5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Installed and worked right away.

Cons: Price? Was more than I paid for a Syba version, but the Syba was junk. It was worth the few extra $$

5 out of 5 eggsSabrent USB to Serial Cable

Pros: Works with Win8.1 64bit. Plugged it in the HP Envy laptop and within seconds it was ready to go. Tested with a radio controlled by a Windows program and it worked flawlessly.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Many cables will work with Win7 but it does not mean that it will work with Win8. This one does work.

5 out of 5 eggsBest USB to Serial

Pros: No headaches with this. Go to the FTDI site to download the VCP drivers and it works perfectly. I use this mainly for Cisco console connections and it has been flawless. Win 7 32/64 bit.
It's not prolific based (huge pro)

Cons: None. Takes the pain out of trying to grab the correct driver for these things.

Other Thoughts: Other generic usb to serials in the past don't seem to print their brand name or model number on the cable. Sabrent actually puts their name on it. Probably because they're proud of their device haha.

5 out of 5 eggsPlug and play

Pros: Plugged into a Windows 7 x64 laptop and Windows updates automatically downloaded drivers. Device Mangler shows this as an FTDI HCL driver dated 1/27/14.

Cons: None - it's a usb to serial port connector acting like a usb to serial port connector.

Other Thoughts: Purchased to connect a Cisco console port to my Lenovo X1 Carbon.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Like the title says, it works.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I had a prolific based USB to serial cable that had been working fine. Then Windows installed an updated driver and it no longer worked with my equipment. Got this one today, plugged it in, loaded the driver and my equipment is working again. Simple as that. Avoid prolific and spend the extra money to get this, it will save you a lot of grief.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great so far.

Pros: Plug and play for Windows7 64bit on a DELL E6400 laptop. Nice addition to the toolkit.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I use this cable on a DELL E6400 laptop to configure to Brocade FC switches using Windows7 64bit and PuTTY.

I plugged it in and it showed up on COM7. I did not need to load drivers from the included disc.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfect, won't buy any others

Pros: Device works perfectly. When programming an older Mitsubishi HMI via RS232, it was even able to automatically switch the unit into programming mode. This is something that other adapters have not been able to do for me.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for the same reason that most do; new laptop with no native COM port. These adapters are worth more than their weight in gold when working with out-dated automation equipment. I've recommended this particular unit to several others because of the success I've had. I will never buy one with the Prolific chip again; FTDI is it for me.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works right out of the box for windows 7. Plug it in, Windows automatically installs the drivers, and it works.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Windows automatically installed drivers. Connected to console cable and it works fine with Cisco equipment.
