Scythe KS01-BK "KAZE SERVER" Advanced Fan Controller

  • KS01-BK
  • Aluminum
ICON Loading...

Scythe Kaze Server Fan Controller offers 3 methods of controlling the fan speed: manual, semi-auto, and automatic control of up to four fans with a freely definable temperature. Reading out of the temperature is done by four temperature sensors. The Kaze Server uses only the highest quality materials: stylish brushed aluminum coupled with the illuminated blue display makes the Scythe Kaze server a premium fan controller.

  • newegg Precious Aluminum Design High-quality materials were used when producing the Kaze Server. The front consists of brushed aluminum and accentuates the illuminated LCD display in an optimal way.
  • newegg Fan Control and Temperature Monitoring With the Kaze Server, four fans can be controlled independently, and four temperatures (in either ° C or °F) can be monitored. In addition to manually control the fan speed on four knobs, the Kaze Server Fan controller allows a fully automated and a semi-automatic operation mode. AUTO mode: Kaze Server switches off the fan when the real temperature is much lower than the self-defined temperature. SEMI mode: In addition to AUTO mode, a minimal rpm of the fan can be defined together with the self-defined temperature. An integrated acoustic alarm function (which can be deactivated by a jumper) warns you from overheating and failure of a fan.
  • newegg Wide Range of Fan Controller The fan voltage can be independently controlled from 3.7 - 12 V; in addition, the fan can be switched off completely which allows you to choose between silent and ultra-cooling operation.

1 out of 5 eggsNot great.

Pros: Great concept, good looks. All black and stilish, pressable knobs, it's all there - I bought it the moment I saw it.

Cons: Low build quality. Cheap capacitors that are really hot during work. The item doesn't feel too safe.

Display was flickering from day one. One of the channels stopped showing temperature in about a week. Viewing angle really tiny - if you PC is on the floor you won't see a thing.

I really like the idea of the product and I have very mixed feelings about a manufacturer who could come up with such a great product and then ruin it completely at production phase.

I will hardly buy a Scythe product again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Fan Controller

Pros: Works perfectly. The build quality is good. You can turn the display on and off using a button on the top left corner.

Cons: The display is a little dim and hard to read if you aren't looking straight at it.

Other Thoughts: I actually used this to control 6 x 120mm fans (3 channels @ 2 fans per channel using 3 pin y-splitters) to vent a custom made A/V cabinet for a home theater system. The "Auto" mode was a deal maker and allows the 3 sections of the A/V unit to turn on the fan's independently and automatically based on temperature.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Auto / Semi-Auto setting, its awesome!

Cons: One of the individual controller went dead after a week of use. going to RMA and see what happens to the second one

There are 4 heatsinks on top of the connectors and they get quite hot. Should have some fan to dissipate the heat

The display can not be viewed unless in direct angle

Other Thoughts: Just for users who wonder how are the auto function is set. There is a little button next to the knob where you press it and set the desired temperature limit.

4 out of 5 eggsLooks great, works well.

Pros: Looks great. Installed easily into a 5.25" bay. Good competant fan control in any mode (auto, semi, and manual). Well worth the money.

Cons: The knobs are a bit wobbly and seem like they'd break off easily if pressed too hard or any sideways pressure was applied. The unit needs better calibration, sitting next to each other the temperature sensors all report different temperatures plus or minus 2'C around the actual. This isn't a deal killer as you can adjust the set points once installed, but it can throw you off if you intake reading is higher than your case temperature if you assume they're all accurate. Finally, the viewing angle on the LCD is poor, but this is a minor complaint.

Other Thoughts: It does have a ton of wires, but I'm not sure how you can really complain about that since they're required for all the temperature sensors and fan connections. It's just up to you to get creative with cable managment. That said, at this price some included cable ties would be nice.

3 out of 5 eggsmeh

Pros: Clean design, well laid out PCB

Cons: No sleeving on wires, hard to mount(only 2 screw holes), 1A on each channel only...2 low powered fans at best for each channel which is the biggest con.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Attractive, Powerful, Flexible. Good control over fans. White display!

Cons: I've had a hell of a time getting this thing to be reliable. Every so often, a fan will just stop working. I can't get my fourth fan to register. Finally, it's been blinking all four temp sensors at 199 f for over a week now, and I haven't touched the thing to break anything. The LCD is hard to read at off angles.

