5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No more opening my computer to backup a scribbled OS on a laptop or desktop hard drive. No more need for a live Linux disc either!

Cons: Nothing to remove an egg, just I didn't have a option for color.

Other Thoughts: Cable could be longer.

5 out of 5 eggsReally useful adapter

Pros: I love this thing. It's great for when you want to access data on a 2.5" drive for just a little bit. I have to do a lot of imaging of different drives and computers and not having to set up a dock every time saves a lot of busy work. It's small too, so its easy to throw it in your computer bag and have it available in a pinch.

Cons: Only works on 2.5 in drives, but that's a limitation of USB not the adapter.

Other Thoughts: If you're not sure, you should buy this, its cheap, works well, and really useful when you need it.

2 out of 5 eggsNot work for Wdw8

Pros: Build looks solid. Simple solution to connect only 2.5-sata hdd (ssd) to usb on system. It works well if use for data access.

Cons: It describes itself as simple solution to migrate system from bigger hdd to smaller ssd. I bought it exclusively for this purpose. I have a brand-new laptop comes with wdw8 750GB hdd and I need to migrate it to 128GB ssd. I searched many options everywhere and found it advertised itself as easy steps-1-2-3. My result was a non-bootable system. Apparently, there are partitions for UEFI, OEM-restore, Wdw8-boot, hidden, fat32, ntfs, and variants that the cable's software fail to identify properly, thus render the resulted migration useless. I corresponded with MFG's tech support over 6 emails and final conclusion proposed was wait a few more month for EzGig-v5 or buy software from another vendor EaseUs.

Other Thoughts: I hope I can RMA it, but so much time had passed...

5 out of 5 eggsASW-USB-25 with EZGigIV

Pros: Simple well made adapter unit as described USB 2.0 to 2.5" SATA Drives and packaged with its own cloning software EZGigIV for drive imaging/transfer, Modest pricing

Cons: EZGigIV is usable only with the SATA Wire adapter.

Other Thoughts: Specifically, I updated an 5 yr old EeePC with a 160GB SATAII drive to a 128GB Samsung SSD. For trial, I utilized the packaged EZGigIV (not III) to clone an XP Home installation successfully with manually specified partition resizing and 4K alignment from the HDD to the SSD. Partitions included XP on NTFS, Ubuntu on ext3, Swap, PE Recovery, and Boot Booster. After installing the SSD and booting XP, I tested browsing the HDD attached via the adapter successfully.

My actual update was performed with a clean W7x32 install and utilized the adapter for HDD browsing to transfer all data and media. I'll also being using the HDD for regular Windows backups for a while.

2 out of 5 eggsApricorn USB to SATA adaptor with backup software

Pros: Got on sale. Cheap (see below)

Cons: Transfer software that it comes with is not up to date. You have to download the latest software from the corporate web site. Wouldn't transfer the data from my son's old hard drive to the larger one I got him for his laptop until I upgraded the software, so beware.

Other Thoughts: As an USB 2.0 to SATA adapater it will work great. As an out of the box cloning apparatus, forget it, you have to do a lot more work to get it to do what you want. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have wasted my money.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a Lifesaver!

Pros: Decent price with rebate, works like a charm, a "must have" for laptop disk migrations.

I used to take both laptop disks and hook them up to a desktop and clone one to the other, no more of that mess.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Used cable to migrate to a larger disk on a Windows Vista laptop. Booted off of the CD and away we go. Sweet...

Used cable to migrate to a larger disk on a MacBook, but did it with Carbon Copy Cloner software. Still sweet...

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Works exactly as described. Easy to use cloning software. Compact design. Well made

Cons: Software lacks advanced coning features - could be viewed as a 'plus'.

Other Thoughts: I have done my share of disk cloning (with the occasional nightmare) and have come to appreciate simple, reliable solutions. This appears to be one of them. Copied Win 7 install from one SSD to another and rebooted on new drive without a hiccup. Took all of 30 min mostly due to the slower USB 2 interface (USB 3 model also available).
