apricorn

Simple to install and with PCIe 2.0 data transfer speeds up to 800MBps, the Velocity Duo x2 gives your desktop a whole new gear with Dual SSDs (RAID 0) and super-fast SATA III connections. The Velocity Duo utilizes a Marvell 9230 chipset and is bootable in both PC and Mac systems.

Easy Installation

The Velocity Duo takes just minutes to install. Simply snap your Solid State Drives to the Velocity Duo's SATA connectors, secure them with the provided mounting screws, then slide the card into any available PCIe slot (x2 or larger.) Once installed, transfer your OS and applications from your desktop hard drive to your new SSDs using Apricorn’s EZ Gig cloning software for PC systems, or for the Mac Pro use Apple's built-in Disk Utility.

Ideal for High-Performance Applications and Improved Gaming Performance

Running your OS and applications on an SSD provides a measurable performance increase, but the Velocity Duo is the ultimate upgrade for improving gaming performance.

SSDs Improve Game Performance

apricorn

As games become too large for their assets to be fully cached on modern graphics cards and main memory, the addition of two SSDs brings faster disk access during game play and greatly eliminates in-game pauses for a smoother playing experience. Games are also faster to load and save with two SSDs.

Blending Performance and Capacity – Apricorn’s EZ Gig Cloning Software with Data Select Makes it Simple

The Velocity Duo is bundled with Apricorn’s EZ Gig Cloning software with Data Select. Data Select provides a simple method to deselect data folders from the cloning process which is helpful when migrating from a large HDD to a smaller SSD and perfect for creating a Boot Disk. This gives you the option to run your OS and applications from a fast, smaller SSD boot drive, while keeping your documents and media files on your original hard drive.

EZ Gig Enables You to Clone Your Hard Drive in Just Three Simple Steps

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied

Pros: I installed two 1TB Crucial B100 SSDs in RAID0 to give me 2TB of space. The card worked well.

Cons: The instructions are missing a few things. First you should boot into Windows with the new device installed but using your old drive to boot up. Then download and install the driver from their site. Then you will need to press ctrl-m to access the cards BIOS and setup the RAID0. By default it is JBOD, not RAID0 or RAID1. Then you can clone it over.

Other Thoughts: The speed I measured with CrystalDiskMark maxed out at 370MB/s. Perhaps some faster SSDs would have done better but it was far short of the 800MB/s advertized. However, the computer is still snappy and feels fast plus it is about $2,000 cheaper this way than buying a 2TB SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsNew life for Mac Pros

Pros: Installed in my 2009 & 2010 8 core Mac Pros. Simply flawless running two Silicon Power 240gb SSD in Raid 0 and two Samsung 240gb 840's in the 2010 Raid 0 as well. No issues and screamingly fast. Also bought the Single SSD version to add a third 480gb Mushkin for audio samples. So far, almost a year, and not a hiccup. Way cheaper than upgrading to a 2013 Mac Pro and comparable performance now. Think I'll get a couple more just to keep on hand in case they discontinue them.

Cons: They're not free.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat some small glitches.

Pros: Dual SSD single card. Works on older computers. I have a Dell T7400 works like charm. Trim support works for using it in non raid mode.

Cons: Documentation is poor and support forms there are not a lot of information on it. The card said it supports trim for raid but when I tried it using windows 8.1 it showed the drive as a hard disk. So I use the card without raid and the drives show as 2 ssd ant windows 8.1 trim works great.

Other Thoughts: Over all a great card gives my old Dell the option to run ssd and have Trim support. I would recommend this card to any one with old pc.

5 out of 5 eggsApricorn Vel-Duo x2 is Simply Perfect

Pros: Works perfectly with my 2012 Mac Pro.

Preserves the all-important Mac Option Screen.

Dual boots Mac Yosemite and Windows 8.1.

SATA 3 Crucial M500 960GB speeds are very close to those on a 2012 mini with its native SATA3 bus.

Cons: Almost none. If running two SSDs in RAID 0 one could ask for a little more bandwidth but that would not stop me from using the Vel-Duo with RAID 0.

Other Thoughts: The users at the MacRumors Mac Pro forum have been writing about the Vel-Duo for some time. I finally took the plunge and am very impressed with the hardware and its performance. It is the perfect addition to a 2010-2012 Mac Pro Tower. I already had two Crucial M500 SSDs so the Vel-Duo is an extremely cost-effective way of get faster boot disk speeds while freeing up the Mac Pro's SATA 2 ports for other hard drives.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Works fine in my Mac Pro 2010 with no issues. I have 2 Crucial 500Gb SSD's in a hardware RAID 0 array. Blackmagic disk speed test returns about 650MB/s read or write. Not as fast as claimed but still speedier than a single SSD on a built in SATA-2 port.

Cons: Not as fast as claimed but still speedier than a single SSD attached to a native SATA-2 port. To set up hardware RAID you must first install the card in a real PC and enter the card's BIOS at boot time, set up your array and save your config. Then install the card in your Mac Pro. Could use a Mac utility to make this easier.

Other Thoughts: Time will tell how durable this setup is but it seems ok after 3 months.
