Pros: * It worked at first. *Allows the use of longer Standard USB 3.0 cables. * High Throughput Speeds.
Cons: * Stopped Working After a Short Use.
Other Thoughts: I purchased this USB 3.0 Male B to Male A adapter to be able to use longer cables to connect a Vantec Nexstar 3 Enclosure to a computer. The standard cable that came with the enclosure is only approximately 1 meter in length. This adapter allowed me to use other longer USB 3.0 cables that I had without getting specific cables with USB B Male ends.
The adapter worked perfectly for a few day and approximately 6 hours of use to allow me to transfer files at the same rate as the OEM cable arrangement. It then stopped working.
At first, I thought that the drive enclosure had stopped working since the computer did not recognize that a drive had been attached. After going through several attempts to refind the drive using Windows 7 Professional, I started investigating hardware. I changed out the cable connected to the adapter for a couple other USB 3.0 cables and had the same problem. I finally switched back to the OEM cable and the drive was immediately visible on the computer.
I have no idea why the adapter failed. It was under no stress and not mishandled at all. There is nothing in the adapter which is electronic that I know of. It just seems to be a normal pass through that converts one plug type to another.
Needless to say, I cannot recommend this adapter to anyone. At US$7, it isn't worth the postage to ship this adapter back and to try to RMA the device. It worked fine while it lasted and now I will have to find another adapter from a different mfg. and hope that will last.
We have tested a few of our inventory and the results are 100% good so far.
However, we still would like to find out more about this over current issue you been experience. If it is really a design or production issue, we will look into this right away.
