3 out of 5 eggsNot the best budget case

Pros: Installation was easy; all the holes were in the right places. The case looks nice enough. The power and reset button have a nice tactile response.

Cons: The front headphone jack is slowly crapping out. It doesn't recognize when I connect headphones until I fiddle with the connector for a while. The case fan is starting to vibrate and make an annoying rattling noise.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's OK but little reliability problems like the cheapo fan and the cheapo headphone jack lead to this non-enthusiastic review.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works... sorta

Pros: It's pretty sturdy, looks nice, and the fan is pretty quiet. For the most part it's a nice case and once I was finally able to get everything in it, I have to say it's a decent case.

Cons: Once the motherboard was fastened inside the case, I was unable to put drives in the 3.5" bays. The stock AMD heatsink was blocking me from inserting the drives. Normally I'd fault the CPU cooler maker for this issue, but since it was a stock cooler, Cougar should have planned for it. I'd imagine the same problem would occur if I tried to put a DVD drive in.

Other Thoughts: You will also not be able to access the 3.5" bays (nor probably the 5.25" bays) if you have RAM with tall-ish heatsinks.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Right

Pros: Lightweight, steel construction everywhere but the faceplate. Painted interior for ease and aesthetics. Easily removable faceplate for access to front fan and wiring harness.
It is the perfect case for my custom builds. Just enough room for my 850W power supply, single-width radiator liquid cooler and full-size graphics card. Not too much case that it upsets my wife.
If you want SLI/Crossfire multi GPU setup then look elsewhere. If you want a gaming rig that hits the mark, then this little case is a fantastic option.

Cons: Requires top-mounting of the PSU. This makes for a poorly balanced machine, so could be improved there.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeded my expectations

Pros: Great airflow (with separate purchased fans).
Very nice outside design.
Very affordable case that has a ton of potential.
Screwless bays that actually prevent the drives from shaking (some screwless only snap in on one side and don't hold drives firm, this case locks on both sides and the drives don't budge)
Very lightweight. Even with an HDD and older psu, this thing is like paper in comparison to my gaming rig microatx.
2.5" option that doesn't interfere with internal 3.5".

Cons: Only 2 usb ports on front and one is 3 and one is 2.
Only came with 1 case fan in the rear. Can't really complain for the price, but others in this price range at least came with a front fan.

Other Thoughts: Neither a pro or a con, but something interesting, the power led is a ring around the power button and the HDD activity LED is a ring around the reset button. Some people are specific about LEDs so I wanted to point this out. Could careless myself.
Also, I cannot comment on more than one fan because my PSU and stock fan keep my CPU/GPU and HDD temps below 30 c. My intention wasn't to have a radiator gaming rig. However; the fact that even an HTPC can get by on stock fan with it only going an average of 1000rpm means that you should be okay out of the box unless you want a beast inside.

Overall I am very happy with this case.
Competitors do have similar cases in this price range, but I wanted something different and I got it. The style alone makes it worth the extra couple of bucks. It is a simple case, but looks like it could be themed after a game or movie.

2 out of 5 eggsBad

Pros: Looks nice, works like it should, and the whole case is painted.

Cons: The second I opened the box I noticed the front of the case was slightly separated from the case itself. I took the case out of the box and saw a broken tab that connects the front piece to the case. The case still close properly so I opted to keep it regardless. I assembled the whole PC and afterward realized, there was a 1 inch crack on the right-top corner of the front of the case. I've contacted Cougar to see if they will send me a replacement front panel, but doubt they will because this is a cheapo case. I've been building PC's for about 8 years and this is the first case I have been disappointed with. I just can't believe how cheap the plastic is. I purchased this case because I needed something on a budget and this one had good reviews, but bad mistake.

Other Thoughts: Do not even bother with this case. Even if Cougar does send me a replacement front panel, it doesn't change the fact that it should not have arrived in this condition in the first place. If it were higher quality however, it would have probably arrived fine.

4 out of 5 eggsWorkstation Build

Pros: Black Inside/Out
Stylish Buttons
4 Fan Mounts

Good Construction
Brush Aluminum Style Front Plastic

Cons: Silver Hardware
No Removable Filters
Poor Wire Management

Other Thoughts: Cheap, the price out ways any short comings of such a small case.

2 out of 5 eggsI wanted to like this case

Pros: Price; looks.

Cons: Build quality; design errors.

Other Thoughts: This is no Cooler Master. I chose this because of its small size and adult looks, though I have always used Cooler Masters in the past. My last build was with a CM Elite, which is also cheap as dirt. It was superb except for CM and Intel not agreeing on the dimensions of a MB. I actually had to fabricate short standoffs to let the IO plate match the hole in that case. Anyway, I ran into some problems that beta testing would have caught in the Cougar case. First, there is no cutout below the CPU. This means the MB must be removed to do a CPU or cooler upgrade or repair. And if you use those problemmatic Intel coolers that may or may not snap into place, it really helps to be able to see the bottom of the MB to confirm when all is right. When they don't want to snap into place, the force of Atlas may be needed, and you should have your hand underneath to prevent damaging the MB. Second, you cannot install a 3.5" hard drive without removing the CPU cooler. If your cooler requires access from below you must totally disassemble the computer to move, swap or add a 3.5" hard drive -- a price I was not willing to pay. To conquer this nonsense I mounted my HDD on the floor and left the bays vacant. That is not as dumb as it seems, because there is no provision for a fan in the 3.5" bay area. The final engineering error was evident when I fit the expansion cards. Using this Intel MB (DG965SS, and I have no idea whether this would be the case with any other MB), the case IO slots did not align with the MB, and tightening down the IO brackets caused the brackets to ratchet, or cam, out of alignment. I regret my purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsattentive service

Pros: I had some trouble with a desktop build. I bought the parts, but didn't get around to the build for several weeks. As I built it, I had some intermittent trouble and suspected it to be the power switch on this Cougar case. I contacted Cougar and they sent me a replacement switch quickly and at no charge. Bravo!

Cons: No "cons.: The reason for 4 eggs is the switch had trouble in the first place.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget case

Pros: Low price, full black interior, feels well made.

Cons: Cable management could be tricky depending on what type of power supply you use. Only includes one fan but that's being picky since this case only costs about $35. tool-less mounts are just ok. No access to back of motherboard but again it was only about $35.

Other Thoughts: Well made case, great for a budget build.

5 out of 5 eggsI really like this case

Pros: - Front USB 3.0 Port
- Nice Full Paint Job
- No sharp edges
- Power and Reset buttons are crisp

Cons: - Side Panel screws are a little chincy

Other Thoughts: 5 stars based on the price. You can get better cases if that's where you want to spend your money. But, for $43 shipped I think it's great! - The drive quick-release(s) are fine if you don't man-handle them.
