2 out of 5 eggsDriver problems

Pros: Works once you finally get the right driver.

Cons: Syba has the wrong driver for this product on their website. I found through booting linux that my device is an MCS 7703 chip, which you can easily find drivers for with a quick google search. Syba's site lists drivers for a PL-2303, which is a completely different chip and won't work with this device.

Other Thoughts: To find this information, I booted linux and ran lsusb while it was connected. It will tell you which chip you have.

Both drivers are not signed for Windows 7 64-bit, and you must use Test mode and a driver signer to get them to work. I used dseo13b to do it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize the our website does not have the latest updated drivers made for this product.

The Manufacturer of the chipset usually has the updated drivers on their website.

We added the information on our website.

Thank you for purchasing one of our products, and for leaving us your valuable feedback

1 out of 5 eggsJunk Period Customer Service Lip Service

Pros: The Packages looked Good, nothing else

Cons: Where do I start? SYBA sells this junk and knows they do. They have not updated this package, still selling in 2013, knowing it is Junk, but clear their shelves. After all, most people will not spend the time to send it back, costing as much as the cost.

Other Thoughts: I purchased 10 of these a couple years back. Opened one in 2011, as my computer store (then) customers do not run out like many of us and update everything they own. So for those, once they have a USB, they need their older Serial Devices (Printers and the like, Older modems and...)

I played with it for a couple months, searched out drivers, this prolific chip is Junk. another dime in cost production could have used a much better solution.

I was honest, reading reviews here recently that they were "making it right" Well here is the right with me. I told them I bought 10 of these and while it was over a year ago, I pulled them from my shelves as if I could not get it to work, how could I possibly allow my customers to deal with this. Bought a better quality other units that worked right out of the driver loading,

When I contacted SYBA about it, HAVE ALL EMAILS if you need proof

I asked where was the RMA form they talked about, I would like an EXCHANGE. They came back with this email (what part of EXCHANGE do they not read)

"What is that that you are asking for, Exchange or your Money Back"

I replied "EXCHANGE"

Next reply was It was out of warranty and the manufacture posting on Newegg were for in warranty service. It is sold here, search another link, still actively sold and that one barely has three starts, 36 reviews.

I wrote back and said, that is unacceptable (well I used another work, not vulgar that new egg will not allow), they are brand new, you still sell them. If I sold it to a customer today, with my receipt, you would warranty them, why not the retailer. I did not have to be honest, but I always am, I could have said Last week for all it mattered and just made my own business receipt, I am not like that and told them.

They sent me an email telling me they would do nothing, I said I am an expert reviewer on many sites, are you sure. I then said forget it, I will toss them

If Egg posts this HONEST working with the company review, it will now have been posted here and that other zonian place, that lion (cousin) place, and two others. The Zonian place posted it immediately. I sent it to ZYBA and said, well, how many customers will think twice now, for 9 units that would have cost more just to UPS them back.

They came back once they saw the reviews I provided being posted and used about every excuse in the book, late emails, they misunderstood. All garbage because they wanted me to stop. How much will my reviews cost SYBA corporation, posting, where I could, their communication emails. Sorry SYBA, you upset the wrong person. As I told you, TRUST ME ON THIS ONE!

Stay away from any SYBA product. They sell quick, service ... well you read it here.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

After 10 years, we are still here because we treat our customers right.

We always make sure our low price products perform the functions we promised to our customers.

This Serial adapter is a popular item. We sell average 1000 a month. However, this kind of USB to Serial adapter might not work with all Serial devices out there due to Serial, USB and Windows technologies comflict.

In your case, we would recommend you to contact us one more time. What we can do for you is to help you to fine turn your Windows setup so our adapter might be able to work with your Serial devices.

If you have received none professional reply from one of our technical support members, we would like to find out who, and when. Please forward the e-mail to us for review.

Our technical support team is available to help 9am-5pm M-F. Feel free to contact us during those business hours at support@sybausa.com

We apologize for any issues that you are having.

As you know we are more than happy to provide our customers with a hassle free exchange when a product is defective.

SYBA offers an online RMA form the user can easily fill out submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Linux support

Pros: Cheap. Flexible with external USB cable. PL2303 devices work perfectly in Linux. I've been using a couple of these with laptops (and newer desktops) running Linux to connect to serial consoles on embedded systems for years with nary an issue. I always keep one in my tool bag.

Cons: Finding working PL2303 Windows drivers took some googling. One star off for lame drivers on bundled CD. Try http://edvoncken.net/2010/08/pl-2303-usb-to-serial-driver/

Other Thoughts: What's this I hear about counterfeit PL2303 chips?

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible driver support.

Pros: Low price

Cons: Driver support is terrible. The driver was last updated in 2007. It has had install problems on some machines and caused blue screens on others.

Other Thoughts: Without good driver support, what value does a piece of hardware have?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

Please return the adapter back to us for a new replacement. It might be a defective USB to Serial adapter.

We are more than willing to provide all of our customers with prompt exchanges whenever a product becomes defective.

SYBA offers an on-line RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)

1 out of 5 eggsGive it a wide berth

Pros: None - since I can't get it to work.. but I guess the packaging was pretty

Cons: Just like the other review.. this device is a nightmare to install!! To the point that I have had this for almost 2 months now and I can not get it working. Tech supports response was 'Oh the device must be defective'.. problem is that I have two of them so what are the chances that both of them are defective? Stay away from this device unless you want to pull your hair out in frustration at installing it!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

It is very unlikely that both adapters are defective. Strange things like this can happen though. Please contact us ASAP and we will replace both of the adapters.

This serial adapter is one of our popular adapters and should not give you this many issues.

We are more than willing to provide all of our customers with prompt exchanges whenever a product becomes defective.

1 out of 5 eggsnot worth the money

Pros: NOT APPLIACABLE

Cons: The mini CD-rom which has the installation drivers has 11 different folders for other different manufacturers. The drivers are for everything but the adapter i.e. SATA driveres. I went to the company's website had 2 different driver packages to download. One of the two was clearly designated for the MAC OS & the other wasn't
