5 out of 5 eggsClone 3.5" drives, too

Pros: I tried what James W. suggested and it works great.

The Apricorn USB to SATA adapter uses the (5V.) power from your USB ports to power 2.5" drives, but it won't power 3.5" drives which need 12V.

If you try to use the EZ-Gig software with another brand of (12V.) powered adapter, you will get a message telling you that the EZ-Gig software can't find the Apricorn (USB to SATA) adapter.

There is, however, an EZ (pardon the pun) work around.

Purchase a SATA data *extension* cable. Carefully cut off the plastic tabs on either side of the male end (that would normally secure the cable) so it will fit into the Apricorn adapter). Plug that end of the SATA data extension cable into the data port of the Apricorn USB to SATA adapter and plug the other end into your 3.5" drive.

Then simply use any spare SATA power cable connected to your motherboard to supply 12V. power to the drive.

When you restart your computer the EZ-Gig software will now recognize the presence of the Apricorn USB to SATA adapter and will clone a 3.5" drive.

I have done this a number of times with no issues at all. Pretty handy. Thanks James.

Pros: Worked as advertised. Easy to understand and use even for a novice.

Cons: Nothing to complain about so far.

Other Thoughts: I would suggest this product used on a few different computers without a hitch.

5 out of 5 eggssuperb product

Pros: I used the 2.0 kit and after, the 3.0 kit since about 5 years. With my old x200 I booted first with the 2.0 with cd. Since my 8470P, I use the 3.0, booting with a sd card. I backup every 2 weeks and I never had any problems, even from a bigger to a smaller drive if the data in the source drive is smaller than the data in the destination drive.

Cons: none. A superb product at a superb price

Other Thoughts: Buy it!

5 out of 5 eggsfast SATA xfer

Pros: makes data transfer on laptops fast.
Great addition to ones kit if you do a lot of HDD data transfers from laptop drives.

Easier to tell the difference from the older USB 2.0 models with the change in color

Cons: none so far

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive for SSDs

Pros: - Clone existing HD containing OS or data to a SSD over USB.
- Works on 2.0 and USB 3.0.
- "Hot Clone" so to speak. No need to reboot. HD can be clone while your computer is on.
- Newest version of cloning software can be downloaded from Apricorn website. It weights about 27 MB. No install is needed. The software will work off executable.

Cons: - Its guaranteed for SSDs only due to the power limitations of USB ports.

Other Thoughts: - The cable appears sturdy and well made.
- The software is in its own class. I plugged the SSD to my desktop and copied about 50 GB data off OS drive to new SSD. It took about 7 minutes over USB 3.0. I swapped the drives and booted up. That was it! Awesome!
- I then copied another 60 GB off my laptops drive to new SSD over USB 2.0 connection. The process took 30 min. The process worked , even though USB 2.0 connection provides less power and is much slower.
- Very happy so far.
- I was swayed to make a purchase by a nice rebate.
- In my opinion this item is well worth purchasing.

5 out of 5 eggsA Must Have for SSD back-ups

Pros: This came with a SSD I bought from Newegg. I believe it was Crucial M sump tin 240GB
Anyways if you have multiple SSD and ever need or want to make exact back-ups than this is the easiest and most direct way to Ghost/copy over your entire drive. It's simple plug in, detect, select source drive, select destination drive, and relax.

Cons: Not made for HDD as well

Other Thoughts: Will Work on regular Hard Drives with a little tweaking:
So the reason this won't work on Regular hard drives is because there isn't enough power to spin the mechanical drive. With that being said there is a work around if you have a spare Sata Cable sitting around. I will try to Post Pictures of process when review Posts.
1. Remove Lip from one end of Sata Cable

2. Line up exposed connectors and plug Sata cable into Sata Adapter

3. Now that you have communication established simply add Power to spin the drive.
So Hard Drive is connected to Sata Adapter with the modified Sata Cable, Sata Adapter is connected to your PC through the USB 3 And Hard Drive is powered externally , I did this by temporally open PC case and use spare external Sata power connector and BAM you can now use this adapter for SSD and Regular HDD by simply tweaking a 2 dollar Sata Cable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device To Have Around

Pros: Makes copying a large Windows installation mechanical drive to a smaller, faster SSD easy. Hassle free. No time consuming setup, multiple software, docking bay, multiple cords. etc. needed to clone you operating system boot drive. Just plug in your new drive via USB and run the software. Done.

Cons: USB cord is short.

Other Thoughts: Certainly a useful time saving, hassle free device. Software is good with easy access updates available. Great. Recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsEZ DOES IT

Pros: This product exactly what it was asked to do. Connected new drive and cloned 2nd drive in 40 minutes. Going from a 129gb to a 240gb was just a treat to see something work in such a positive manner. May later upgrade to SSD in an HP probbook with Win 7 Pro.

5 out of 5 eggsA Solid Cable

Pros: This cable is well constructed and has given a year of service without a problem. The cable ends are molded with just the right amount of strain relief. I use it with an SSD on a fast computer at work that has USB 3.0 ports. Then I bring it home so I can access my work on the weekends on my older machine via USB 2.0. Both setups work fine. I boot Ubuntu Linux in both places without problem.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I am reviewing the cable alone, not the software. I purchased just the cable at a local electronics store.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product -- Worth the $

Pros: Worked out of the Box as advertised -- no issues.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: CD offered to download new version of the program off the website. Did so. Cloned my 256Gb SSD "C" drive to a new 512Gb SSD, swapped them out, and was up and running in minutes with no issues. Used the cable on a usb3 port, and then cleaned the old SSD for use as an extra data drive. Worked like a charm!
