5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Easy to install. Comes with installion material. Looks great inside my case, works great, and is a easy way for me to control and monitor my fans and my computer temperature.

It doesn't control the fans individually, but the CAM software is much more convenient than a simple fan controller or hub, and to be honest, I was drawn to the Grid+ by its aesthetics.

Really awesome that it comes with zip ties too.

Props to NZXT for a very helpful and speedy customer service and product support.

Cons: I don't need to control my fans individually, but it should be supported.

Other Thoughts: Don't just pull the fan cables out of the Grid+, take your time and ease them out.

4 out of 5 eggsFan Master Controller

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: It controls all my fans. I have not had reached the limit of 30 Watts.
I like that I can use a simple program to control my fans. Not like speedfan which confuses me and I do not want to search how to use it. Plug and play is the key. it controls all my Corsair fans which makes me a happy camper. I also like the remote control from your phone to control grid+

Cons: Now this does not have to do anything with the grid + but it has to do with the CAM software. It is still the same issues with CAM taking up resources and making my cpu run a little hotter on the side if it is on. Other than that i love it.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Potential, a Few Flaws

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: The software included is easy to use, simple to get setup. Supports 6 fans and is painless to install.

Cons: The CAM software (required to use the device) leaves a bit to be desired. Upon launching the software, instead of taking you directly to the fan control it wants you to login and create a cloud profile. That's nice, but oddly unnecessary.

The Cam+ can not control the fans controlled independently. One setting controls all fans, and you don't have much flexibility in the matter.

If you have multiple fans which run at different speeds and sound levels this can make the Grid+ less than ideal. Not a deal breaker, but you really need to configure your fans around the fan controller. It's somewhat counter-productive that you need to build around the Grid+, NOT use the Grid+ to improve your case. The "all or nothing" approach in the software removes a lot of versatility.

Other Thoughts: The fan controller only accepts 3 pin fans. While it does include 2 adapters, this doesn't help if you've got a case full of 4 pin fans (hi!). No worry, you can just buy some fan adapters online. Only, that's oddly much harder than it should be. Finding a basic 4 pin to 3 pin fan cable that's *under* $10 that suits your needs exactly is much more difficulty than it should be. Plenty of Y-cables, multiple inputs. Even my local computer megastore lacked the adapters. Even Nzxt doesn't sell the fan adapters on their site.

Don't get me wrong, you can find the cables, but the pricing and shipping are not entirely in your favor. While I'll admit that it's my fault I didn't look at the fan connections when purchasing it getting the cables needed to convert my fans to work with the Grid+ added another $30 to the cost. Just something to keep in mind.

If they can find a way to implement 4-pin fans AND independent fan controls in the future, along with improving the CAM software, this thing will be killer. As it is, it works well enough on its own, but it's lacks the finesse most other fan controllers on the market.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Idea, Bad Execution

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: - Compact/small footprint
- Easy to hide
- Results in a much cleaner build/less wire clutter

Cons: - CAM Software
- W/CAM opened or minimized the program eats up a huge chunk of resources (cpu and mem)
- W/CAM opened/ minimized you also get increased idle temps due to use of resources
- NO INDIVIDUAL FAN CONTROL!
- Terrible interface for CAM software
- Lacks useful customization settings in CAM
- Bloated Software
- Slow update times for fan speeds adjustment (at least 6 seconds)

Other Thoughts: To start things off I had great hopes for this as a fan controller in general. The case I just purchased lacks ODD bays so I needed another option for a fan controller. Little did I know this thing is more of a glorified fan hub than an actual controller. It physically lacks the hardware to support individual fan control; so this will never be remedied by any software update they provide. I've waited a few weeks to see user reviews come in after seeing all the horror stories of increased resource uses with cam running or minimized, and after several software revisions this is STILL and issue. While I admit the CAM software looks nice, it lacks any form of useful customization. The fan curve adjustment is clunky when under custom, and it offers very little freedom for small adjustments (grid locked to hit certain temps and fan percentages). I understand what NZXT was going for with the CAM software, but it's currently just bloated software. I hope they create a standalone mode for fan control with nothing else but a fan curve option and the ability to set the curve based on both CPU and GPU temps. Until then I've disabled CAM and simply forced my fans to 70% via the manual fan control option until they fix their awful software.

5 out of 5 eggsServes my needs well and has potential.

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: The main things about the product that appeal to me are the fact that I can hide it behind the optical disk drive trays in the Corsair 350D, and, not have to play with any knobs or touchscreens. The brushed aluminum front of the 350D is totally ruined once you start putting 5.25" bays/devices in because to the left and the right of the bay is just plastic that isn't flush with the i/o and front aluminum plate that covers the fans. So, with this I can keep the aluminum drive plates in place and keep the nice, sleek brushed aluminum front.

