4 out of 5 eggsIt works...

Pros: It does work. I recovered a lot of old data that had been discarded. I used it with two ide drives and two internal sata drives. I did it in linux, and it worked just fine.

Cons: The directions are terrible. Neither of the usb cords on mine are red like in the picture, so you just have to know that the first usb plug on the cord is the only one that should ever plug into your computer. From what I've read in other reviews if you get this wrong you could fry your computer.

If you are recovering data from an ide hard drive, you have to power the hard drive itself in via your computer because this device won't power it. None of this is in the directions of course.

5 out of 5 eggsextremely versitile

Pros: compact, capable. It does not bottleneck usb 2 transfer speed. I love that the second USB cable can be used to power overly hungry 2.5 drives.

Cons: Under constant heavy usage is gets pretty warm. Also, the rubber neck where the cord enters the device has always been jiggly. Both are of minor concern.

Other Thoughts: I've had this product for over 4 years and it is still going strong.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Product out there for someone that know an HDD from a hole in the ground

Pros: My local computer shop (shoutout to computer deli inc) carried about 6 different "toaster" style sata docks. When i mentioned that I work on all variety of HDDs they immidiately told me that this is the device they use in shop for data recovery. If you know how to install and remove a HDD from your machine you are qualified to use this product. furthermore, the versatility is unmatched 5 eggs all the way. Don't listen to the amatuers who unplugged their device mid-transfer and call this a junky product while blaming it for their hardware failures.

Cons: Backup button is pretty much worthless. It simply triggers a half-hearted data mining software that is more convoluted than useful. Still would definitely recommend this product for the savvy user.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: It just works. Plug it all in, then turn on the HDD. Bam! Done. Nothing to configure, and nothing to worry about.

Works great in Windows systems. I have been using this adapter for over 2 years with no problems. I do not use the backup button though.

Cons: Sometimes messes up if you turn on the HDD first then plug it in. But all you have to do is powercycle it, and it works fine. User error, not product error.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat little tool

Pros: cheap, convenience, easy to use.
I have used it for at least 4, 5 years and have connected to at least 3 or 4 dozen different type and size of hard drives.
Never used the backup feature though.

Cons: not so clear documentation, bad reviews from other

Other Thoughts: I can never figure out what is the color of the LED green vs yellow means.

2 out of 5 eggsbroke after a year

Pros: Works perfectly while it's intact.

Cons: The mini-USB connector completely came off its soldering after a little over a year. Tried to re-solder it with no success. Piece of trash.

5 out of 5 eggsHandy Tool

Pros: Works fine to convert old IDE drives to an external drive with a USB connection. Important to read and understand directions. Do a little research.

Cons: Don't use without a full understanding of the process for various drive types.

Other Thoughts: Had two failed computers in family, both using IDE connectors. Used this to transfer files from old IDE drives to my newer computer using SATA drives. Everybodys happy.

1 out of 5 eggsFired motherboards from this product

Pros: It has transferred some data off my drives. Very convenient.

Cons: Awful product! After owning this product for about year now. I had to replace two motherboards one on a PC and one on a Laptop. I not a person that likes to say bad things about a product but people should aware of this issue.

1 out of 5 eggsBurnt up usb ports on mother board

Pros: Worked for a while. In fact, it still works, though it occasionally messes up data. It was cheap, though, and initially helped rescue a few needed files. Works on many drive types.

Cons: This little unit has fried a power supply and now the usb ports on my motherboard. Back fed while using a sata drive, as many others have complained, and killed the power supply (while it was hooked up correctly - I triple checked), and then fried the usb ports after working for an hour or so.

Other Thoughts: I think this is a decent tool for a couple files, especially if you're quick about it, but in my experience, it can not be used for long periods of time without causing damage. Also, don't expect all the data to not get corrupted. I would purchase an enclosure with better reviews.
