5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Work well w/ Vista, free shipping at the time.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I use it on a Vista laptop w/ no serial port to configure Cisco switches, no problems w/ drivers.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks for what I got it for

Pros: I purchased to program an MX-800 universal remote control which had a serial cable, but my laptop did not have a serial port. I'm able to program my remote fine, but it only seems to stay connected for short bursts.

Cons: Connectivity seems spotty at best, and will lose connection over time. A simple unplug/replug always fixes it, but as a long-time solution it is not great.

2 out of 5 eggsVista 64 Not Working

Pros: Price, Supposedly supports Vista 64.

Cons: Doesn't work ... Vista gives error.

Other Thoughts: I downloaded the Vista64 drivers and they install fine. It's just that Vista flags the device unusable for some reason. The web site has ZERO troubleshooting techniques nor does it list the proper install method ... do I install drivers BEFORE plugging it in? Should I plug it in, then point the folder to the downloaded and expanded drivers? If I screw it up, is there a way to clean it out and make it start over? I simply don't know, it simply ain't workin ... and I'm not a happy camper. If anyone has any input on this for Vista 64 installation, please email me ... mike and thats at simtechdata daught c0m.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Gadget for Vista 64!

Pros: This is the only USB to DB-9 serial adaptor that I found that has drivers for Windows Vista 64 and officially supports the OS. I used it to allow my UPS to communicate with my PC and it works flawlessly. Very impressed with it. It has the ability to change the speed of the serial port just like a real serial port! It's also an inexpensive alternative if you need an additional serial port.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The namebrand Keyspan adapter might work, but its driver only has a Windows Vista 32 bit driver available. I e-mailed them to find out if it would work with Vista 64, but no response.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: worked from the first time.
you just have to download the vista driver from rosewill web site which is very easy!

Cons: i gave it a 4 because you have to download the vista driver from the site . but all other supported OS drivers are shipped with the cable on a mini disc

Other Thoughts: i used it with a PDA so i don't know how it will preform under other conditions or OS.
Shipping is fast.
a very large box for such a small product a waste of resources!

2 out of 5 eggsNot good for all equipment

Pros: Inexpensive and small

Cons: Did not work reliably under Linux when connected to my AVR project. After a short time a USB disconnect message would show up in dmesg.

4 out of 5 eggsDriver may be faulty

Pros: Cheap solution for a serial device.

Cons: It worked intermittently at first when installed with the driver disc supplied. Then I reinstalled the driver using the CD that came with a Cables to Go adapter. The adapters looked identical. Now it is working fine. Thats why I gave 4 instead of 5.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if the first driver install went sour or the drivers on the CD are faulty. Didn't bother to investigate further. Running XP Pro sp2 on a Shuttle XPC.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: None

Cons: Did not work. We bought 10 of these to use and our equipment had trouble working with these.

Other Thoughts: I recommend the Airlink 101 USB to Serial adapters if your wanting to go on the cheap end. Keyspan if you can afford them.