Other Thoughts: My experience would be great if the unit weren't unrealiable. Also, the temp sensor should be used as only a very rough indication of temp in that area (I'm pretty sure mine actually ramp up when I use fans). Also, good luck reading the screen if the PC sits on the floor.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: -Has individual temp sensors and auto controls for fans
- Starts up fans at full voltage and lowers on boot up
- Very good looking
- Options aplenty

Cons: - Fan control is not direct
- Multijog style knobs that just turn, no stops on them
- Small heatsinks with hot running transistors
- Display is useless from off angles
- only handles 12 watts max per channel. No specification whether this is max continuous or max peak.

Other Thoughts: Coming on one year of powering 2x Silverstone 92mm (white) higher flow fans, and 2x Silverstone high flow 120mm models. It has not broken down. Not my most favored piece of equipment, especially when price is considered, but it works.
I had planned on installing larger heatsinks for it to help cool, but haven't done it yet. Apparently with half amp fans it's unnecessary. Not the best, but far from the worst (it hasn't died yet).

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointing

Pros: Looks wonderful.

Cons: One of my higher powered fans (a delta 12v fan, still within limits) burned out one of the 4 controllers. I plugged the delta fan into a working controller and touched the heatsink, it was probably 200 degrees hot.. very hot. The delta fan was only on 3000 rpm with a max of 5000. Right now I have it turned to 2000rpm but I don't expect it to last.

Other Thoughts: If the fan controller just had a fan of itself and bigger heatsinks, it would be great. Unfortionantly that isn't the case here and if you expect it to push any PC fan out there (120mm) then you're wrong. It will burn out on fast fans.

5 out of 5 eggsworks good as far as i know

Pros: controls all my 3 wire fans, and a 4 wire off cpu, but dont tell it its a 4 wire or it might not work. plenty o wire
If you can set time on a watch you can set this up

Cons: doesnt control 2 wire fans, aw the age of technology!

not a con...running 955 denab at 3640, fan speed 5310, cpu temp 102.6 air temp 90.0, in full auto,.. in semi auto mode, if your "reg temp" isnt close to a appropriate temp , the fan speed may not work the way u want, full msn mode, thats what I wanted, and it has it, it works find if you set it up right, while your settin it up it may over heat, after I set it up , I decided that id sleep better with it on full auto

Other Thoughts: ambt air temp by case prob half a degree from controler ambt temp tempds on cpu and hds off 3-8 deg, but I also know that my probs are not in the same spot as the systems. and I just use HW temps to the case air temp, to see a relative diffence 58 deg here and 62 deg there are both still hot

3 out of 5 eggsOnly for if you have your PC directly facing you at face level

Pros: Looks beautiful with my black case

Readings are in RPM for more accuracy instead of percents *cough*SentryII*cough*

Knobs and buttons feel solid quality when turning or pressing down.

Implemented button to turn LCD screen backlight off if you want to goto sleep although...

although you can easily goto sleep with the backlight on as well since its nowhere near annoyingly bright because the backlight background is black and only the numbers are highlighted white... this is great and gives it a much more classy and professional look instead of those toy-like displays that give you personal raver light shows in the dark.

2 extra temp sensors included

Cons: Main con: The display is illegible, cannot be read unless you are DIRECTLY facing it. As in if you're like me and have your computer on the floor at your side, you won't be able to read any of it from your seat and they'll just appear as an army of 0's. Terrible viewing angles on this lcd.

Also, it might not fit snug if you have tool-less bays as this controller's side panels are too thick to slide into my CM 690 II's bay's ledges. You can get it to work though with some fiddling.

The alarm beeping sound is obnoxiously loud and annoying... luckily this can be disabled.

The supplied tape is garbage as other reviewers have already mentioned.

Instruction manual is cluttered, chaotic, and shallow... however, you should be able to set it all up without any instructions easily as everything is pretty self explanatory just by looking at them.

Other Thoughts: Would be perfect if the viewing angles weren't so awful... but its an LCD so what are you gonna do? The older models Scythe Kaze Master and Master Ace both use VFD instead of LCD which greatly improves the viewing angle, although neither the Master and Master Ace have the auto/semi-auto modes as this one does.

Hope this helped. Good luck on your decision.
