3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW

Pros: I eventually got it to work with a 4G SD booting Windows XP

Cons: I first tried to install XP onto 2 different 2G micro SD (with adapter) flashes. The drive was recognized and formatted but eventually I got errors during the install or a BSOD. I gave up using micro SD and tried a standard 4G SD (not micro) that I had sitting around. XP installed first try on the SD and I am using it to write this review but it has REALLY slow read/boot times and even worse write times!

Other Thoughts: Consider buying an IDE->CF instead! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186050
it is much faster

4 out of 5 eggsworks well, but limited

Pros: Works as intended. Easy to install and no configuration needed for motherboards with a BIOS that automatically detects hard drives connected over IDE. Worked fine in a newer 680i LGA775 board as well as a vintage Pentium socket 5 mobo. These along with CF adapters for IDE are perfect for PCs that need to be on all the time, serving up mundane tasks that don't require performance.

Cons: Doesn't support SDHD (2GB+ SD cards), and slower transfers compared to Compact Flash (CF). Not the adapter's fault, just a failing of the SD standard which has been around since 2001.

Other Thoughts: The previous reviewer should have know that the SD spec itself is really limited to 1GB. Some manufacturers release 2GB cards under the SD spec, but it's not an official spec that has been approved. It's an extension to go beyond the 32-bit addressing for SD. It's not the fault of Syba for not supporting it, as Syba is strictly support SD instead of non-official extensions to the standard. If you want support for anything above 1GB, go with a CF adapter or an SD adapter that supports SDHD.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Supports DMA and UDMA for quicker access.

Cons: I missed this little fast when I purchased these. It only supports SD spec 1.0 so the largest card I have been able to use with it so far is 1GB (I am using SD cards) Sure makes the 2 sets of these and 2GB cards I purchased worthless.

Other Thoughts: Would be great product if it supported the larger cards. I was trying to convert a few machines to boot from the SD cards and then store all r/w data in a ram drive until shut down. That is most likely not going to happen now.
