5 out of 5 eggsBreathes new life into parts

Pros: This simply works and works well - and I do mean well. The speed you get from your old hard drive may surprise you. It certainly surprised me. It's fairly easy to install. All (or at least the vast majority of) the USB transfer products on the market that use IDE are USB 2.0 so transfer speeds on larger files is painfully slow. This changes all of that. This restores the full speed capacity of these old drives.

Cons: None thus far

Other Thoughts: I don't consider these cons, but there are some things to consider when buying one of these.

1) Make sure your case is roomy enough to have about 2 ½ inches sticking out the back of the hard drive/optical drive. If you don't have at *least* that much room this will not fit.
2) You will need to know how to set the jumpers on your drive. Most drives have it written on them, some don't. You may be able to find a guide for your drive online if you look, but make sure you know *before* you buy this.
3) If your case only has SATA power connectors you'll need to buy a cable to convert one of those to molex so you have something to plug into.

If you do these things and follow the instructions provided in the manual this little gem will work wonders.

5 out of 5 eggsOld IDE HDD access is easy with this.

Pros: -Works
-Easy to install
-Comes with almost everything you'd need to get those old IDE HDD running on your new motherboard. Power and SATA cable
It's as fast as your HDD most likely due to it using SATA to connect to the Motherboard. Current IDE to USB products I saw would be slow in comparison to this. I didn't see an IDE to USB 3.0 but no matter IDE to SATA is faster anyway.

Cons: Didn't come with a jumper. Not a BIG deal, but without one you're most likely out of luck getting this thing recognized. Your old HDD should have one on it already but mine didn't (rigged it) and since its needed why not throw it in the package they cost nothing.

Other Thoughts: Regarding the jumper, most the problems I see people having with this product is forgetting to use the jumper on the HDD. So, install the jumper (usually on the first two left-most pins as you look at the HDD from behind. Here's a lousy diagram ( [:] : : : ), the two closest to where this device would be installed not next to the power input. Also, regarding the wire it comes with to power the device, you probably only need one power input even thought it has two, I imagine they did this for those rare devices (thoughtful) that require more juice but one should be fine for most users.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked well for me

Pros: Kit comes with everything you need. I used it to connect a SATA DVD drive to an IDE port on the MOBO.

Cons: I purchased at the higher price. If you can wait for a sale. Under $7

Other Thoughts: I did not test this product going from an IDE product to a SATA port on the MOBO.
I used one of the old "A" drive plugs from the power supply instead of the supplied adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for copying disks to new PC

Pros: I'm using this product to transfer IDE drives to a new computer (i.e., no IDE ports) .

Works great. Just make sure the adapter has power (the small connector provided). A handy little addition to my computer parts tool chest.

Cons: Don't think I could get the back enclosure panel on if the product was intended to be used continually.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend!

3 out of 5 eggseasy setup, no hassle, but too big and bulky

Pros: worked right out of the clamshell packaging
does as expected

Cons: the product is too big and bulky to fit in the case properly. The design could have benefitted from a short extension cable on the 40-pin connector in order to make it flexible, rather than building it directly into the plastic casing. I can't put my tower side panel back on until I swap this drive out for a sata drive and no longer need the adapter. This is why it only gets 3 eggs, even though it functions pretty flawlessly in Windows 10.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly. Simple. Drop the price by 6$ to be more perfect and get 5 eggs.

Pros: Very easy to install. Function perfectly. Computer knows no difference. Instructions are basic, however this is a very basic adapter device that does not need much instruction. Only thing you really need to know is what setting to put the dip switches (SW1-SW2) at for your particular configuration.

Cons: A bit pricey compared to the other similar products. Particularly when you have to start adding power adapters and splitters to feed it. Each one of these requires a power feed via floppy power connector. If setting up multiple drives, you will need more power splitters/adaptors, one for each and every one of these. If these were 6$ to 8$ cheaper, it would be much more in line to support more conversions in machines that have multiple drives.

Other Thoughts: I recently upgraded two computers and each having 4 drives in them. The new motherboards do not have IDE interfaces. In the computers I upgraded, I have multiple IDE drives and devices (hard drives, DVDRW drives, CDRW drives) already installed. These adapters take up a little space at the back of the drives but that is easily accommodated in mid to full size cases and the space savings of SATA cables versus the Udma cables. Depending on what you are doing, these adaptors are definitely the ticket. If you have good condition drives (or data) you do not want to needlessly throw away to the recycle, use these to convert them. The new SATA drives are internally and functionally the same and in reality no better than the latest UIDE in everyday use. The only difference is the cable. Do the math, these will save you money. Just keep an eye on what you will need for power supply cords/adapters to feed them. If you are basically at scratch start or have a really old IDE, then you may want to just buy a new SATA drive.

1 out of 5 eggsSort Of Works and Sort Of Doesn't Work

Pros: Works great with IDE drives

Cons: Will not work with SATA drives. Any SATA drive connected comes up in Windows XP explorer as LOCAL DRIVE rather than the name I know is there. When I try to open the drive in Windows Explorer I get the message DRIVE IS NOT FORMATTED. DO YOU WANT TO FORMAT IT NOW?. Of course I click on NO. I can then take that drive and put it in a removable drive bay and everything looks fine just as I expect. I took the Adapter across the street to a buddy who tried it on two computers, one running Windows XP Pro and the other running Windows 7 Pro. Same results on both computers. In fact sometimes the SATA drive would not even show up on his Windows XP machine at all. I also tried a new SATA cable. Same results. So works great with IDE drives and with SATA drives it is an ugly paperweight. I am disappointed.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this adapter to other people because it does not work as advertised. I will keep it only because it works with IDE drives.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize for the issues you've experienced with this IDE/SATA adapter.

You might have to set the BIOS settings to IDE mode if you want the SATA ports to work on a IDE port.
Other customers have mentioned that a format is required in order for the driver to work properly. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there is a workaround for this.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's supposed to do

Pros: Reads IDE drives just like it's supposed to

Cons: It's hard to disconnect the four pin from the adapter. Very hard.
