Question 1

Does this have any external LEDs on it? If so, can it be turned off?

Yes, there is one bright white LED on the bottom right hand side.  This can not be turned off as long as your computer is on.  I have heard people somehow using a black marker and blocking it out, but I don't really care that it is there.  This fan controller does what it is supposed to do.  Control fans and it is a pretty good price too.  The only thing I wish it could do is shut off specific fans completely.  unfortunately even on the lowest speed the fan is still spinning.

Question 2

my MOBO only has 2 fan connectors, 1 for heat sink and one for main fan, can I use this to run more than what the MOBO allows?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as long as you have one free 4-pin Molex from your power supply.  It's more about your power supply than your MOBO.

Then you can plug in up to 5 3-pin fans.  Pretty cool.

Check out the Rosewill Hyperborea and Silenx's Effizio 120mm fans.  Both are very quite and push a lot of air.

What about the buzzing??

I'm using three Noctua NF-P12-1300 120mm case fans and have not had any problems with buzzing.

does this controller give  truly variable speed control?  i bought a cheap kingwin.  the control knobs really only change the fan speeds at 3 spots on the dial.  i assume it's somehow set for 5v, 7.5v and 12v.

so basically how is the response between moving the sliders and fan speed changes on this NZXT??

The fan speed really is variable. The sliders adjust the fan speed variably. There isn't a set actuation point with only a couple of speeds. The fans will speed up as the sliders move up.

Does this use sata power or do I have to get molex adapters?

Molex only. If your PSU doesn't have any available then you would need an adapter.

Can I control 2 fans from one switch?!

Yes! I use these with the controller. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200455 I'm using them with the dual fans in my h80i cooler, my two 120mm fans cable tied to my GTX680 and my two intakes on my Antec 902 tower.

Will this work for a case that has no screws on the bays?

Yes, if your bay is 5.25. Some how I don't think that's what you're asking for? Anyway way I had a card reader that didn't fit exactly like it should so I added a drop of glue to keep it in place. My computer case has latches that keep my devices in place I don't use screws myself.

Will LED fans light up with this controller?

I can't say for sure, I don't use LED fans in my build, but I have reason to believe they do. 3 pin fans have a power and ground wire for driving and then the third wire is for speed control. Which leads me to believe that it would work. I am very satisfied with the fan controller so I would recommend it, but cannot answer your question for sure. Sorry

Does this controller come with 3pin extension cables or will I have to purchase those separately? I have a large case with short fan wires.

This controller does NOT come with extensions.  However, I have used this unit in several builds and the supplied cables were lengthy enough to not require extensions.  (All mid-tower case builds)

Does this controller indicate if a fan doesn't work (is not spinning)?

No, This module is basically bare bones, it's just switch and lever. The only way you'll figure out if it's working or not is when it's connected and you try to speed up a fan or slow it down. It is a solid module..
