Terrific first impression
- Pros: I have this plugged into a Synology 108J home server (also purchased through Newegg). The Synology's Audio Station supports USB speakers but I don't have any, I do however have a very nice 4.1 Cambridge Soundworks set so I decided to try this out. Sure enough, as soon as I plugged it in and connected the speakers the server recognized the connection and was able to play the music files on my server.
- Cons: As some have mentioned, it is very loud, though this isn't really a con, just something to be ware of. It will take some time to get the sound levels between each component balanced.
- Other Thoughts: Can't believe how inexpensive it is and how well and effortlessly it works.
great usb audio device
- Pros: This usb audio device is very loud and clear, the sound quality is vastly better from the inboard audio on any laptop. I highly recomend this product and it is a much better value than the creative usb audio device. The cons: this item is very fraglie and the case has a tendancy to break with just a slight bump. A good product but be careful when you have it attached to your laptop and travel around.
- Cons: see above
Excellent in Linux and Windows
- Pros: Low noise. I hate listening to music through my earphones on my laptop because it has no much internal interference that all audio is noisy. But with this little guy, noise is slow low, it's imperceivable.
Works with Linux. I run Mandriva 2009.1, and it works flawlessly. I just opened Pulse Volume Control, and selected this Syba device on the Output Devices tab. No muss, no fuss.
- Cons: It is a bit thick. When I plug it into my side USB slot, it blocks the neighboring slot. If I had to, I could probably use it with a USB cable.
- Other Thoughts: All this for $8. Brilliant.
