Pros: Works with the Microsoft Precision Pro Joystick with some slight modifications and provided the joystick itself was one that originally shipped with a 15-pin to USB adapter. (the earliest production run of the joystick did not have the internal circuitry to run as a USB joystick and did not ship with an adapter)

Other Thoughts: The following was originally posted by a guy calling himself ArcadeAddict. I have found it to be true. Though I used a twist tie with the insulation on the ends stripped off instead of a thin copper electrical wire.

Here is the deal. Shortly after Microsoft started manufacturing their Sidewinder "Precision Pro" joysticks, people began to see the the benefits of USB. Realizing this, Microsoft modified the "Precision Pro" to be USB AND Gameport compatible. They accomplished this by making a simple adapter which "switched" the stick from Gameport mode to USB mode.

Since they have USB electronics inside, the adapter does not need a microchip to convert the output from Gameport to USB. This is product is an aftermarket version of adapter that was included with the Precision Pro. While it is listed as being compatible with other controllers, I have only tested with a Precision Pro.

Many other reviews say that this product does not work. What they mean is that it will not work out of the box. You have to connect two of the Gameport pins together (2 and 7) for it to work. You have three options for doing this. You can connect them inside the stick itself, inside the cable before it connects to the adapter, or just rig up a simple jumper. I recommend the latter because it is the quickest and easiest. Just get some thin, non-insulated wire and tuck it into the holes marked "2" and "7" on the adapter. Then simply push the rest of the wire out of the way so it does not touch any other pins.

While this product requires a bit of work to make it function correctly, the alternative is to build your own adapter from scratch. While it is fairly simple if you know what you are doing, it takes a great deal more effort and is can be quite infuriating if you know little about electronics.

Cons: This item only works with the SIDEWINDER PRECISION PRO joystick and nothing else. It would have been nice to know this before buying it. If you just plug this into a USB port nothing happens. If it were a true adapter the OS would tell you that an adapter has been installed. It dosent. When I plugged my joystick into it it came up with an unknown device and would not function.
