5 out of 5 eggsExcellent case, easy to install

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout with Window Black Computer Case

Pros: I bought this as a replacement server case after struggling with an Antec 900 for too many years. Been running it for about 6 months. Definitely a step up. Holds more drives and you can easily see drive serial numbers for replacement or re-layout. Much less air than the 900 so much less dust on the inside, and dust screens work well. I was able to hide 6 3.5HDD +2 SSD drives in the back of the case without too much trouble. SSD drives can be hidden in the back with 2 specialized frames.

Cons: -The fit of the windowed door isn't quite right so I have to finagle with it to get it to slide into place.
-need to elevate the case if you are putting it on carpet, since there are vents on the bottom.
-hard drives run fairly hot for my tastes so you have to turn the fans up to high to get good airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout with Window Black Computer Case

Pros: - Looks fantastic, has lots of space
- Quiet

Cons: - Side panel was rather hard to screw in, didn't really want to go in straight
- Not sure if it's just me but plugging stuff in the USB ports on the front kinda gets stuck in there and I have to pull real hard to get them out.

5 out of 5 eggsFractal Design Define R5 Blackout with Window

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout with Window Black Computer Case

Pros: this case is by far the best I have worked with. plenty of air flow, also includes bottom and front air filters. has a lot of room to put a custom WC setup inside. cable management is a dream.

Cons: well to be honest there is one. although there are 2 dust filters that do there job very well, there isn't enough filters. like for the top removable panels and the back are of case. which I knew that when I bought this case. I had to purchase custom filters for this case from another company over seas. shipping was as much as the filters. fractal could make and sell the filters at an additional cost.

Other Thoughts: I would love to see a cover panel that would cover the PSU to hide it and the cables, and also have bracket supports for water cooling pumps like the define s.

yes I would recommend this case again

4 out of 5 eggsGreat product / Minor Annoyances

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout with Window Black Computer Case

Pros: Easy to work with. Keep components very cool. Very quiet. Two brackets for SSDs on the backside are well placed (be sure to have straight SATA/power connectors though). It is a simple but efficient style that works.

Cons: Be careful if you have an ATX motherboard with the USB 3.0 header pointing forward (90 degree). Installing my Sabertooth Z77 was a chore as I could not hook up the 3.0 header due to how the motherboard tray angles upward (to make way for cable management on the backside). I ended up using some pliers and bent the tray more so I could align the rubber garment hole with the USB 3.0 connector. Most motherboards have 180 degree connection so this wouldn't be a problem.

I wish Fractal had made the removable ModuVent panels at the top of the case a little more finger-friendly maybe even magnetic with a filter. I also wish Fractal had made the drive trays tool-free, and I was let down a bit by the occasional hard-drive related buzziness even with just one HDD installed. Bottom filter is a little hard to grip and pull forward.

Other Thoughts: -Simple, elegant styling / highly adaptable
-Silent operation
-Great details – side panel latches, removable storage sections, SSD trays
-Easy cable management
-Competitive pricing (especially if you can grab it or one of the variations for ~$100)
-Front door can be reconfigured to swing from the other side
-All fans/fan spaces are for 140 or 120mm fans
-Rear exhaust fan is adjustable to accommodate radiators
-Filters are real filters (optimum mesh)
-Included velcro straps make cable management easy

Pros: Mid tower. Left or right swing door options. Easy access to dust filters. Motherboard tray SSD mounts. Sleek look. Cable management. Quiet.

Other Thoughts: Awesome case that is just a few tweaks from being perfect.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout with Window Black Computer Case

Pros: Everything buy this case

Cons: Newegg sent me black instead of titanium which is what I ordered. Frustrating, but it seemed like more trouble than it's worth to send it back and request a new one. Big mistake by newegg.... This is strictly a newegg problem, I have no complaints about the case

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout with Window Black Computer Case

Pros: Looks, cable management, quiet and well built.

Cons: Top rad support, no 280mm with 5.25 bays installed. The bays should be separate where you could remove top and still use bottom for Blu-ray / DvD drive. The hard drive trays cant really be moved as they have screws that require the be placed in front of case behind fans.

Other Thoughts: This case is 2 or 3 steps away from being perfect. Looking forward to Refine 6.
