1 out of 5 eggsEvidently NOT FCC Compliant. Do NOT buy if you have a Verizon phone

Pros: Connects a PC with HDMI out to a monitor with DVI out

Cons: One of our users was having LOADS of problems with his Samsung Galaxy S4. After replacing his phone did not help, Verizon sent a technician out to look for interference in our building (I have the identical phone 15 feet from his office with no problems). The tech quickly narrowed the problem down to being related to his PC (powering it off stopped the interference).

After a couple of hours of testing, we finally pinpointed this HDMI to DVI cable as being the culprit. With the technicians scanning equipment (looked like something from Star Trek!), we WATCHED the interference go away completely the instant the cable was disconnected, and come back the instant it was reconnected.

We tried a different brand cable with the same specs in its place, and the interference WAS EVEN WORSE.

We finally put in a plain HDMI cable plus the HDMI to DVI adapter that Dell ships with their Optiplex 3010 SFF’s, and the problem went away completely.

Other Thoughts: The technician explained that noise was being introduced into the frequency band used by the Verizon cell phone tower in our area.

I would NEVER have believed this if I had not WATCHED the scanner show the interference spike with this cable. I have a nearly IDENTICAL PC setup in my office, and an identical phone, but no problems. BUT…My PC had the Dell adapter + HDMI cable. The tech scanned my area, and found NO interference.

The affected user also has an iPhone 4s on AT&T, and it was NOT affected, so it seems the interference was just in a narrow band, but it was in the exact band that Verizon used.

I suppose the point may be moot since this item is deactivated as of this review, BUT – The fact that two different branded (cheap) cables with the same specs (the other was also purchased from Newegg) caused the same interference is not insignificant. Switching to the plain HDMI cable with the Dell provided HDMI to DVI.

Obviously, YMMV.
