3 out of 5 eggsRosewill RCW-605

Pros: Rosewill and NewEgg replaced my defective unit immediately after they were notified. Both companies are super to deal with and very responsible.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality and Poor Detection

Pros: None

Cons: I bought this product to test Hard Drives. I threw away the first SATA drive it did not recognize thinking it was bad. When it did not recognize 5 IDE Drives, I looked further and installed them in a competitor's USB HD box. All were recognized. Unfortunately, with the policy at NewEgg, I cannot get my money back but instead must take another one of these flimsy made and poor performing products. I have advised Rosewill that I will not open the box but sell it at at garage sale instead. I am going to buy something from someone else from NewEgg instead!

Other Thoughts: Waiting on comments from Rosewill and replacement from NewEgg. Maybe they will substitute the RCW-608 in place of the RCW-605 which is flimsy made? NewEgg is great to deal with and I am sure as always, they will take care of the problem.

1 out of 5 eggsFail

Pros: Cord has power button.

Cons: Doesn't frippin work.

Other Thoughts: Just plain didn't see my SATA drive. No problems w/ Vantec adapter whatsoever. I had set drive to SATA1 so it's super compatible. Still didn't work.

3 out of 5 eggsCan be useful, can be a pain...

Pros: Easy access to a drive for quick diagnostics

Cons: Doesn't always work as it should

Other Thoughts: Sometimes the converter just plain won't work. Perhaps mine's flawed or something, I don't know. I've yet to test out the SATA connection, but both IDE plugs can be iffy at times. It seems to work best if you plug it to the drive, then to the computer, THEN power it up. However, it's still not a sure thing...

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well, once you figure it out

Pros: Works, and if connected to a 2.0 port, works really quick. HD shows up as an external device. Works in Linux and FreeBSD.

Cons: Interferes with AM radio stations. If you need to switch hard drives and don't want to reboot your OS, you have to unplug the usb, turn off power, unplug IDE. Then plug in new HD and turn on, plug in IDE, THEN plug in the USB.

Other Thoughts: You can't boot from this device, even if your mother board supports usb drive booting.

5 out of 5 eggsVery useful adapter

Pros: Works for all hard disks that I've tried, including 2.5" IDE, 3.5" IDE, 2.5" SATA, and 3.5" SATA.

Cons: 2.5" SATA HDDs require use of the separate power supply, which is a bit annoying since these drives can be powered over USB. 2.5" IDE HDDs, however, are powered over USB.

Other Thoughts: If you're a PC technician, you must get one of these.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great device. Very easy and inexpensive way to connect most drives without having to mount in your computer or in an external case. Uses USB 2.0 interface so no software is needed.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: A terrific way of offloading data from old or spare hard drives or just checking what's on them. Everyone should own one!
