5 out of 5 eggsWorks and is inexpensive

Pros: Every slot seems to work without problems. I have an SD card plugged in to it almost constantly and have yet to run in to problems with this device. USB 3.0 speeds make this REALLY fast for R/W speeds. Info reads and writes as fast as a solid-state hard disc drive connectd via SATA. Front USB 3.0 port is great, too.

Cons: I guess I wish the lights were blue to match my case, but what can you do....

Other Thoughts: I don't know if it is my USB 3.0 card or this unit, but the USB 3.0 port doesn't seem to like connecting to certain devices. Any USB 3.0 device works fine, but most USB 2.0 devices I plug in to it don't show up for some reason. I have unholy amounts of USB 2.0 ports, so it never is really an issue and thus I won't remove eggs for it.

Also, what uses memory sticks anymore? If this was a CF and SD an Micro SD reader, I would love it more.

2 out of 5 eggsSometimes works, sometimes not

Pros: A nice layout of card reader slots, activity lights and USB 3.0 port. But problem-plagued operations.

Cons: I really liked the design of this memory card reader, which enabled me to easily download files from cards and connect USB 3.0 portable hard drives to the front of my PC. Problem: this device intermittently flakes out. About 25 percent of the time it doesn't operate, as if the connection to the motherboard header was cut. Sometimes I'd have to reboot to get it to work. I put up with the random outages because I thought perhaps I had a bad mobo header or the USB 3.0 drivers were flakey. I just had two days where it would not work, no lights, nothing. Rebooting, powering down, etc. didn't help.

Other Thoughts: I am shopping for another USB 3.0 card reader from a different vendor. This unit only cost $25 and it's not worth going back to Newegg for a refund. One last shot before I toss this unit: I just got a new SSD drive, so I am reinstalling Windows 7. Will see if that changes anything. However, when I installed this device originally it was right after a fresh Windows install, so I don't have much hope. And to note, all of my USB 3.0 back panel mobo ports work fine, never flake out. So tending to think the header is fine too.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Great little card reader. The front USB 3.0 port gives the same read/write performance as the 3.0 ports on the back of the PC. No signal degradation.

So far, I've tested USB sticks, SD and Micro SD with no problems. Transfers have never been a problem and it doesn't drop drives.

Cons: LEDs aren't blue. This may actually be a pro for some, but I wish it had Blue LED's.

Other Thoughts: In other thoughts, I read the other reviews on this product and I feel bad for those who had a problem with this device. My experience has been quite the opposite, however.

It's a card reader that operates as it should.... What more can I say.

As always, NewEgg shipped fast and sold the item at a great price!

1 out of 5 eggsHas major design flaw

Pros: It was easy to take apart in order to see why it was a flawed design.

Cons: This is a fairly long review but worth the read if you are considering this product. This card reader has a major design flaw. The thickness of the soldered USB 3.0 connector plug is too thick. You could even see the imprint of the screw head in the rubber connector. It keeps the top circuit board from being fastened down far enough so that the right side is level with the left side. Thus the slots for all of the cards are slanted and they do not line up properly with the slots on the face of the reader. With some of the slots, you might be able to maneuver the card into the slot but the CF (compact flash) is impossible because there is a guide on the face and also on the CF slot that don't line up and will never line up. I tried a modification by slipping a thin washer under the post of the left side of the top circuit board. It evened out the slot but then the slots were all raised up to far and the face completely was misaligned with all of the card slots.

Other Thoughts: I got this product based on my purchase of a power supply by the same company eight years ago and it is still working perfectly. However, this card reader is clearly below the normal quality in all respects for this company. They must be putting their brand name on another company's product. The fit of the face is not tight and smooth and falls off easily. The card reader I ended up getting for my build is quite satisfactory. Since I understand I can't say the brand name, lets just say that I installed it in the AFTernoon.

4 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 port not working

Pros: USB 3.0 speed card reader with motherboard connector. Plug and play. Micro SD slot.

2 out of 5 eggsIssues with stability

Pros: Great speed when the reader is operational, but with a slight pressure change on the inserted USB 3 drive cable then your looking at disconnects and even power issues of the entire reader itself. I originally posted a five star rating, but after only 4 months and getting issues like this I felt people should know. It works great when it works, but that is a rarity now that it has started to fail.

Cons: Disconnecting my devices while transferring large amounts of data. Seemingly anything more than 12 GB will cause the unit to power off, disconnecting my usb device and thus ending my excitement of USB 3 speeds. Any pressure change will cause the units power light to flicker or even shut off, then causing the usb device to disconnect.

Other Thoughts: It works so well when it works, but I am not having such luck recently... its sad because of its superior design to other models that do not use the internal 20 pin usb 3 hub.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks good

Pros: Has USB 3.0 front port and MB interface. Seems to download my fast CF cards quicker than my old USB 2.0 card reader, but that PC is dead and I can't do a real comparison. Does not require separate driver.

Cons: The CF card slot is upside down (or at least from my old one it is). The SD slot seems correct though, but is no faster than the one on my laptop.

Other Thoughts: This works just fine. I like not having to mess with drivers. Still would like to know how it compares to my old reader, but oh well! Gets the job done.

1 out of 5 eggsInternal Card Reader

Pros: Nice layout

Cons: Does not read USB 3.0 only 2.0
Their RMA is a joke.
Customer service states it is dysfunctional, spend a bunch of money to send it back.

Other Thoughts: After you jump through several RMA request hoops you'll spend half of what it is worth to ship it back. This is quote from their customer service

The CR935 unit is defective. There are nothing else in the unit that can be corrected beside replacing it. Here is a link to start the RMA process and I will help you get a
replacement. We offer 1 year warranty for this product. If it is within 1 year, you can contact RMA through our website.
