Tripp Lite TMC-6 Touch Master & Design®-Series Protect It!® Surge Protector Description

It could happen in the blink of an eye: a sudden power surge that damages or destroys your valuable electronics. And even if a catastrophic surge never strikes, smaller power fluctuations and electromagnetic line noise can cause incremental hardware damage and performance problems, and corrupt or erase important data. The solution to protect your electronic components from surge damage and performance problems? Tripp Lite’s TMC-6 Touch Master & Design®-Series Protect It!® Surge Protector. This premium surge protector provides the best protection available for your PC and all electronics in a convenient, space-saving, under-monitor format. It features a high 1440-joule surge suppression rating—more joules mean more protection for your valuable components! The TMC-6 also features EMI/RFI line noise filtering that prevents interference from degrading component performance, helping to ensure that your equipment performs at its peak.

Versatile Protection for PCs and All Electronics

Features

Key Features

Versatile Protection for PCs and All Electronics
The TMC-6 offers premium surge protection for PCs and all electronics. It provides six 5-15R outlets, including four that are equipped with their own individual switches, plus single-line tel/DSL line surge protection. Its low-profile, under-monitor design makes the TMC-6 easy to integrate into any home or office PC setup. A 6ft cord enables connection to a distant wall outlet, and a space-saving, right-angle 5-15P plug allows furniture to be placed flush against the wall.

Reliable AC Line Surge Suppression
More joules mean more protection, and the TMC-6 delivers with a high 1440-joule surge protection rating. And compared with other surge suppressors, the TMC-6 provides a substantially larger and more robust component array to provide an effective, multi-layered defense against damaging power surges.

Improved Component Performance

Improved Component Performance
Various electromagnetic and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and performance problems. The TMC-6 incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment, and helping to ensure peak performance.

Phone Line Protection

Phone Line Protection
Phone connections represent a potential back door through which a damaging surge could reach your equipment. The TMC-6 includes one set of built-in tel/DSL (RJ11) jacks to prevent surges from damaging your computer, fax or modem (one 6-ft. RJ11 phone cord included).

Individually Controllable Outlets

Individually Controllable Outlets
The TMC-6 provides a total of six AC outlets—ample capacity for a desktop computer setup. Four of the outlets are individually controllable with their own On/Off switches. A Master On/Off switch controls these outlets plus one additional outlet. The remaining outlet is "always on"—ideal for components such as fax machines that need to remain powered at all times. This highly controllable outlet array gives you maximum flexibility in determining which components receive power.

Built-In Diagnostic Capabilities

Built-In Diagnostic Capabilities
The TMC-6 features six diagnostic LEDs. Two confirm safe grounding and active surge protection, and the remaining five indicate that AC power is available at the outlets.

Low-Profile Design
The TMC-6’s space-saving, low-profile design integrates easily into your home or office computer setup. It installs neatly under the monitor, so that power switches are readily accessible and diagnostic LEDs are easily visible.

Lifetime Warranty and Environmentally Responsible Design

Lifetime Warranty and Environmentally Responsible Design
The TMC-6 is manufactured in compliance with strict RoHS specifications, reflecting Tripp Lite’s commitment to environmental responsibility. For peace of mind, it comes backed by a lifetime warranty and $50,000 of Ultimate Lifetime Insurance for connected equipment.

5 out of 5 eggsEntiely Satisfied!

Pros: Device comes with 4 switched and 2 unswitched outlets that are widely spaced to prevent plugs interfering with each other. It's thin, compact design doesn't take up much space on my desk either.

Cons: Because it is thin if you are using it for devices with "wall-warts" like I am such as a cable modem or print server, you'll want to buy "pigtail" extension cords because there is not enough space to allow large AC adaptors to be plugged in directly to this device. A very small price to pay though.

Other Thoughts: Overall an excellent device, I have been using two of these on my workbench for more than three years now and have had zero problems.

With the addition of some short pigtails I use one for all of my networking devices. This provides the addition benefit of an available power switch for these devices keeping me from having to fidgit with unplugging them just to reset. A small thing perhaps, but useful to me.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate for Last Review

Pros: This unit has been replaced.

Cons: Price is still outragious as I paided half as much as it's advertised for now. I still recommend avoiding this perticular unit as the buttons where just not made to last.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to update my last review. After research across the net this units "Button Failure" is a known issue. Tends to show up a year or so after purchase.

That said dealing with TrippLite to get a replacement unit was very easy and they replaced it with another product to hopefully avoid this issue in the future. So even though I again give it 2 stars, thats for this product and not the company.

Overall Tripplite customer service was exceptional and the defective unit was replaced with a better model and I thank the Manufactures response to my last review.

2 out of 5 eggsButton Failure

Pros: Small footprint but not made to hold heavy monitors.

Cons: Works well when new but has issues with the buttons after awhile.

Other Thoughts: I bought this unit in 2009 and I'm now looking for a replacement. After 2 years of use the main power button "pops out" on it's own intermittently which powers every device connected to it "OFF".

The price of this unit should be question as when I purchased it in 2009 it was less then half the cost they are advertiseing now. I doubt it's worth over twice as much now as I paid for it back then.

Manufacturer Response:

Please note that the TMC-6 comes with a lifetime warranty. Please contact Tripp Lite’s Chicago-based Tech Support Team at 773-869-1234 and they will be happy to troubleshoot the issue you are having or provide a replacement unit if required.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Individual switches for each plug.
Indicator Lights for each switch.
Indicator lights for wiring status and Surge Protection.

Cons: Outer shell made of plastic, although it is sturdier than it appears.
Sockets are spaced fairly close together.

Other Thoughts: The older unit was a solid metal unit. I think I liked that a bit better.
THe LED for indicating the Surge protection is working is green, which is correct/good. But the LED for indicating the Wiring Status is a Red LED, which when lit means its working/good....but seems counter intuative. Should have just used 2 green LEDs. THe red LED makes you think its bad, but its not. It just needs to be lit. Lit is good. Off is BAD.

5 out of 5 eggsI like it.

Pros: First off, it's actually rated at 1850 joules and not 1440, so that was a pleasant surprise. The individual power buttons are a nice touch and putting this under a monitor gives you quick and easy access. 6 outlets is enough for most computer setups. The build quality seems solid enough, though I wouldn't put anything bigger then a 24" monitor on top of this for balance reasons. The right angle power plug is handy.

Cons: So far so good. I wouldn't say it's cheaply made, but the plastic casing might give that impression. I found it to be rather sturdy, enough to hold a 17" CRT I bet. The springs on the switches are not as firm as I would like, but they don't feel super cheap either.

Other Thoughts: It's kind of a niche/dated item, having a power strip under the monitor reminds me of the beige desktops of the 80's and early 90's, so getting this is really a matter of style. Overall, I think this product represents a good value for the price.

4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad power strip

Pros: Small footprint and moves your power options to your desktop.

Cons: Seams a little cheaply made to me

Other Thoughts: I have an older "Power Comm 3000" that I have been using for about 14 years and it's a workhorse. I used to have a 21 inch monitor that was like 110 pounds on top of the unit.

For this Tripp lite model I would recommend to watch the size of your LCD. I would trust it up to a 24" LCD....but I won't trust it on anything above that. Also be aware if your monitor has a 'Flimsy' stand (and some do) it may be tip over if jolted hard by a kid or something.
