4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well, Speed A Little Slow

Pros: Small enough for use carrying to multiple locations, works consistently, works with every drive I have plugged into it (even ones that were dead it found and tried to access), worked with Xbox 360

Cons: Gets quite hot after extended use, power adapters are not a perfect fit, a little slow for USB 3.0 (maximum transfer speed achieved was ~15MB/sec I have had my EZ Dock achieve 122MB/sec)

Other Thoughts: Honestly, this adapter has been a life saver. Pulled 5 HDDs out of a tower with a fried motherboard and it found them all. Most of the HDDs came up initially as invalid in the windows disk manager and this let me use test disk to fix them without losing any files and access them on my new PC. As an added bonus I was able to take the adapter and hook a FAT32 formatted 2TB Hard Drive with movies on it and hook it up to my 360. I did not buy through Newegg, because it was on sale elsewhere, but the reviews made me wary. It does not fix drives for you but it does allow you to access them.

1 out of 5 eggsEnds up being useless everytime I try and use it.

Pros: Great when it works... usb 3.0 speeds, on/off power switch for the power line. Blue led's (sucker for blue).

Cons: Not reliable at all, the device doesn't read many hard drives that my previous usb 2.0 did without issue. Doesn't report smart information like my usb 2.0 device did. I'm frequently having to use the older 2.0 model to get my drives to read properly.

Other Thoughts: I had an off brand USB2.0 to IDE & SATA Cable device prior to this. As the times change you upgrade to the newer technologies. In this case it was USB 3.0, happened to be in a local store and decided to give this a go. I DO NOT recommend this product. Look elsewhere people. I replaced mine twice hoping for a better result. No go.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks with MAC OSX mavericks - thunderbolt display ONLY

Pros: works

Cons: I can use to get the files I need but only if connected to the USB port on my thunderbolt display. It is NOT recognized when plugged directly into my macbook pro (running mavericks).

So it is "sort of" compatible with OSX

1 out of 5 eggsBought Retail - DOA

Pros: None

Cons: DOA. Power light lights up upon plugging it into USB port however it is never recognized as a USB device on multiple different computers with Win XP, Vista, and Win 7 installs

Other Thoughts: Power supply with switch on molex power connector is a nice touch and everything in the box looked well made. Apparently got a DOA.

5 out of 5 eggsSabrent USB-DSC8

Pros: USB 3.0, SATA/IDE in one device.
transferred 32GB of Steam backups in around 20 minutes to an 3.5" 40GB IDE HDD.
See other thoughts.

Cons: Files on a windows XP HDD are in accessible on windows 7. This is not the fault of the adapter however. But of Windows. So no eggs taken for that.

Other Thoughts: I have nothing to compare the speed to but I feel like 20 minutes for 32 GB is very good since my 8GB USB 2.0 Thumb drive takes around 15 mins to move around 7 GB's.

Also if you're using the old IDE drives be sure to set the pins so that it is a master drive. I've almost pulled my hair out over this several times.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks great in Windows, don't buy for Mac

Pros: Works smoothly and quickly in Windows.

Cons: Does not work at all in Mac OS

Other Thoughts: Was only able to test mac compatibility in Mountain Lion (it may work on older versions of Mac OS but I really don't care because I want the speed of USB3) - The box indicates Mac OS compatibility but absolutely nothing happens when connected to my retina Macbook Pro (the only mac I have with USB 3.0 ports). Same computer and USB port, running Win 7, and it works beautifully. I noticed that despite the package showing Mac OS compatibility, Sabrent has removed the Mac OS logo from the item's description on their website.
