1 out of 5 eggsNot Great

Pros: None

Cons: Never got to work. Power connector system is a pain

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the system was not configured properly.

Check that the adapter is properly connected to each device and that the system is set in IDE

mode.

Also check that the device is properly connected to the PSU or it may not function properly.

1 out of 5 eggsOnly works intermittently. Unacceptable.

Pros: None, sorry.

Cons: I bought two of these, and they both exhibit the same problem- sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I tried different ide drives and different sata ports on my motherboard- same problem.

About $20 and several hours wasted troubleshooting.

Other Thoughts: I would return these, but the shipping costs make it pointless.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the devices were not properly connected to the drives.

Please ensure that the cables are firmly attached to their respective slots on the device.

3 out of 5 eggsCan be problematic

Pros: - it works in a pinch when needed for a simple drive conversion if your board is lacking IDE headers.
- Works on CD Drives for reading purposes well.
- Works well enough for Hard drive usage.
- Nice array of status LED's for troubleshooting purposes.

Cons: OPTICAL DRIVES:
- Will not function with for disc Writing. The device will fail stating hardware error when attempting to do so with this adapter.
- Causes long delays after a powerdown when reintializing the device upon access.
- May cause detection issues on some motherboards after initial startup. Warm boots will result in device scan failures of the connected drive.

*- Drive used in this was an IDE LG GCC-4120B CD/DVD Reader/Writer

HARD DRIVES:
- Will cause a BSOD when accessed for S.M.A.R.T. scanning
- Max transfer rate is Multiword DMA Mode 2 based on windows detection despite DMA resets.

*-Drive used was a Hitachi Deskstar 160gb PATA-Drive

Other Thoughts: Would have been beneficial to either have had a 90 degree cable included or a right-angled Sata header on the device as the adapter causes the cable to stick out far more. This results in the device not being able to fit in some cases.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps there are a couple steps that could be taken to remedy the situation with optical drives.

Confirm the Jumper setting on the IDE drive is set to Master.

If the device cannot be detected try changing the IDE cables and change the BIOS settings for the IDE Channels to CD-ROM from Auto.

Also confirm your IDE drives themselves do not have an issue, use monitoring software to scan your devices.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works. Doesn't come with a stupid 90 degree SATA cable.

Cons: Manual is incorrect. Correct drive jumper setting is cable select. Seemed a bit unreliable reading from a DVD burner, which basically means I bought two of them for nothing. Inelegant power solution.

And the biggest con of all: They cost twice as much to have shipped from USA.

Other Thoughts: You can actually boot from an IDE drive using this device if you're lucky enough to have a motherboard that will detect the drive. Recent experience shows this problem to be pathetically common.

5 out of 5 eggsSlim, Quick, Versatile, Cheap, and Effective!

Pros: *Extremely Slim Design - low profile design allows for cramming the PATA drive and board into small spaces

*Extremely Narrow Design! - the board cuts off almost immediately on both sides of the IDE port, allowing for usage with both IDE HDDs and IDE ODDs!

*Well-Built! - Doesn't feel flimsy or like it will break any easier than any other comparable board

*Fast! - As fast as IDE goes. Supports all ATA speeds (up to 133MB/s) using Ultra ATA

Cons: *A buffer between the board and the metal case of your IDE HDD or ODD would have been nice, but solving this takes just 5 minutes with a pair of scissors and a piece of plastic.

*"Oh man.. now I have to open this case to install another HDD, again!" lol

Other Thoughts: You should probably cut out a piece of thin plastic about the size of the board, with a rectangular hole in it for the IDE port, to prevent any of the board's circuitry from touching the drive's metal case. This one wasn't my idea, but it's a good one, so I thought I'd include it here, too.

If you are planning to use this to temporarily access data on different hard disk drives, get an external USB adapter, instead. If you need a more permanent solution, this is your tool!

If you are looking for the best option to hook-up a PATA Optical Disk Drive inside your new SATA computer, this is it!

**Some reviewers have mentioned that the Molex to Floppy Drive Connector Cable is wrong. If it was, it seems that Syba has fixed that issue. THE CORRECT CONNECTOR (female FDD berg) IS NOW INCLUDED WITH THE BOARD!**

To clear any and all confusion about what you have to plug where:
1) Plug IDE port on bridge board to IDE port of HDD or ODD
2) Plug 4-pin Molex from power supply to PATA HDD or ODD
3) If you have a floppy drive cable running from your power supply, simply plug that into the bridge board. Otherwise, use a Molex cable from the PSU, plug it into the supplied adapter cable (Molex to FDD), and, then, into the board.
4) Plug the SATA cable into your motherboard and into the SATA port on the bridge board

All-in-all, you need to power the device and power the board. Then, the SATA cable carries all the data.

In summary, this Syba bridge board is the best option, offering everything you need, for installing an old PATA Optical Disk Drive or PATA Hard Disk Drive inside your new SATA computer! Look no further.

1 out of 5 eggsdidn't work

Pros: None

Cons: Pluged it in made sure everything was tight and snug re read the directions 3 times installed it 5 and I'm just letting it sit for a couple of days before I try again

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Confirm the floppy power feed is connected to the adapter from the power supply.

Note that this adapter does not provide power to the device it is connected to.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!!!

Pros: I bought two of these to go with two of these:
Refurbished: WD Caviar WD1600AABB-56PUA0 160GB 7200 RPM 2MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 / ATA-6 3.5" Internal Hard Drive.
I needed some cheaper drives for my grandsons' desktop. This is a homework computer, not a gamer. All have been working great for over a week. No problems as yet. Time will tell.
No problems with installation. All the CORRECT connectors-cables were included. As noted earlier; if the hard drive has a metal housing, you need to make additional insulation adjustments.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is what you need if you have older IDE drives you are trying to make use of.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat idea

Pros: lets you continue to use usable PATA devices-had some expensive DVD burners, and some ATA 100/133 hard drives. The DVD optical drives run great with one of these. Using the ATA 100/133 hard drives is at the very least, some additional storage(esp. if it's a 160/200/250gb drive) You may want to put the os in something faster. I have used an old 20/30gb drive in a linux -windows 8 box for the grub boot manager, and both os on the larger faster drive. Plus you also get a little extra storage also.

Cons: lets you continue to use usable PATA devices

Other Thoughts: it sure is fun using this on a mb with a 970/990 chipset, and no PATA ports--hehe