The second thing is that since the cpu fan automatically ramps up from value to value with no interim that when I launch a game or anything cpu intensive that I can be sure the fans will ramp up to the speed i need them. and then vice versa; when I walk away or alt-f4 out of a game and leave and lock my pc I can be sure that they'll just go back down to 40%. As I said, no playing with knobs or touch screens.

Cons: Even those this product is compact it's really not THAT easily concealed or managed in a case like the Corsair 350D which already suffers from an easily suffocated cable management area behind the motherboard tray. Luckily I can just stuff it behind the optical drive bays as mentioned.

I do wish that the fan curve could be tweaked to something more akin like MSI Afterburner. It'll do for now.

Other Thoughts: I agree that the software is limiting what could be a great product. 5 watts per channel is sufficient for my build; the Aerocool Shark 120 and 140mm fans both top out at 5 watts for max speed and my cpu fans are plugged into the pwm headers so that's just what i need.

I don't see how this couldn't have enough power to push fans at 100%, however, keep in mind that the capability will depend on the fans you're running. If it doesn't then that's your own novice fault for not reading the specs on the fans you own before purchasing this. My Sharks all run at 100% for the reasons mentioned above.

I dont really have the option to use my mobo headers because I only have 2 free and they only output 5 watts per channel, so, if I use those i still need to come up with some kind of controller for the other 3 fans. I don't like having fans plugged into molex running at full power, besides, who does that anymore these days.

As for the software, I haven't had any issues with spiking CPU or RAM usage, or spiking GPU usage, everything works fine and it's a nice interface. I don't really like that I have to login or be logged in to use it but I can understand the direction they're trying to take the product.

As I'm typing this I become more and more pleased with the idea of having the back and forth automatic fan control between 40 and 100. 40 is quiet enough for my uses, and, it keeps my rig slightly lit up, and 100 is exactly what i want when im gaming. So, from my perspective, I don't really need anything else. I can also manually set the fan's to 40% and 100% when needed and have them stay there. So I really like that.

5 stars from me for my uses. It beats having to order one of Lamptron's overpriced fan controllers.

here's the bottom line: is it worth 30 bucks right now for most people? It'd probably be a hard sell and you should only buy it after you've really assessed your use case and figured out what's important to you.

2 out of 5 eggsNot ready for prime time

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Works well as a power grid. Compact and easy to place and hide wires.

Cons: CAM software is glitchy as H@LL and they know it. If this was the late 90s or early 2000's, I could understand putting a product like this on the market. BUT NOT 2014! Read the forums. LOTS, AND LOTS of issues. Mine worked once, then blue screened my PC. When I rebooted, the usb port on it was dead. Won't even mention the hassle I had to go thru with Newegg for advanced replacement.

Other Thoughts: No individual fan control, all or none. Does not have enough watts to power all fans at 100%. If the software was working properly, and my usb port hadn't died, I would be a happy camper. But that is a lot of 'IF'S' and no right answers.

4 out of 5 eggsAnother great product from NZXT

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Easy to install. Cam software is simple to use. Hides all fan wiring.

Cons: It appears fan speed is currently based only on cpu temps at this time. GPU based temps are in the works I understand.
Manual fan curve selection points can only be set 10°C apart- I feel it should be 5°C for finer adjustment.

Other Thoughts: When plugging fan connectors into the GRID+ you must be careful to not bend pins since you can't see how well the pins are lining up.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT fan controller

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: - You can control all of your fans through the free CAM software.
- You can set up a rather detailed fan profile that allows for pinpoint control based on CPU temperature/fan speed.
- The CAM software is user-friendly and provides all the information you could reasonably need.
- Small and discrete; no need to have an ugly, flashy 5.25 bay fan controller.
- This hardware/software combo allows you to have greater control over more fans that most other products would allow (without the need for constant manual adjustments).
- Grid+ allows for the control of 4-pin fans with two included extension cables/adapters. No PWM function though, speed is controlled through voltage like the other fans.

Cons: There are a few things that some might consider to be negatives though:

- You can only set up one fan profile, which will control ALL of your connected fans. You can not have a different profile for each fan.
- When the CAM software is open, it DOES use up a bit of CPU power, but leaving the program open is not necessary for proper function. Set your fan profile, and close it (unless you want to make a change, or look at PC operations).
- I haven't yet figured out how to get the CAM software to NOT open on initial Startup. Your fan profile kicks in automatically when Windows starts, so it's unnecessary.

Other Thoughts: There is no other fan controller out there (that I know of) that offers the level of control through software, the ease of use of the software, and the discrete form factor of the hardware as the Grid+ from NZXT. Especially at this price.

It's the first NZXT item I've bought for a PC, and I'm quite impressed.
