Energy prices keep rising, and there seems to be little let-up in sight. Belkin brings you a surge protector that lets you turn off those appliances or electronics that are wasting money by sitting there in "stand-by" mode! Equipped with a remote to control each connected item, you have complete control of your energy usage for those items in the palm of your hand.

Equipped with outlets both for items that need always to be on, and switched outlets for the pieces which can be shut off, this versatile device will save you more than it cost you in very short order. Each outlet comes with a safety shutter, as well, to shield it from prying small fingers or other instruments.

The Belkin Conserve Surge Protector is a great idea for an energy-conscious gift, or to save money for yourself at the office or at home!

5 out of 5 eggsGood Power Strip

Pros: It works well for my settings as I have my xbox, computer, monitor etc connected to it and I keep the wireless switch on top of my table (about 4 to 5 feet away from the power strip). Its a good product and would recommend it. I like the design of both the power strip and the wireless remote.

Cons: None I can see. It does everything I expected out of it.

5 out of 5 eggsNot really cost effective, but sweet.

Pros: simple to use, multi-channeled, and sleek. arrived in 2 days.

Cons: simply the price: the breakeven point may exceed the life of the product, but the convenience for me is worth it.

Other Thoughts: overall: very cool product, just a little expensive for practical use. 5 eggs for newegg, 4 eggs for the product. I round up.

4 out of 5 eggsReality check

Pros: It is convenient! You don't have to get off your couch! It may also lengthen the lifetime of your various wall warts. People who complain about that it needs a "clear path", should realize that all infrared remote controllers work the same way. If you can't live with that, use the "clapper"!

Cons: It uses battery, so all the people who wish to save the environment should not buy it, because 1) batteries must be manufactured, and 2) then eventually discarded in dumps, both of these polluting the environment . If you are that concerned about the environment, you should not use electricity at all, unless you live by a hydroelectric power station or other pollution free source. Get up and go to sleep with the chickens. Watch some shadow plays in the daylight, instead of using your gazillions electronic gadgets. Come to your senses!

Other Thoughts: Let's have some reality check here. The amount of money you'll save on your electric bill will be equal to the amount the devices would use if you wouldn't urn them off! Keeping CMOS chips alive in computers and video devices will save you nothing. But if you turn off your space heater or electric iron with it before you go on vacation, (the thing is rated for 1875 Watts), you'll see a difference!

4 out of 5 eggsGood stuff

Pros: Stops the power stealing equipment from running up your bill. I'm headed into the the summer months so I need all the help I can get. The remote is great and has no problems turning on or off the strip.

Cons: None that I can see

Other Thoughts: Make sure you change the ID of one strip if you buy more than one. I flipped the off switch of one in my room and it turned off the family rool switch. RTFD is what I should have done. Killing the power to my old (nicely modded xbox) makes me have to re-enter the time and date. bummer but if I'm saving money, well worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsSarge

Pros: No complaints the protector.

Cons: None about the protector.

Other Thoughts: Problem with the rebate. Rebate was sent Jan. 26, 2009 and I am still waiting for it. Call rebate center four weeks ago, after getting a card that stated I didn't submit the bar code. Told them that I scan all my rebates and then staple all required items to the rebate sheet. The rep back peddled, and stated that all was well and the check would be in the mail in two to four weeks. The four weeks was up two weeks ago! Called center today and was told that I should get the check by may 12. Called Belkin and they take no responsibility for rebates. Told me it the sellers responsibility. Newegg's support claims it is the manufactures responsibility. DON'T TRUST THE REBATE CLAIMS! I see others have the same problem with rebates offered by Newegg.

3 out of 5 eggsBad battery connection on remote

Pros: Design, value

Cons: out of the box, remote would not work (no blinking LED). After playing with it for 10 minutes, found if the battery was rotated or the right amount of pressure was put on it, it would start working again (but could stop working just as fast). Not too big of a deal for me - it's either a terminal oxidation problem, or maybe the terminal needs to be re-soldered internally. Probably would be a problem for the average Joe though.

Other Thoughts: with a rebate, still can't beat the value.
