1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work

Pros: None.

Cons: Non functioning.

Other Thoughts: I tried everything to get my IDE CD drive to work with my SATA motherboard. I set the jumper to Master. My computer never even recognized it, other that getting a strange error message at boot.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Saved me from buying a new hard drive for extra stuff. Works perfect after you figure it out. Nice product.

Cons: Takes up extra space in smaller cases.

Other Thoughts: I put this on a 300Gb IDE Maxtor. I have a SSD as my boot drive with OS. This is just extra drive for media etc. It would not let computer boot until I put jumper as MASTER. Even though I'm using it as second drive it still had to be on master. Hope this helps someone save time.

1 out of 5 eggsNot recommended

Pros: Its a nice blue color.

Cons: Doesn't work. Wasted several hours trying to get this thing to do anything. All I managed is to have the bios briefly see my HD. Never appeared in the OS and disappeared again after a restart. Tried all the suggested fixes and on multiple HDs, nothing. Either mine is defective or the product is now outdated. Either way it costs too must to return it, so its a complete waste of my money.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks most of the time

Pros: Some of my old IDE drives will work with this.

Cons: Some of my old drives will not. Make sure you have at least one SATA hard drive if your mobo does not support IDE, I wasn't able to make any of my IDE drives bootable using this adapter.

Other Thoughts: My tower is a Gigabyte Aurora, the HD mounts sideways and with this adapter the door will not fit, only practical to use it for disk drives unless I want to leave my side door off. Seems a bit overpriced for what you get.

Manufacturer Response:

Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please help verify while connecting the SATA data cable to a different SATA receptacle on the motherboard, connecting the TU-IDES to a different IDE power connector on your computer, and/or connecting a different IDE device to the TU-IDES. If you still have issue please contact us at sales@trendnet.com, reference "New Egg product review" and Sr. technical personnel will contact you immediately to help. We look forward to working with you directly and restoring your faith in TRENDnet products.

Warmest regards,

TRENDnet Sales Team

4 out of 5 eggsWorked Under Windows 7-64 Bit

Pros: I got one of these to connect my BenQ DW1655 DVD-RW drive to my Asus Rampage III Formula motherboard (to an ICH10R port under Windows 7 64-Bit).

So far, this seems to work great (except for a few issues below). So far the fastest burning speed I've tried is 8X, and that works o.k.

Cons: The adapter comes with a SATA cable, but I wanted to use one that came with my motherboard. This has a metal retainer clip and wouldn't fit in to the adapter.

Also, my motherboards BIOS has the SATA ports set to AHCI mode (instead of IDE emulation). With this setup, I can't boot from the drive connected by this adapter.

I was able to boot the attached drive with the BIOS mode set to IDE though...

Other Thoughts: Overall, a nice package (with the mentioned limitations). It's relatively small and comes with a 'Y' power cable to power the adapter and the drive. It needs a 4-Pin Power connector though.

If you only have SATA Power cables in your system you'll need a power adapter (which you would need anyway to power the drive by itself).

5 out of 5 eggsIt Works!

Pros: Worked first time, added CD/DVD IDE burner to SATA controller on Gigbyte Mobo. Small size, plugs right into back of drive and SATA cable length is more than adequate. Y-power connect is a plus, plugging into one standard 4 pin molex from power supply and providing power to the adapter and drive.

Cons: Cost, didn't buy it a NewEgg!

Other Thoughts: Didn't work second time, but I had switched Master/Slave jumper on the drive to use temporarily as IDE Slave and didn't put it back to Master. My bad, switched the jumper to master and it worked again. It is so easy to overlook a detail like this and think something has gone wrong with a new device. Do not consider this a Con, but rather cockpit error.
