5 out of 5 eggsDVI-I vs DVI-D

Pros: Rare to find HDMI to DVI-I

Cons: HDMI to DVI-I converters serve absolutely no purpose as far as I know.

Other Thoughts: Just as stated above: If you have a female DVI-I jack and you plug this into it, it works. At the same time, if you plug a DVI-D male into a DVI-I slot, it works(because the base cable is HDMI, it does not carry analog). Using this jack prevents you from plugging into ANY female DVI-D jacks, which will become more and more common.

Tip(in general, disregarding analog):
DVI-D Cable to DVI-D Jack = GOOD
DVI-I Cable to DVI-D Jack = BAD
DVI-D Cable to DVI-I Jack = GOOD
DVI-I Cable to DVI-I Jack = GOOD

5 out of 5 eggsIf you don't know, don't knock it.

Pros: Harder to find DVI-I

Cons: Not Dufus-Proof (is anything?)

Other Thoughts: This is not a DVI-D connector, that is why it says DVI-I. Why would you have to remove pins? Unless you don't know what you are doing and bought the wrong connector!! (four pins are for Analog) If you need DVI-D, get DVI-D, not DVI-I or DVI-A. "Dual link" does not mean to multipurpose. Warning? The Sunday paper does NOT need a WARNING that it is NOT the Monday paper!! Just four letters, get it right people.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's an adapter

Pros: It's a nice adapter. Solid construction, and stays solidly connected to my PC and the HDMI cable.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: As far as I'm aware, gold plating only really helps an analog signal. Since it's all 1's and 0's, it doesn't really do anything, but since it's still priced so low I'm not complaining.

4 out of 5 eggsworks

Pros: is a great adapter, has been working great so far after a few modifications to it removal of a few pins and shaving down the power pin.full 720-1080.

Cons: had to remove pins for it to fit reason for 1 egg to be taken, still beats any price i got at best buy!

Other Thoughts: didn't fit my out of date hdtv, it didnt come with a hdmi port. the dvi connection to my tv turned out to have less pin holes then my adapter had pins. was able to pull out the 4 small pins around the fat one and file the fat pin down to make it narrow. was able to fit it after that still using av audio cables dvi to hdmi is just for video.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy - this product is mislabeled

Pros: This adapter does not have a DVI-D Dual Link connector as advertised. Instead it has a *DVI-I" Dual Link connector. The difference is the four extra pins around the offset ground bar that you can actually see in the large picture. These four pins prevent it from being used with most monitors. The offset ground bar is also different size. See below.

Cons: from the cablestogo.com web site "This connector appears almost identical to the dual-link DVI-D connector except that it has an additional four pins that surround the flat offset ground bar. This is because the DVI-I interface was designed to carry both digital and analog signals. However, most DVI displays and video sources are DVI-D, and the female ports do not contain sockets to accept the four extra analog pins. As a result, DVI-I cables are limited to a narrow range of applications such as certain KVM switches. Also note that the offset ground bar on a DVI-I plug is larger than the one on a DVI-D plug. This means that a DVI-I connector cannot fit into a DVI-D socket simply by removing the four analog pins."

3 out of 5 eggsMistaken Purchase

Pros: Don't know.

Cons: The product description should remind buyers to be sure they have the right DVI connection before buying this adapter ... as I learned the hard way, not all DVI connections are the same.

1 out of 5 eggsMistake to Buy

Pros: None

Cons: This product would not fit/connect to the standard DVI-D connector on my Viewsonic monitor [male to female]. I purchased one product and it would not fit so I returned it as defective. The second product was the same. Newegg was great about the RMA for the first product and I didn't bother returning the second because of cost/hassle to return.
