2 out of 5 eggsUpdate for Last Review

Pros: This unit has been replaced.

Cons: Price is still outragious as I paided half as much as it's advertised for now. I still recommend avoiding this perticular unit as the buttons where just not made to last.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to update my last review. After research across the net this units "Button Failure" is a known issue. Tends to show up a year or so after purchase.

That said dealing with TrippLite to get a replacement unit was very easy and they replaced it with another product to hopefully avoid this issue in the future. So even though I again give it 2 stars, thats for this product and not the company.

Overall Tripplite customer service was exceptional and the defective unit was replaced with a better model and I thank the Manufactures response to my last review.

2 out of 5 eggsButton Failure

Pros: Small footprint but not made to hold heavy monitors.

Cons: Works well when new but has issues with the buttons after awhile.

Other Thoughts: I bought this unit in 2009 and I'm now looking for a replacement. After 2 years of use the main power button "pops out" on it's own intermittently which powers every device connected to it "OFF".

The price of this unit should be question as when I purchased it in 2009 it was less then half the cost they are advertiseing now. I doubt it's worth over twice as much now as I paid for it back then.

Manufacturer Response:

Please note that the TMC-6 comes with a lifetime warranty. Please contact Tripp Lite’s Chicago-based Tech Support Team at 773-869-1234 and they will be happy to troubleshoot the issue you are having or provide a replacement unit if required.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Individual switches for each plug.
Indicator Lights for each switch.
Indicator lights for wiring status and Surge Protection.

Cons: Outer shell made of plastic, although it is sturdier than it appears.
Sockets are spaced fairly close together.

Other Thoughts: The older unit was a solid metal unit. I think I liked that a bit better.
THe LED for indicating the Surge protection is working is green, which is correct/good. But the LED for indicating the Wiring Status is a Red LED, which when lit means its working/good....but seems counter intuative. Should have just used 2 green LEDs. THe red LED makes you think its bad, but its not. It just needs to be lit. Lit is good. Off is BAD.

5 out of 5 eggsI like it.

Pros: First off, it's actually rated at 1850 joules and not 1440, so that was a pleasant surprise. The individual power buttons are a nice touch and putting this under a monitor gives you quick and easy access. 6 outlets is enough for most computer setups. The build quality seems solid enough, though I wouldn't put anything bigger then a 24" monitor on top of this for balance reasons. The right angle power plug is handy.

Cons: So far so good. I wouldn't say it's cheaply made, but the plastic casing might give that impression. I found it to be rather sturdy, enough to hold a 17" CRT I bet. The springs on the switches are not as firm as I would like, but they don't feel super cheap either.

Other Thoughts: It's kind of a niche/dated item, having a power strip under the monitor reminds me of the beige desktops of the 80's and early 90's, so getting this is really a matter of style. Overall, I think this product represents a good value for the price.

4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad power strip

Pros: Small footprint and moves your power options to your desktop.

Cons: Seams a little cheaply made to me

Other Thoughts: I have an older "Power Comm 3000" that I have been using for about 14 years and it's a workhorse. I used to have a 21 inch monitor that was like 110 pounds on top of the unit.

For this Tripp lite model I would recommend to watch the size of your LCD. I would trust it up to a 24" LCD....but I won't trust it on anything above that. Also be aware if your monitor has a 'Flimsy' stand (and some do) it may be tip over if jolted hard by a kid or something.
