5 out of 5 eggsWorks as claimed

Pros: Simple, worked as advertised on first boot.

Cons: Felt a little loose in the HDD port, would work better if it came with a built in Molex splitter in case your power supply only came with one Molex connector.

Other Thoughts: Just one extra male Molex connector, or a splitter.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't Work... At All

Pros: Cheap
Newegg got it to me quickly

Cons: Didn't work, flat out. Wouldn't work either direction, even after double-checking the cables, pins, and switches. It wasn't the hard drive, because the same drive is now plugged into a PCIe expansion card and is working fine.

Other Thoughts: Ok, so I'm a hardware technician, working on enterprise CAD and administrative-type machines. I do this for a living. I couldn't get this piece of plastic to do anything other than turn on its little red light. I tinkered with it for about an hour. I just tossed it out yesterday.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We do apologize for any issues that you are having. This is one of our most popular IDE/SATA adapters.

99% of the problem is usually regarding the power. You did not mention if you connected the power. Did you remember to connect power to both the adapter and to your HD with their own power cables?

Please make sure the IDE hard drive is set to Master or CS mode.

As you know we are more than happy to provide our customers with a hassle free exchange when a product is defective.

Our technical support team is available to help 9am-5pm M-F. Feel free to contact us during those business hours at support@sybausa.com

SYBA offers an on-line RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, but design is a concern

Pros: It works as advertised for IDE drive -> SATA mobo

Cons: Did not fit in my Corsair Carbide 500R drive bays

Other Thoughts: My case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139009) like many has drive bays that run the width of the case. There is room on the end for some cabling, but this adapter isn't even close to fitting. I was able to secure my old IDE drive into another bay using parts from an old PC, but it wasn't easy. It seems like a shorter or 90 degree adapter would make more sense, given the popularity of cases with this mounting orientation. Otherwise it required a single restart to recognize the drive. Transfer is what you'd expect for IDE. Really the issue is entirely about being able to fit this adapter in your case, so check carefully before buying. It requires about two inches off the back of your drive to comfortably fit.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Garbage

Pros: None

Cons: Bought two of these to connect an IDE HDD and an IDE DVD Writer to a SATA board. Power LED lights up, but Mobo doesn't recognize either drive. Have tried using jumpers in every combination. Drives were pulled from working system, and Mobo SATA ports have been tested and work.

Also, I have seen macaroni art done by third graders that was better put together than these things. If you sneeze at them, they'll fall apart.

Other Thoughts: Budget Build:
HEC 6T10LITE Case
ASUS F1A55 LX Plus Mobo
AMD A6-3500 Triple Core Processor
Rosewill 450W PSU
8Gb Team Xtreem Dark Series DDR3 1600 RAM
Western Digital Caviar Blue HDD
HP Dvd Writer w/Lightscribe

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry that this adapter did not perform as you needed it to. There must of been some sort of I/O conflicts. Our products are built according to industry engineering specs, and they are intended to be used by users who have a level of computer expertise. This adapter has been on the market for years. It is one of our more popular adapters due to its affordability in price.
We have found that most of the time, a problem occurs due when users forgot to connect the power feed to the adapter. Consequently, without enough power to boot, the adapter will not function correctly.

The second common mistake made by users is the wrong IDE hard driver setting are chosen. It should be set to Master or CS on the back of the IDE hard drive.
Thank you again for purchasing our product. Our business depends on your satisfaction. Please do not hesitate to contact us at support@sybaUSA.com for our warranty service or further questions.

1 out of 5 eggsWould give zero eggs if I could

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Get what you pay for. Purchased (2), neither work while trying to go from IDE drive into SATA motherboard.
I bought these to use on a Harddrive and an optical drive, neither are being recognized by the system. The "manual" is very confusing as well.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

This is one of our most popular IDE/SATA adapters. Most likely, the problem was caused by one or two of the following:
1. The IDE hard drive was not set to MASTER or CS mode
2. There was no power feed (floppy power connecter must be connected to a power source)

We are working on providing better user manuals and a more informative website for our customers. We truly hope this kind of issue will not keep happening again.

Again, we are truly sorry for any inconvenience caused to you. Our customers satisfaction is very important to us.

3 out of 5 eggsOK for casual use, not for production

Pros: This did let me plug SATA drives into my old IDE based motherboard.

Cons: When used over many days, it would eventually hang and freeze the whole system (awaiting the end of a disk transfer that never ended). They haven't worked out all the rare glitches in this protocol translator yet. If you run long enough you'll hit one of them.

I tried multiple different units; they all failed eventually, when backing up my system nightly to a SATA drive from an IDE motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Use it for a few hours, e.g. to temporarily connect a drive, but don't build it into a system permanently.

3 out of 5 eggsDoes its job.

Pros: I get the speed I'd expect and hope for.

Cons: It feels incredibly cheap: The modules are disjointed and unevenly placed. Gives the impression that if you insult it too hard it'll fall apart from crying anemically.
