5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for FreeNAS OS

Pros: It showed up as a storage disk when it was connected to the SATA port. Everything came up just fine. It was a good investment along with a Transcend 2gb Compact Flash card for my FreeNAS 8.3 OS.

Cons: You do have to align it with the card in before screwing it in because it doesn't sit in the slot right on my case, which I'm sure is consistent with any case with how it was built.

Other Thoughts: Rig:

Intel G630t
Asrock H77M
ASUS DVD-RW drive
2x 3TB Western Digital Reds
8gb Gskill 1.25v Sniper (only using 4gb for lower power consumption)

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: Low cost, well made.

Cons: This is a followup note to the review I posted earlier "Did not work". I have since researched the issue and have found that Win7 x64 does not want to work with this device. The device is supposed to be OS independent, but others have seen the same issues of inconsistent behavior under Win7 x64.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: Comes complete

Cons: The device did not work for me with a lot of different settings tried. Shipping is too much to send back. I will not buy SYBA again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are glad you did not send the adapter back to Newegg.

99% of the time, the problem can be solved by connecting power to the adapter. Most users do not realize that this adapter requires power too. Please connect power to the connector and try again.

If you still encounter issue, feel free to contact us anytime at support@sybausa.com

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It actually works really well. Placed this in a Supermicro 1U ATOM server and loaded Vyatta on a CF card with it.

Cons: The LED's are to bright?

4 out of 5 eggsGood CF to SATA

Pros: Works well in IDE mode for over a year and a half. Boots FreeBSD based FreeNAS 7.2 and 8 fine. Only in IDE Mode however. With a 4GB 133x CF card speed is adequate @ 15 MB/s

Cons: Does not seem to work in AHCI (using Asus e350M APU mobo). I need AHCI for NCQ on my APU e350 for my new FreeNAS build.

5 out of 5 eggsAs advertised

Pros: Works as advertised. Has a jumper setting to support both 5v and 3v3 flash cards. Has no issues in IDE mode (the motherboard using it does not support AHCI). Using it as my only disk on one of my FreeBSD machines.

Cons: I/O speeds are not great, but this is likely due to the speed limits of the card and not the CF/SATA adapter. Synchronizing the FreeBSD ports tree with a CF HD is especially slow.

Other Thoughts: Check the jumper before you use it. The factory setting on mine was 5v, and some cards may only support 3v3. My card supported both, so the setting was irrelevant in my case.

4 out of 5 eggsNo Sata Power

Pros: Works great, when it's powered.

Cons: Pay attention to all the pictures. This device does NOT come with a Sata to Floppy power converter. Molex only. If you are using these in an embedded system, it may only have SATA power cables.

Other Thoughts: You will need something like N82E16812270312.

1 out of 5 eggswon't function as boot device

Pros: didn't waste a lot of my money

Cons: wouldn't boot my 16gb transcend compact flash disk. BIOS sees drive just fine and I was able to install esxi to it, but it won't ever boot.
