Pros: Bought this for a mini DVD drive salvaged from a compact Dell PC, fits exactly and works perfectly!

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not fit mSATA

Pros: None

Cons: Does not fit mSATA as indicated in the description. Only buy this if you have a "slimline connector" on your drive. Search for "mSATA Adapter" if you're looking for something to convert an mSATA card to a normal 2.5" connector.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize for the confution that our product has caused.

For your preferences for a mSATA adapter, we recommend SY-ADA40050 and SI-ADA40069 to support mSATA SSD ordevices.

Thank you for leaving us your valuable feedback.

5 out of 5 eggs37" is plenty long

Pros: Never a doubt if this cable will be long enough to fit any future case, ever. Read below about the 5v only plug.

Cons: Way too long. My bad so no eggs off for that one.

Other Thoughts: Was worried my Supermicro board and case would need a long mini SATA cable to reach from the top edge, down through the fan wall, and into the sata headers. This cable is long enough to reach OUT the back of the case.

"Slimline SATA" connectors came about in the 2.6 revision of the SATA standard for laptop sized DVD/CD drives only. There is no 3.3v or 12v requirements.

5 out of 5 eggsYou still need a cable similar to this!

Pros: Folks, you are going about this all wrong for those of you who are looking to hookup SSD's. You still need a standard Sata cable and standard sata power cable for desktop installations however, you need to also order the mSATA to SATA adapter along with it. This will mount your SSD on a 2.5" adapter which you can then install to laptops or mount to a 2.5: to 3.5" frame adapter for desktops. Search for "mSATA SSD adapter" without the quotes on here (Newegg). Make sure you select the right product which will fit your SSD card - 50mm or 70mm.

Cons: Syba Tech support ...... Shame on you for not mentioning your own product for the SSD adapter I mentioned..

Other Thoughts: I think that Syba Tech support got caught up in self defense in lieu of proposing the correct solution.
This cable should not take a bash because the correct solution was not used. Although this cable may work with the application they mentioned, it is not for use as an msata cable direction to the SSD Cards. You need a std SATA and Power cable and it works fine with the desktop solution along with the proper SSD adapter.
Newegg is usually pretty good at recommending related products but they missed this one for the adapter when selling SSD's for desktops or legacy laptops. These SSD drives are tiny and it is not apparent till you get one in your hand.

Chime in guys if I missed something.

Hope this helps.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: N/A to this review

Cons: N/A to this review

Other Thoughts: Well, it took a couple nasty reviews, but I feel they earned the neutralization of my last review in relation to the item's total review 'reputation'. I got an email from Newegg notifying me of their response.

"Dear Customer, We had it changed. ...."

I came and checked the details and found it to be pretty similar, but the difference it made satisfied me for sure.
Despite the change, one could still assume that, since it works with a mSATA slim optical drive , it would also work with the mSATA SSDs, but at least now it doesn't directly contradict them.
Thanks to the SYBA rep. who brought the accuracy of this product's description up to par.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't fit

Pros: None -

Cons: Does not fit Crucial MSATA drive. That's what it's supposed to be for.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the confusion. This adapter was originally designed for slim optical SATA devices. This cable cannot provide the same connections as a mSATA card, because the connection needs a chipset to support a Disk connection.

Perhaps we need a more specific title for this product and what it supports.

We apologize for the misinterpretation of our product.

Thank you for leaving us your valuable feedback.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It arrived quick.

Cons: Haven't found any yet.

Other Thoughts: Plugged it in and it worked. After a couple of months of heavy use (I use it for my BD-ROM) nothing of note has happened.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not fit mSATA SSD drives.

Pros: I'm a tech and can use it on a mini optical drive

Cons: Another review said "Does not fit mSATA SSD drives."
Manufacturer Response was: "Dear Dave,

We are sorry for the confusion. This adapter was originally designed for slim optical SATA devices. At the time, there were no mSATA SSD on the market, and the mini SATA was used to identify such slim SATA connector.

Since then, we have updated our product description to slim SATA cable. We hope this will clear everything up and avoid future misunderstandings.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience caused to you. We stride in our customers' satisfaction."
---------------------------------------
If you updated your product description then how do you explain the line in your ad that reads "This cable enables SATA connection to work on mSATA (Mini SATA) devices such as SSD" on the Newegg site.

Other Thoughts: Manufacturer needs to change their ad description.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

The department who updated those descriptions might have made a mistake confusing optical drives with SSD.

We apologize for any issues that you are having.

We will change the description again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for its intended purpose.

Pros: It's a cable, and the thing connected to it (SATA optical drive) works.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Bought this cable/adaptor to install a slim, slot-load DVD drive in my desktop computer. Since the drive works perfectly, I'm not sure what more to comment on.
