2 out of 5 eggsTerrible driver support

Pros: High quality (physical) product. Nice cable and ends.

Cons: No auto install for the driver CD. Out of date drivers on CD. Downloading the latest drivers from the website and non of them are applications/exe's. Also, one manual says DO NOT plug in adapter prior to driver install and the included instructions say DO plug in adapter prior to driver install....

Other Thoughts: Search for another product to resolve your connection issue.

4 out of 5 eggsNice little Adapter

Pros: Works!

Cons: Had to go to website to get Win 7 drivers

Other Thoughts: What can I say? This just worked........ AFTER finding the drivers on the company website. They need to update their disc.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly in Linux

Pros: Bought two for my Linux machines. Absolutely no problems using it with my MythTV MyBlaster. Uses the Prolific 2303 (pl2303) kernel module.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for my purposes

Pros: Linux drivers available for the nslu2 via ipkg. Works with my application

Cons: DB9 shell is a little larger than a standard serial cord. This was OK for me, but check your application to make sure you have room.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this to interface a circuit I built with the Linksys nslu2. I'm using only RX/TX, no flow control @ 2400 baud. I ran it continuously for about a week with no problems. I installed the pl2303 driver to get it to work.

4 out of 5 eggsCheap and works like it should

Pros: Price

Well made

Worked well for my application.

Cons: Took a little work getting the cable to work because I could not get the driver CD to install but worked fine after downloading the driver from CP TECHNOLOGIES website.

Other Thoughts: Down load driver from CP TECHNOLOGIES website.

2 out of 5 eggsWasn't able to use it

Pros: Inexpensive.
Ubuntu Linux (7.04) recognized it (but see below!).

Cons: Didn't work for my application.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to use this device to interface my laptop to my ham radio (my interface needed a serial port connection). It stopped working whenever I began transmitting. I have since bought another device (for a bit more money) and it works fine.

2 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for my application

Pros: Cheap, compact.

Cons: Didn't work on my Smart-UPS.

Other Thoughts: Because of shipping, no sense returing it. Maybe I can use it for all the other rs232 devices out there.

4 out of 5 eggsWorking on Mac OSX 10.4.9 for communication with simple UPS

Pros: PL2303 chip is compatible with Mac, Linux, & PC as drivers are available for each

Cons: The drivers on the included CD & at http://www.cptechusa.com/support.html
appear to be years out of date for Mac. Instead I used this driver http://llondel.org/md_pl2303_v109b6.zip
& the device is detected as /dev/tty.usbserial

Other Thoughts: I think that Newegg as the vendor has a responsibility to verify that drivers are up to date for the items they sell. If this was done I would have rated the product excellent (5/5).

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Ubuntu Edgy and STK500

Pros: I was looking for a serial/usb adapter for my laptop that seemed to work well with linux, and this one definitely does. It is a Prolific chipset on the inside, and it worked plug and play.

Cons: This is minor, but there's no LED to indicate its status. Indicators are nice for debugging (just in case).

Other Thoughts: If you use Linux, this will be awesome for you!

4 out of 5 eggsCP-US-03 USB-to-Serial adapter

Pros: It worked with the older, serial port, 3DConnexion, 3d controller devices - and it's the only unit I've tested that works with both USB v1.1 and v2.0

Cons: It was cranky to install on the older USB v1.1 machine, requiring a couple reboots before it 'took', but that's it.

Other Thoughts: I tested several USB-to-Serial devices, and only one other one worked at all, and only with USB v2.0. This is where I'll be buying my adapters and recommending them to others as well.
