1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with my PC

Pros: Was able to mount my HDD with adapter in an NZXT mid-tower case using an internal 3.5" bay by temporarily removing a memory stick to make the connections. Comes with SATA and power cables. Nice, tight connections. Reasonably clear installation instructions. Nice looking and feels solid.

Cons: Computer does not boot, but enters a reset loop when power is applied to the adapter. Will boot with only 2 of the 3 connectors plugged in. CPU Pentium G3258, Motherboad MSI Z87-G43, HDD Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3160812A 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 / ATA-6 3.5"

Other Thoughts: Returning for a refund.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize for the issues you have experienced with this adapter.

Please note that you must connect power to both the adapter and the drive you have connected to the adapter.

This is necessary in any configuration to properly supply power for the devices.

Also check that you have set the drive as the priority drive in the boot queue.

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your valuable feedback.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: It works! Installed in January, and 6 months later, it's just chugging right along, 24/7! (Connecting a SATA drive to an IDE MoBo)

Cons: So far, none! (6 months and counting.)

Other Thoughts: I bought this so that I could use a SSD drive in a legacy IDE machine. It's been running 24/7 for six straight months, playing music. No glitches, no hiccups! MUCH faster than the system it replaced!

2 out of 5 eggsDo not purchase

Pros: stayed snug on the IDE optical drive.

Cons: I could not get this thing to work at all. I tried every SATA connector on the mobo, not even bios would see it. I ended up getting two new optical drives instead. great idea that needs to go to the cave and die.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work. Yes, I tried every jumper and the little switches with BOTH power in the IDE HD

Pros: none

Cons: Doesn't work no matter what I tried. I tried jumper in Master and Cable Select, then changing the little tiny switches under the SATA socket. I tried every combination. Then I changed the SATA cable, then tried a different IDE hard drive. No detection, drive doesn't power on, nothing. AND YES, CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE, I PUT THE POWER IN BOTH THE ADAPTER AND THE HARD DRIVE.

Other Thoughts: waste of time

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a champ

Pros: Needed a legacy IDE drive to keep old HP Desktop alive after HDD failure. The newer formatted SATA drives wouldn't work, kept getting failed Win Vista install repeatedly.

Searching Google, I learned that there was a changeover in HDD format to deal with larger media files and the PC... that may be causing my problem.

Picked up this device and used an old IDE drive to SATA. Problem solved, PC works fine. --- STILL ALIVE!!!

Cons: none.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect

Pros: Solves a simple problem simply - old IDE device (hard drive, optical drive) installed in a modern, SATA-0nly system. Worked flawlessly on an old hard drive but only partially on an HP 1040 DVD writer with LightScribe - I could read and write media but LightScribe did not work.

Cons: Assumes that the host computer will have MOLEX 4-pin power connectors and thus comes with a male MOLEX cable. Newer computers will have no MOLEX connectors at all, only SATA power connectors. After I realized this, I had to purchase a somewhat rare male SATA to female MOLEX connector, which Newegg did have.

I also thought the provided MOLEX cable could have been better designed, with shorter wire. If one uses the SATA to MOLEX adapter cable with the provided cable, the total cable run is 16" (400mm) and that is a lot of excess.

Other Thoughts: The device adds 1.6" (40mm) of depth to the attached device. Make sure that the host PC has enough room for that extra depth in its drive bays. Also make sure that the cables do not unduly stress the device or the leverage could dislodge the device from the attached IDE drive.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes it's job.

Pros: It converted my old IDE drive to SATA.

Cons: There are a lot of cables, it also sticks out quiet a bit so make sure you have room in your case.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: Works fine.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Installed on an IDE CD drive. Hint: needed to make the CD drive "cable select" f or it to work. This is probably known to most, but it took me a while to figure this out.
