5 out of 5 eggsUSB to Print adaptor works with me

Pros: Plug and Play, works without drivers on my HP Laserjet 6P printer, using Windows XP. I just selected my printer port in the control panel to use the "USB" port.

Cons: It's packaging came with an unlabeled driver mini-cd which is unreadable by my tray loading cd player. This is annoying. Luckily it's not needed.

Other Thoughts: Others say it didn't work. It works perfectly for me. I love that I don't have to install any drivers other than the automatic windows ones, "Found new hardware, installing drivers automatically" worked for the first time I've ever seen on a new inexpensive hardware. For $8, what a deal.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: None

Cons: Did not work

Other Thoughts: This cable did not work on Win XP Home Edition with my older model Brother laser printer. Upon plugging in the cable, the printer was detected correctly. However, I could not get anything to print at all. It was a waste of money, and it was not worth returning the cable since the return shipping would have cost almost as much as the cable itself.

1 out of 5 eggsupdate

Pros: See my previous review

Cons: Died after a month.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to update my previous review because I bought a new adaptor and the printer was detected immediately. So it definitely was this adaptor that failed.

1 out of 5 eggsworked for one month

Pros: Installed easily. Worked great for a month.

Cons: Just stopped working. Computer will not detect printer. I tried other usb ports, resetting printer, reinstalling printer, power-cycling, etc. I am convinced it's the cable as the computer simply won't detect the hardware device.

4 out of 5 eggsLink Depot USB to PRINT Cable Model USB-PRINT - OEM

Pros: Detected and supported by recent vintages of Windows, allows multiple parallel printers without using a switch box (just add a USB hub if you run out of USB ports).

Cons: While the cable is consistently detected as a "USB Printing Support" device, the attached printer is not always detected. My old DeskJet was detected fine (bidirectional support), but I got an "UnknownPrinter" device detected when I attached my LJIII clone, and just had to manually map the printer to the discovered printer port.

Other Thoughts: Looks like a CD was once included based on the CD-shaped bulge in the package, but you should not need drivers for anything after Windows 2000.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for me

Pros: Cheap, decent cable length.

Cons: Didn't work with my HP Laserjet 4 and Win XP

Other Thoughts: Tried tweaking the XP driver extensively, turned off bi-directional and print spooling, but it never worked properly. When printer did manage to print, it was mostly junk data or distorted graphics. I've used other similar products with better results.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Inexpensive. Shipped quick, 1 day! (The warehouse one state over made for some quick shipping)
Worked without having to install drivers on provided CD. Just went to Properties, then Ports and checked the USB box.
(I have a HP 5550)

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: IEEE 1284-B is what the port is labeled as (on the HP 5550, atleast).

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very inexpensive and works pretty well as described.

Cons: I was hoping for a cable that would show up as a standard parallel port for an older program that only works with a parallel port such as "LPT1", it wasn't clear in the description so I took a chance. No such luck, it only shows up as a printer not in any port listing.

Other Thoughts: For the price it's still a keeper.

1 out of 5 eggsNot the right connector it says it is

Pros: none!

Cons: this isn't quite what was advertised... even though the listed features says "Bi-directional parallel interface communication,
Fully compatible with all parallel printers", the connector is actually an older connection type used by antique printers, not the IEEE 1284 standard/DB-25 connector more commonly known as "Parallel" port connection everyone knew just before USB became dominant. So know you know, this is NOT a parallel to USB adapter.

Other Thoughts: waste of my time and money D=<
