5 out of 5 eggsWorked as advertised

Pros: It did what it said it would do.

I wanted to add a BluRay drive to my Mac Pro in the way back when of 2009 and the built in optical drives were still IDE. It worked perfectly.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It allowed my old Mac Pro to use a new BluRay drive on both OSX and Windows.

That was the only thing I used it for and to this day it still works as such.

3 out of 5 eggsDVD Drive Incompatible

Pros: Tiny, an easy fit. Jumper settings are clearly marked. I'm sure it works well with SATA HDDs. The combined data/power SATA coupler is pretty clever.

Cons: Does not function well with my SATA DVD drive. When reading disks, every 10-15 seconds it freezes. The drive acts as if it is catching up. I'm guessing this card was not designed for use with anything other than hard drives.

Other Thoughts: Tested it with old SATA drive, it DOES work. However, if you buy it for a purpose other than advertised for, such as DVD drives, don't expect it to work.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Small compact size.

Cons: Tried every jumper configuration possible. Went through two of these devices and neither worked with the jumper configuration. Hard drives either reported Unable to Read Disk or a corrupt Windows Instalation. Doesn't work with Rosewill RC-A-SATA-IDE SATA to IDE Adapter... Which is what I wanted to buy in the first place.

Other Thoughts: The jumper configuration diagram on the board is confusing and gives conflicting information... It is a shame that the Rosewill RC-A-SATA-IDE SATA to IDE Adapter is not available anymore. I purchased this one because I thought it was the same.

1 out of 5 eggsPort Mini Converter

Pros: Cheap. You get what you pay for. Newegg makes $2.25 for throwing it in the trash.

Cons: Absolutely a piece of junk. Item was handled carefully including static discharge before installation.

Other Thoughts: This was an inexpensive item for lesson learned. It would be very expensive to order a high dollar item from Newegg and then having to return it. Newegg wins if the item works or if it doesn't.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Design

Pros: Quality materials but needs improvement.

Cons: Bought two and could not get either to function without locking up computers. Also has no instructions. IDE connection is naked pins which easily get bent.

Other Thoughts: IDE connection should have a shroud to cover and protect pins. A keyed shroud would make the connection dummy proof for the less technically minded.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have a couple of older computers I keep around just to tinker with. This worked fine connecting an old WD Caviar drive to an even older beige G3.

Cons: The pics all fit well, but the device it fairly delicate. Playing around with the G3 bit, I removed and installed the device a few times over without any issues, but it needs to be done carefully. On the sata side, I need to gently use a thin blade to wedge the device apart from the drive.

I leave the drive jumper-less and use the jumpers on the board.

Other Thoughts: It seems like the reviews are really at odds here. It might be a problem inherent in hardware adapters, and just getting old, incompatible hardware to work together. Or, perhaps there really is a problem with with them manufacturing this product consistenly. I really can't say for sure since I own only one.

1 out of 5 eggsWARNING - DANGEROUS

Pros: 1. Passes all SMART data to smartmontools: ID, Data and error/self-test logs

2. 92.3 MB/s (ATA100/133 speed) max burst rate HD Tach

3. Pass-through Molex (M/F)

4. Red power LED

Cons: 1. UDMA CRC errors, UDMA Mode 5 collapsed to PIO transfer mode, errors on drive

2. exposed IDE header pins, no keyed shroud

3. IDE header pin has one knockout pin, only works if cable has pin plug (which many don't)

4. Jumper pins clearly if unusually marked (MA/SL/CS), but subject to error anyway

5. Sensitive to jumper settings -- SL was UDMA 2, had to set to MA to get UDMA 5

Other Thoughts: Can confirm errors reported by others. This device ran the error count up to 139 on my Hitachi 2 TB drive before I called it quits (Hitachi HDS5C3020ALA632). Don't know if it will work with another drive on the same IDE channel -- too dangerous to retest, re-qualify. Worst errors of any CCBA device tested. Mystery chipset.

3 out of 5 eggsTech Guy

Pros: It works

Cons: 12v power splitter sucks. I have owned a couple of these and it never fails that the 4 pin 12v power splitter falls apart. I end up usually soldering it back together a few times before buying a new one. Also the IDE 40 pins on the circuit board short out on the hard drives unless you cover the board with electrical tape.
