4 out of 5 eggsThis is not intel type

Pros: Good bracket

Cons: See other

Other Thoughts: This is not for Intel boards! - I bought it for Intel board and had to switch wires before attaching new IDC-10 female connector.
It's good for Asus, Gigabyte and etc. - but Intel arranges their pins differently.

3 out of 5 eggsStarTech equivalent has lower shipping

Pros: pretty basic part, lightweight for low shipping cost. Clean solution for adding serial port to modern computer.

Cons: rather high shipping for light part, but agree with the other reviews that you are really paying for availability and handling. This has happened with other parts, the worst was for a unique wiring connector used on home skylight window install.

Other Thoughts: The main reason for this review is to point out that the StarTech PLATE9MHD 9 Pin Serial Male to 10 Pin IDC Motherboard Header Slot Plate Adapter looks like the same part with much lower shipping.

4 out of 5 eggsIs what it is

Pros: Added a 'nearly free' serial port to my $850 self-assembled computer. The MSI MB has a serial port, but no cable.

Cons: As others say, the shipping is high .. yet that is life. So buy 2 or 3 at once, cut the cost-per-unit.

Other Thoughts: Other reviewers complaining about split-shipments are ignorant of how modern internet business works. I placed a $150 order of three items ... all 3 came from different cities, so all three items had shipping charges applied yet they arrived in ONE frik'n day even with 3-day ground (I live in LA area).

Any effort to consolidate those 3 items into one box would have added from 2-4 days of delay, plus NewEgg would have needed to eat the inter-city charges to get all items into the same warehouse. AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Its a Serial PCI bracket, just like what its listed as. No problems.

Cons: The shipping charge is insane. Its 9 dollars for the product and about 9 dollars for shipping. Its best to order this with other items. Beware though, that if you "bundle" and order this with other items, you will get this separate. I ordered this with a new build, and got this first. Seriously Newegg, get with the program. If I wanted my parts shipped differently, I would have asked for it to be like that.

2 out of 5 eggsWatch out for shipping on this!

Pros: It a serail port. What else is there to say? Allows you to add one to your computer provided the motherboard has a serial port connector.

Cons: Cost was $9.99 which wasn't too bad considering it's hard to find. But then it didn't ship with the main order of other items. Was charged a seperate shipping charge of $6.22 making the total cost for this one bracket $16.21. Didn't even know it until after the order was placed then the breakdown on the seperate shipping cost was shown.

Other Thoughts: Gave it 2 stars because of the hidden additional shipping charge that was sneaked in after checkout was complete.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine

Pros: With some newer Motherboards saving space and cost, you my have a serial port option but no physical port and there is non that come with the motherboard. That is when this little piece comes in and it works just fine. While many people do not use serial connections these days I need to run many deferent peaces of gear to run test and need the serial port to handle legacy equipment.

Cons: Non

Other Thoughts: Follow the instruction for the motherboard you are using, if you are going to use it one a motherboard.

3 out of 5 eggsShort!

Pros: Well, it's good to know these exist. Need it for proprietary adjustment software for digital cameras at work. I'm very glad that serial is still being used.

Cons: Short by an inch. Boss isn't going to be happy - we won't tell him! ;)
I did find others available else where... Just difficult to search for because you don't know what to call it.

Other Thoughts: I would think that another 2 inches would be nice. Save your time and find a 12 or 16 inch. You'll need it.

3 out of 5 eggsSerial Bracket

Pros: Connects to a Mother Board that has a header availble.

Cons: Cable may be too short ! Check the length you need!!

Other Thoughts: Look around for a 16" Cable if you have a INTEL board.
These have Serial headers way up on top of the Memory slots.
Note The red cable stripe is #1 , red stripe goes opposite end as the Missing Peg.
The connector can be installed backwards:(
