5 out of 5 eggsWorks as expected

Pros: Copied two 256gig drives to new drives using USB 3.0 ports in 8 minutes each. Copying @ 180+MB/s.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Simple and functional design. Works right out of the box. No software install or any other set up necessary. Just plug and use. Looks and feels solid.

Cons: Would be nice if the cable was a bit longer. Plugged-in drive can sit flat on my desk when connected to a laptop, but just hangs in the air when connected to a desktop.

Other Thoughts: Definitely do get a USB 3.0 adapter for a HDD.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good software and Cable

Pros: Fast, accurate cloning.

The software is extremely easy to use.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have always preferred the Apricorn cloning kit, but my last one was almost 4 years old and the cable stopped being recognized anywhere.

So I ordered a new one, which I was pleasantly surprised is USB 3.0 compatible.

Works like a charm!

5 out of 5 eggsAPRICORN ASW-USB3-25 USB3.0 to SATA Adapter

Pros: Works well and fast if used on a USB 3.0 port, but still well on USB 2.0. Clones very quickly.

Cons: Will not work on cloning Windows 10. Tried many times, but is unsuccessful in cloning Windows 10. Probably Apricorn will come up with an update when Windows 10 is more readily available.

2 out of 5 eggsNice idea but...

Pros: USB based, easy copying via EX Gig SW. Supposed to be USB 3.

Cons: Broke after 1-2 uses. It appears to work, (recognised in EZGig) but has errors reading and writing to the drive. Tried multiple USB ports,

5 out of 5 eggsClone 3.5" drives, too

Pros: I tried what James W. suggested and it works great.

The Apricorn USB to SATA adapter uses the (5V.) power from your USB ports to power 2.5" drives, but it won't power 3.5" drives which need 12V.

If you try to use the EZ-Gig software with another brand of (12V.) powered adapter, you will get a message telling you that the EZ-Gig software can't find the Apricorn (USB to SATA) adapter.

There is, however, an EZ (pardon the pun) work around.

Purchase a SATA data *extension* cable. Carefully cut off the plastic tabs on either side of the male end (that would normally secure the cable) so it will fit into the Apricorn adapter). Plug that end of the SATA data extension cable into the data port of the Apricorn USB to SATA adapter and plug the other end into your 3.5" drive.

Then simply use any spare SATA power cable connected to your motherboard to supply 12V. power to the drive.

When you restart your computer the EZ-Gig software will now recognize the presence of the Apricorn USB to SATA adapter and will clone a 3.5" drive.

I have done this a number of times with no issues at all. Pretty handy. Thanks James.
