5 out of 5 eggsSabrent Parallel to USB Cable

Pros: Works great with Windows 8 and my HP Laserjet 6L, however, I had to perform the following steps first:
1. Control Panel - Devices and Printers
2. Click on "Add a Printer"
3. Click on "The printer that I want isn't listed"
4. For USB connection, choose "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings"
5. Pick an existing port. I use a cable that has LPT port at one end, USB at the other end. So my choice is USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB)
6. Now you see the list of manufacturers and models. Before doing anything, click on "Windows Update" and let it run (takes a few minutes)
7. Once the update is complete and you're back to the list of manufacturers and models, select HP as the model, and select HP LaserJet 6L as the printer. Without Windows Update, it will only show "HP LaserJet 6L PS Class Driver", which causes the problem. Stick to "HP LaserJet 6L"
8. The rest is straight forward. Print a test page and check if it comes out right. Good luck!!

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 2.0 to centronics 36 pin adapter

Pros: connects to USB 2.0 and 36 pin Centronics connectors.

Cons: Doesn't work with HP LaserJet 6 MP even after updating the driver to USB. Could not print even a test page. Error in Que. Error in printing. No information ever made it to the printer to turn on at least one (1) light.

Other Thoughts: What a disappointment!

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: Did not work for me. There is a very short list of compatible printers you can get from HP laserjet 5 is not on the list and they don't provide support if your printer is not on the list.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy if you don't have a printer on the short list.

5 out of 5 eggsNot for 26-pin Printer Cables

Pros: Quality looks fine - well built.

Cons: Not for 26-pin printer cables.

Other Thoughts: Didn't realize there are different types of parallel port cables. Count your pins and look closely at the photos of this item to make sure it will match with what you have.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Worked perfectly for an old 7 yr old laser print I had. All I had to do was connect it and Windows 7 x64 automatically recognized it and installed its own drivers directly from the web. I was ready to go in <5 min.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks very well in Windows 7 x64

Pros: Works as expected and without any issues in Windows 7 x64 and an old HP LaserJet 5M printer.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Hint: First connect this adapter alone to your PC's USB port without connecting to your printer. Wait till your PC recognizes it and finishes installing the drivers, this is done automatically with you doing anything.
Then connect it to your printer and its drivers get to be installed automatically as well. My HP 5M printer got running in a very short time.
Highly recommended and easy to use if done as I described.
