1 out of 5 eggsThis thing is a JUNK!!!

Pros: You can use a remote.... kind of.

Cons: This thing sucks if your thinking of using a Harmony and XBMC. If you want to use the crummy little software that comes with it then ok. I searched on forums forever to find the software and drivers I needed for this thing to half way work. If you are looking for an ir receiver then just get a regular hp, dell, or microsoft receiver. Don't bother with this heap!!

Other Thoughts: I can't believe this junk is $30. What a rip off!!!

4 out of 5 eggsReciever works great

Pros: Works as advertised. Turns the PC on and off, and allows me to control software.

Cons: The remote and manual. Apparently if you unplug your external power cable, and then plug it back in, you have to turn it on with the power button before you can use the remote. I wish I had known that. Maybe it's just my power supply.

I never got the remote to work. It's junk. Just buy a Logitech Harmony. I got a used 300i from here. Go to the Harmony web site to program it. They have the Antec Basic in their database. It works fine.

Other Thoughts: For the price I don't care about the remote. I'm sure Antec knows that people using these things are going to already have a programmable remote or two.

3 out of 5 eggsDoes what it says.

Pros: It does what it says it would

Cons: Not a thing more. I had no other WMC remotes that would get this to work.

2 out of 5 eggsGo for a better one

Pros: IR receiver seems to work, trying with another remote now

Cons: The packaged remote is very weak and nearly useless (limited functions, isn't very responsive); iMon software not very user friendly and doesn't seem to have been updated in over a year

Other Thoughts: Bought this as a temporary solution while I am looking for an HTPC case (put the IR receiver in an old mid-tower case).

1 out of 5 eggsHorrid support

Pros: Easy installation.

Cons: Could not get the remote to function with WMC and sat on hold for more than an hour (at "queue position one") before I got disgusted and gave up.

Other Thoughts: This thing is going back to newegg. I'd rather do without than let Antec have my money, even if its only ~$30.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Mike,

We deeply apologize for your hold time. I brought this up to our customer support team and they're going to take a look into possible phone transferring issues because an hour wait is abnormal even under a heavy call volume. Please write us at VIP@antec.com and we'll have a technician get in touch with you promptly. Again, we apologize for your experience here and we'd like a second chance to make things better. Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsGood IR reciever, bad remote and instructions

Pros: IR reciever looks nice. That is the only reason I bought this, for an embedded IR receiver.

Cons: IR Remote is cheap (just throw it away after you get everything set up) and the setup instructions are confusing.

Other Thoughts: To help save the next user some time, I'll post my the steps I used to get this to work with my Logitech Harmony 700 remote, using the Harmony Remote Software 7.7.0:

In the Harmony Remote Software 7.7.0, you can no longer choose Generic MCE Remote as an option. You have to pick a brand from the drop down menu and then type in the model number which the software tries to match. I used The Rosewill RHRC-11002 as my device. You can use any MCE brand remote, but I had this one for another computer and it is compatible with Windows 7.

On my HTPC, I downloaded the latest iMon software (only the iMon software - nothing else) and went to Settings -> Remote Controller -> MCE Remote.

Once I did that, everything worked great. Any other settings I needed I changed with the Logitech Software.

4 out of 5 eggsDiscard the directions

Pros: Reciever matches my black Lian Li HTPC case very well.
Wide angle of effectivness.
Works with Logitech Harmony remotes (see other thoughts)
Accepts input without any noticable lag.

Cons: Directions are terrible. The software is not very intuitive after the initial remote selection (3 options, 2 versions of their own remotes or a MCE remote). The HD frame software is total garbage, its cheesy and VERY non-intuitive. The included mini remote is definatly a throw away. If you are using this with WMC pick up a cheap harmony or other MCE remote.

Other Thoughts: I put this in a new HTPC with a Ceton Infinitv tuner card to take over the duty of my 3 cable boxes through Windows Media Center. That all worked, but following the directions to get the logitech harmony one remote to work with this was a nightmare. And it didnt have to be. The trick was instead of using soundgraph or imon in the logitech software you set the logitech remote as a generic MCE remote. I spent hours looking for the solution and kept seeing all these remapping or other such workarounds that were massivly involved when it was just a matter of setting up the remote as MCE remote. Works great now.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Only For IR Power Control

Pros: Easy to set up a Logitech Harmony to cycle power once I realized it needs to be configured to Media Center PC, SoundGraph, iMon. Quick physical install and the included software is not necessary (in fact, stay FAR away from it!).

Cons: At first I could only get it to power on my PC then it would cease to function unless I unplugged the PC's power supply. After doing some research, I learned that the software, and apparently Windows itself, can send commands to modify the behavior of the IR unit. This was what was happening when I would lose control over it, but unplugging the USB connection from the IR unit solved that issue like a charm.

This tiny device is WAY overpriced. It should sell for about ten bucks max.

Other Thoughts: Only get this if you're looking to remotely control the power on your PC and use a Logitech Harmony set as "Media Center PC, mfg: SoundGraph, model: iMon" (You have to type in iMon as there's no pull-down for it.) When installing the unit, attach the power supply patch cord and attach the little power plug that runs from the patch cord to the IR unit itself. Attach the case's power switch to the IR unit & the IR unit's power switch plug to the mobo's power switch pins. DO NOT ATTACH THE USB CONNECTION! (That was the source of a few hours of frustration for me.)

Hook it up like I described, program your Harmony remote as listed and you will have excellent power control of your PC. If you plug in the USB connector or install the software you will likely be very sorry.

3 out of 5 eggsfrustrating

Pros: Looks cool on a black case
It turns on and off computer
It will play and pause in different media players
The angle of the remote doesn't seem to be as bad as some make it out to be.
remote is small

Cons: blue LED when computer is off(waste of electricity)
Imon software is a headache, but I started to get the hang of some functions with time.
volume control from remote does not work. It changes the Imon volume, but that has no bearing on the movie you are watching in VLC, WMP, or other programs. it doesnt change your system sound. I have "trial and error" for a while with no success.

not all of the buttons on the remote are programmable it seems.

Other Thoughts: You can disable the annyoying sound that plays when you push a remote button. You have to change settings in the Imon software.

Adds a decent amount of extra wires and cables to your case (3-4).
