1 out of 5 eggsDont bother

Pros: None

Cons: Reversed pins?

Other Thoughts: I got 2 of these and they are the reverse of the IDE female. Useless tech. I was robbed. 1 star because I could not indicate "none"...

5 out of 5 eggsIt works as intended

Pros: It plugged in and worked, I mean, there's really not a whole lot to go wrong here.

Cons: It was slightly difficult to plug in the first time, but after that "break in" it worked perfectly fine from then on.

Other Thoughts: I just bought this to retrieve some data off a few very old drives, it performed that job flawlessly, so where is my room to complain?

1 out of 5 eggsPin was broke on arrival

Pros: none

Cons: Power adapter wires were cheaply soldered to the adapter. The negative wire solder joint broke at the softest touch.

I don't recommend buying this adapter.

1 out of 5 eggsBad solder joints

Pros: It works now that I've fixed it.

Cons: It didn't work, I found six bad solder joints on the 2.5" side of this adapter. Had to break out the soldering iron to fix them... they looked like they had no solder on them at all and the entire thing looks sloppy, it must have been hand done. It's working now that I've soldered those six pins.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: *Inexpensive
*Works as Advertised
*Free Shipping

Cons: The power leads were loose inside the connector and the wires don't seem secure in the connector either. I was still able to connect the opposite power connector from the hard drive to the adapter by pulling the power wires tightly into the bottom of the connector.

Other Thoughts: This product doesn't seem like it is made for use with multiple hard drives. If you are looking to hook it up to a laptop hard drive for the long term or perform a single data recovery operation then this product will do the trick.

4 out of 5 eggsFlimsy but works

Pros: *Inexpensive
*Works as advertised
*Free Shipping

Cons: Power leads are loose inside the connector. The wires don't seem secured properly. Although I was still able to make it work by pulling the power wires tightly as inserted the opposite power connector.

Other Thoughts: Don't expect to be swapping this product with multiple hard drives, but if you are just looking to hook it up to a single hard drive for the long term or perform data recovery once on a lap top hard drive this item will do the job. and for the price it can't be beat.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap. Works.

Pros: It's cheap, it works, and it got the job done. See "Other thoughts".

Cons: Not really meant for heavy repeated use, but will last if you take care of it.

Other Thoughts: This was purchased several years ago for a specific data recovery task off an old laptop, that of course still used an IDE HDD. I did not have a docking station or external enclosure at the time that could handle 2.5" IDE drives, and I wanted something cheap since I figured it would only ever get used a few times before being delegated to the junk box since IDE is dead.

I really don't work much with older laptops any longer, but it does come up from time to time, often just for pulling data off dead laptops for transfer to a newer model.

It worked wonderfully for the task at hand, and then it got tossed into my toolbox where it sat, only being dug out a few times over the past 4 years for other data recovery needs.

I just used it again a few days ago for yet another data recovery situation with an old dead laptop. It still worked great, and it actually reminded me to do this review.

With IDE long since abandoned, I would only recommend one of these IF you have the need to connect an old 2.5" IDE HDD to a 3.5" IDE interface, In my case I use it in an old external enclosure.

If for some reason you're going to be doing a lot of swapping of old IDE HDDs, such as for data recovery, I suggest a docking station, enclosure, or other USB converter that's a bit more robust.

It's held up 4+ years, and it does work, so I would easily recommend this to those who find themselves in a situation requiring such an adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm!

Pros: Allows you to connect a 2.5" IDE drive to a 3.5" IDE header. This will allow you to mount a laptop HDD into a desktop, and scan for viruses, recover data, wipe the drive, etc.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I tried using this with a PATA to SATA adapter, and it would not work. I think the problem is with the adapter, not this part.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: There's not really much to this - it's just a one to one pin converter. I'm using this on a newer 2.5" IDE SSD drive I began using in an older laptop. When the laptop died, I moved the drive to a desktop machine.

Cons: None
