2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice looking, solid aluminum construction.

Cons: The fan died almost immediately. Doesn't cool.

Other Thoughts: After a couple of weeks the fan started making a really loud grinding noise that progressively got worse. I took the fan out and it didn't change the temperature at all.

Since I bought this product to add a hard drive into a small computer without any extra space besides an free 5 1/4" bay, it works for what *I* intended for it...however, it's being sold as a cooler and if it doesn't actually do that, and if the fan breaks then I would consider it poor and hence the rating.

1 out of 5 eggswaste of money

Pros: cool look

Cons: doesn't cool the hard drive. I bought 4 of these to cool my RAID5 setup. Within a few days the top most hard drive had failed due to over temp. I ended up replacing all 4 with a solution which actually worked.

Other Thoughts: I am very disappointed with this product. Usually thermaltake sells top quality products. This product is a complete waste of money. It does not perform the function it was supposedly designed for.

3 out of 5 eggsLooks nice

Pros: Like the look of it

Cons: Fans dont really produce much airflow

Other Thoughts: Bought 2 of these and the first one started having some trouble whenever the comp is powered up (loud noise), but it goes away after a few minutes. Couldn't say how loud they are, have 12 fans total in my system including these 2.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: looks nice

Cons: actual cooling is nearly nonexistant- within 10 minutes of using this (at idle), the drive (WD Raptor) was hotter than it had been after 45 days (straight) of use with only poor air cooling. If you're even considering getting this, you must need better cooling than it offers.

Other Thoughts: I've been looking for a decent HDD cooling solution for a while. I've also been a longtime fan of thermaltake, and am HIGHLY disappointed.

The "fan" is about 5mm thick, 40mm wide, completely open (resembles a cog attached at the center), and moves air at random (no air-flow designed), and there's very little space around the drive for air to even move.

2 out of 5 eggsDead!

Pros: Looks decent, has enough thermal mass to wick away some of the heat in case of fan failure.

Cons: Fans in all 8 units are locked up tight after 5 months. The fans are open frame and built into the base, so they can't really be replaced.

Other Thoughts: These operate in a server cabinet in a filtered air environent, so it's probably just a case of super-cheap fans. Don't waste the money unless you want to rig fans up after 6 months or so.

1 out of 5 eggsLooks nice at first and then...

Pros: Solid, the conductive pads are nice, and it works nicely with my scsi drive.

Cons: 1. The face is wider than standard and won't fit in the front of the case.
2. The fan died after 3-4 weeks of use. No wait, it didn't die, it yells and screams bloody murder nonstop once turned on.

Other Thoughts: Combine the too wide face plate and the garbage fan, I would recommend NOT buying this unless those two issues are irrelevant to you.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Construction but lacking

Pros: Solid aluminum casing absorb heat well and dampens sound. Looks good.

Cons: Item desperately needs more options to accommodate differences in HD heights. Fan assemble looks flimsy and is suspect

Other Thoughts: The mount pins are short limiting the use of extra washers used to adjust the height of the HD so that thermal pads can make contact. *hint* I used motherboard standoffs in the bottom mount holes on my seagate 7200.10 which is very slime; Standoffs threaded properly and adjusted height to within specs of the cooler

2 out of 5 eggsBad Fan

Pros: Cools the hard drive?

Cons: The fan is loud! I think one of the blades must be longer then the others. I can't find another fan to replace this one.

Other Thoughts: I am not to sure about hard drive temps, but my 10,000 rpm is usually around 31-33 C with this cooler. The fan is really bothersome. Buy a different hdd cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsDont Know Why The Reviews Are Bad

Pros: This thing is great. I installed my rapter in it, turned my computer on, and did not hear the fan nor my rapter. I think it may silence it a bit because my rapter is dead silent.

Cons: Fan may be to small if anything

Other Thoughts: The blue light is cool. :)

3 out of 5 eggsOk for a while

Pros: A decent chunk of aluminum to help sink heat away from the hard drive and spread it around.

Cons: Cheap fans that fail after a few months, and don't do a whole lot to begin with. Some drives don't contact the thermal pads well. Silly blue LEDs in the front.

Other Thoughts: Unlike some other coolers, this one actually has a some mass to help get rid of the HDD's heat. When the fan fails (and it will,) it still helps keep the drive cooler. Assuming your case has some airflow in it, that is. Pull both protective covers off the thermal pads before installation.
