Must-have tool for PC builders/techs

Pros: (1) Compact all-in-one.
(2) Both IDE and SATA connectors.
(3) Unique design with 3.5" and 2.5" IDE connectors. No 40-to-44 pin adapter cable to carry/forget like other solutions.
(4) Green power LED, red access LED more visible than BT-200's internal red LED that lights the cord.
(5) Hot swap SATA on the device.
(6) Cool 4-pin molex power adapter included.

Cons: (1) Sporactically disconnects.
(2) USB must be plugged in last for IDE (won't work if USB plugged in first or still plugged in from last use).
(3) SATA connector partially blocks power to IDE drives if power is directly next to header (typically on CD/DVD drives and removable IDE cages). Still connects, but torques both the power and the BT-300.
(4) Squishy case might not protect inards if you keep this loose in your bag.
(5) Thin, flimsy USB cable.
(6) Slightly larger than BT-200 (but still revolutionarily compact).

Other Thoughts: Finally! A SATA version! With this in my bag, I can troubleshoot just about any drive at my clients' sites.

Kinda wish the unit had a mini-USB plug instead of a built-in cord so I could use my own cables (which I already carry around). Of course, that one time I forget my cable... :)

Pros: As one of the buyer wrote: If you want to risk frying your drive, buy this. But this comment is actually not precise it doesn't fry it smokes. At least in my case - although I when I saw a smoke. I unplug it immediately.
The cute thing is it works one or twice smoked brand new and tested SATA HDD work again burned another brand new HDD ect. If you like an adapter that sometimes works and sometimes smokes - this is the perfect choice

Cons: After testing the unit I bought, I can verify to other numerous buyers accounts of frying the HDDs. In my case these were brand new 160 Samsung SATA 3.5' drives (different models) previously tested.I burned only 2 HDD and I will stop here as I don't want to have my HDD RMA package heavy.
Additionally the soldiering on circuit board is of very low quality.
Prior to purchase I send to Bytecc inquiry about the product. I have never received any reply.

Other Thoughts: I am PC technician in Israel. There is a lot of low quality PC equpment over here. Often when I make the orders in US I am under the impression that equpment sold in US always has to be of higher quality.
To my partial relief I realized that my impression may be not correct. After all globalization makes some balance.

Pros: This is one indispensible tool! I find myself using it all the time for any and all data access/recovery needs...

Cons: NONE!!!

Other Thoughts: I have had this roughed-around in my tool bag for over 2 years with no issues of performance. I make use of all three interfaces where each have been very reliable...

Pros: I've owned the USB 1 (no longer and available) and USB 2.0 for years. This is a must to have if you work with laptop/desktop hard drives outside the case... Works with any OS... Linux (all flavors), Windows 98 and up, Sun, you name it...

Cons: The cable is not short, but my desk is huge... So I like to plug-in a usb extension cable.... This is not a con, just thought I'd mention it...

Other Thoughts: I don't understand why this did not get 5 stars from everyone else. Just remember if you are plugging in to a windows computer, plug the device into the drive with the power first, then plugin the usb into your computer... No need to reboot, give a second and it'll popup as an external drive...

I'm not giving this away as IT presents each year to all my IT bros... After they work with it a couple of days, they tell me they don't know how they ever lived without it...

Pros: I use these adapters for everything from data destruction, HD imaging, external cd roms, external hdd. You name it.

Cons: Driver sometimes hangs

Other Thoughts: Always remember to make IDE drives master. And to connect drive first then power up, then attach USB to pc. If it does not auto recognize repeat with different USB port
