Other Thoughts: Moved a hard disk to a new computer with no serial port. Ubuntu worked great once I got rid of the obsolete NVidia drivers. But UPS monitoring needed a serial port so I plugged in this cable and it came up as ttyUSB0. Edited the UPS config file from ttyS0 to ttyUSB0, started the service, and it all works.
