it
- So very spacious. So very QUIET.
- Hugely modular and exceptionally well planned. Lots of room for managing, routing, and tying cables. Lots of places to mount drive bay cages. Lots of places to install additional fans.
- Door feels pretty sturdy, can be fitted to open from either side.
- The front is ridiculously shiny. Like seriously it is so shiny.
- Has both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, which is useful as most of my devices are 2.0 anyway

Cons: - Can't stop looking at it. My friends are worried.
- Kind of difficult to efficiently run power to SATA devices, just because of the orientation of the hard drive cages and ODD cage with the nifty 2.5" drive mount behind the motherboard tray. I ended up not using the 2.5"mounts because of this but they do work very easily if you have enough lines from the PSU for it.

Other Thoughts: Best case I've ever had, easiest time I've ever had building. It was an exceptionally fun time and routing the cables through grommets and behind the motherboard tray was very satisfying.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case, lots of room for expansion

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: Solidly built case. Really good cable management options and plenty of room for extra cooling.
Sound-proofing is great too, can hardly hear multiple hard drives (using for NAS).

Cons: No cons so far.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have a PSU with long cables. I had to get a new PSU (Seasonic G550), as my older PSU didn't have cables long enough to reach mini-ITX motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: The case has lots of excess room and is setup very nice, no issues with space at all, more than enough hard drive slots and even has SSD slots. My only regret is not waiting a week because the one I wanted with the window went on sale for 89.99.
-Removeable tops for a 240mm fan
-lots of space
-solid looking

Cons: A tad on the expensive side

Other Thoughts: None

5 out of 5 eggsBest Case NA (and everywhere else)

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 FD-CA-DEF-R5-TI Titanium Computer Case

Pros: This is easily the best case I've ever worked with. While I was assembling my computer, I found myself saying "Huh, that's clever" a number of times in regards to how the case was laid out and set up. Tons of space, lots of features, excellent cable management, very quiet, good ventilation, etc. If I don't buy an R5 the next time I need to buy a case, it's because there's an R6 or R7 available. 6/5 would buy again.

Cons: Nope.

Other Thoughts: Hey! You there! The one reading this! Yes, you! Less thinking, more buying!
