Pros: Works fine if you do not stress it by switching programs on the laptop.

Cons: Closing a program brings immediate hard crash. Sometimes loads a jpg, sometimes not. Hot swap = crash.

Other Thoughts: I am running this to a Viewsonic projector. Perhaps this device cannot handle that.

Also, disabling hardware acceleration may help improve performance. Hardware acceleration causes programs to use the graphics card, in this case the adapter, for processing and displaying all the images on the screen, which can lead to performance issues. To avoid these problems, it is best to disable hardware acceleration in applicable programs, so the computer’s processor can handle this processing. Pros: price, features (resolution, good graphics), ease of installation & use

Other Thoughts: Most laptops will support one additional display (vga or hdmi) in addition to the built-in display; some of the newer ones will support both a vga display & an hdmi display in addition to the built-in one.
Most desktop video cards (built-in to the motherboard, or discrete) support a single display, though the better ones will support dual displays.
In either of the above cases, if you want more displays than that, then you need something like this adapter. Startech builds quality products that are reliable & reasonably priced.
You might also want to look at the "Targus ACP71USZ USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Dual Video Docking Station with Power". I have both these products, & am pleased with both.

Pros: Works great - if you're not running Windows 8

Cons: Doesn't work in Windows 8 - c'mon Startech, Windows 8 has been available in beta form since February 2012 and you STILL haven't made drivers for it?!?!?! Not acceptable.

Pros: bought two 22" hd widescreens. Then went out looking for a adapter. I had hard time finding one that would work with my monitors. I found this startech with low reviews. i decided to buy anyways. I received my adapter a little after a week from ordering it. I put the disc in and clicked a few bittons and everything started up great. Install was basic and anyone could install. I am running a newer gateway desktop with windows 7

Cons: The only negative is that they do not have a driver ready for the upcoming windows 8. Startech has no idea when this will be ready.I am deducting two star for this because they should be better prepared.

Pros: SarTech makes decent devices but not in this case.

Cons: Don't plan on using this with higher resolution monitors/TVs even though the description sais that it supports them. You will get a laggy response time from windows, movies, etc...

Other Thoughts: Will this keep me from buying other StarTech devices? No.

While this product is great for providing dual-display or multi-monitor capability that can be used in a variety of laptop or desktop applications, the performance can be impacted by available system resources and the use of graphically intensive applications. For these more graphically intensive applications the USB2VGAPRO may be a more appropriate product as it uses the system’s graphic processing unit (GPU) to help render the video/image.
