SurgeArrest components such as MOVs and Thermal fuse ensure instantaneous reaction to lightning strikes and wiring faults. If the surge components are damaged due to power spike or over voltage, excess power cannot reach your equipment. Unlike the APC SurgeArrest products, most surge suppressors continue to let power through even after circuits have been damaged, leaving your equipment exposed to other damaging surges.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked Great for 15 years

Pros: I bought one of these 15 years ago to protect the two incoming phone lines to our house. It worked great until a strong thunderstorm night before last, when one of the two lines died. I suspect it died in the line of duty, doing what it was designed to do. So I've just ordered a new one to replace it. A well worthwhile product.

Cons: Not a one, unless you count it being too inexpensive to be believed.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with my ADSL

Pros: I've bought one of these several years ago (not from Newegg) when I had two phone lines. I have long since disconnected the second phone line and got DSL instead. Despite what the other reviewer said, it surge protected my ADSL for years now. It is within feet of the demarcation point, though.

Cons: Too expensive. Uses RJ-45 jacks and can accept RJ-11 plugs too. It passes all eight wires, but only surge protects the center four (the ones that are used for phone lines #1 and #2). The documentation doesn't really make this clear. So you can't surge protect Ethernet or more than two phone lines.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps the other user had a weak DSL signal and a long line distance to begin with. As soon as my phone line enters the house, I pass it through this device. Then I split it off to the DSL modem and the phones. I get 2.5 Mbps downstream and 350 Kbps upstream, exactly what AT&T guarantees.

1 out of 5 eggsNot for DSL.

Pros: none

Cons: Doesn't work with DSL. It may work for people within feet of the telco, but for me it drops the line quality from strong enough for the highest speed to below usable.

Other Thoughts: I typically look to APC for quality products. I was sorely disappointed that this one was such an afterthought. This is junk.
