5 out of 5 eggsJust What I Needed

Pros: Connection was fast, shows up on every PC on my network, and hasn't dropped off for any reason. I couldn't ask for it to work better. Powers an external 2.5" hard drive enclosure/hard drive through the USB port with no problems.

Cons: The Manual. It reads like it was from this product 2 generations ago. If you are shopping for this item, you are probably the kind of person that can figure it out. It was not a big deal; you have to get the spirit of the task from the "manual" and then kind of feel your way through it. Definitely also look at the manufacturer's website. The info there is more current. This isn't a big con, since once you get it set up it seems to work great.

Other Thoughts: I am using this with a Transcend TS0GSJ25S3 2.5" USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure, which holds a spare SATA laptop hard drive I had leftover. Both items were through Newegg. Basically I made my own cheap NAS. It's NASty! Ha ha! Sorry.

3 out of 5 eggsNAS

Pros: Initial setup fairly easy. Works well from primary system. Not so for additional systems on network.

Cons: Could not find on the network from my laptop even trying to setup initially, software would not recognize the unit. I haven't given up yet, but it is quite frustrating.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Product

Pros: FAST setup!
Small footprint, can put it anywhere!

Cons: Watch the firmware
Read The Flippin' Manual! :)

Other Thoughts: This unit is SWEET! Worked first time, but I say that with a caveat. CHECK THE FIRMWARE REVISION. The uit I got did NOT keep the external drive awake, so it would hang the network. I called, got someone who spoke EXCELLENT English, they emailed me a firmware update, and it looks like it is now 100% I will post more if necessary, but I think this unit is a keeper!!

4 out of 5 eggsPleased so far

Pros: Small, low power, CHEAP. Web server, Samba server, FTP, BT, XBOX media servers. Quite comprehensive. I put a 2TB WD external behind it, and it recognized it immediately. Formatting the drive was simple.

Cons: Setup is a taaaad tricky, as you'll need to create users and permissions/etc. Beyond that, nothing wrong so far.

Other Thoughts: I've only owned it for about 2 weeks, so it hasn't been in use long enough to get a really good read on it's performance/longevity. I could wish that it was USB3, or SATA/II/III, but then again, I could wish to win the lottery.
